The XXth International Congress on Sexual Plant Reproduction (SPR) was held from August 4 to 8, 2008, in Brasilia, Brazil. Shortly afterward, "Frontiers in Sexual Plant Reproduction Ⅲ" was held on October 17-19, 2008, in Tucson, Arizona. Both conferences demonstrated that the richly historic field of SPR remains dynamic and full of promise. There has been a significant acceleration in our under- standing of the molecular processes behind plant reproductive processes in recent years. The inves- tigations in this field are not only aided by modern molecular and cell biology technology but are also stimulated by current ideas from multiple viewpoints, especially evolutionary and epigenetic thought. Cross-talk among multiple disciplines has become a notable feature and has triggered rapid development in SPR research.  相似文献

This year is the 80th anniversary of the discovery of the first skull-cap of Homo erectus from Zhoukoudian (Peking Man). The first fossil of Peking Man was found in 1921 or 1923. Among the specimens unearthed at Zhoukoudian and transported to Sweden a premolar of hominid was identified in 1926. The announcement of this finding made Zhoukoudian well known in the world. A well preserved hominid molar was found in 1927 in situ based on which the new genus and species, Sinanthropus pekinensis was proposed. On December 2, 1929 a complete skull-cap was found.  相似文献

In 1961, the Global Network Isotopes in Precipitation (GNIP) was operated by the IAEA in collaboration with WMO, and over 500 stations across the globe participated in this program. The initial objective of this program was the systematic collection of isotope data in precipitation to provide the basic isotopic data for the use of basic environmental isotopes in the hydrology within the scope of hydrological and geochemical cycle and water resources management. During the implementation of the program the close relationship between precipitation isotopes and air temperature was found. This finding was subsequently used in the paleoclimate study, and air temperature change had been reconstructed from isotopes in the ice sheets. Meanwhile, precipitation isotopes were also used to verify and improve atmospheric circulation models.  相似文献
