Effect of mecloqualone on the oxygen and glucose uptake by brain tissue in vitro

Resumen La mecloqualona inhibe in vitro, la respiración de cortes y homogenizados de cerebro, incrementando el consumo de glucosa; este último efecto no se produce cuando al medio de incubación se añaden 100 mM de potasio.     

Effect of sulpiride on oxygen uptake by rat's brain tissue in vitro

Resumen El Sulpiride in vitro a la concentración de 1×10^–2 M disminuye el consumo de Oxígeno en cortes de cerebro de rata. El exceso de potasio o ausencia de calcio en el medio de incubación, no modifican este efecto. En homogeneizado de cerebro total, unicamente a la concentración de 1×10^–2 M deprime el consumo de oxígeno. A las concentraciones 1×10^–3 y 1×10^–4 M no modifica el consumo de oxígeno en cortes ni homogeneizados de cerebro.

Effect of Ketamine hydrochloride on oxygen and glucose uptake by brain tissue in vitro

Resumen El clorhidrato de Ketamina (1×10^–3 M y 1×10^–4 M) incrementa el consumo de oxigeno de cortes de cerebro de rata incubados en Krebs-Ringer fosfato conteniendo 5 mM ó 100 mM de potasio. La droga no modifica el consumo de oxigeno de homogeneizado de cerebro total.     

Content of the renin-like enzyme in pregnant and non-pregnant rabbit uterus

Résumé Chez les lapins gris et blancs de la Nouvelle-Zélande, la concentration d'une enzyme semblable à la rénine est 16 fois plus grande dans l'utérus gravide presque à terme que dans l'utérus non-gravide et 9.5 fois plus grande que dans l'utérus après néphrectomie bilatérale. En tenant compte du fort accroissement de l'utérus gravide, le contenu total de l'enzyme en question est 114 fois supérieur à celui de l'utérus non-gravide et 24 fois plus grand que celui du rein.

Asymmetric distribution of male and female foetuses in the pregnant rabbit uterus

Summary The sex distribution of foetuses in the uterine horn of the pregnant rabbit was found to be asymmetrical, with more males being present in the left uterine horn and more females in the right (p<0.05).     

The effect of the anticoagulant EDTA on oxygen uptake by bone-marrow cells

Résumé Comparée à celle des cellules en sérum, la réponse oxydative des cellules de moelle osseuse de rat dans une solution de tyrode est réduite. L'addition de disodium éthylénédiaminététracétatedihydrate (Na₂EDTA) à la solution de tyrode abaissa davantage la consommation d'O₂ des cellules de moelle osseuse. Cette réduction atteignit un niveau plus bas (p<0,05) à 15 min d'incubation et fut bien marquée (p<0,01) à 20, 25 et 30 min d'incubation.     

The effects of physostigmine on the oxygen uptake in rat brain tissue

Summary Physostigmine in a dose of 0.1 mg/kg i.v. expressly stimulated the oxygen uptake in the rat cerebral cortex. This effect was blocked by propranolol and seems be mediated by catecholamines. Since atropine also antagonized the stimulant effect of physostigmine, it appears that the action of physostigmine is primarily cholinergic and that the adrenergic effect is a secondary phenomenon. Summary The effect of several natural products ofStevia rebaudiana on glucose production and oxygen uptake in rat renal cortical tubules was investigated. Steviol, isosteviol and glucosilsteviol decreased glucose production and inhibited oxygen uptake. The sweet principle stevioside, and steviolbioside, however, were without effect on gluconeogenesis and oxygen uptake.

Effect of p-nitrophenylglycerol on motility of rat epididymal spermatozoa

Summary Using a convenient capillary tube assay, the antiswarming agent acting onProteus, p-nitrophenylglycerol (PNPG), was found to have produced an antimotility effect in sperms from rat cauda epididymides.Acknowledgment.
