In vitro studies on the biosynthesis of a glycoprotein associated with normal and tumoural growth in the rat

Résumé La biosynthèse d'une glycoprotéine, isolée à partir d'une tumeur induite au 2-amino-acetylfluorène, a été étudiée in vitro, par la culture de la moëlle osseuse du rat, du poumon et du foie embryonnaire. Cette étude a été faite à l'aide d'acides aminés radioactifs dans le milieu et, subséquemment, par radio-immunoélectrophorèse. Le dosage quantitatif de la biosynthèse in vitro, par les tissus, a été fait par la méthode électrophorétique d'agarose contenant un anticorps monospécifique préparé chez la chèvre, contre la glycoprotéine pure. La spécificité de la méthode a été éprouvée en utilisant, comme contróle, l'incubation des tissus morts et en ajoutant de la puromycine dans le milieu.

Glutamate decarboxylase activity in preoptic and hypothalamic nuclei of the rat

Summary Freeze-dried samples were used for the determination of glutamate decarboxylase activity in discrete preoptic and hypothalamic nuclei. The activity showed marked regional variation in distribution.     

Properties of leukocyte catalase from normal and acatalasemic humans

Zusammenfassung Beim Akatalasie-Fall A.B. ist die in den Leukozyten vorhandene Katalase-Restaktivität wesentlich höher (13%) als diejenige in den Erythrozyten (etwa 1% der Norm), wie dies beim Vorliegen einer instabilen Enzymvariante zu erwarten ist. Die Enzyme beider Zelltypen sind antigen-identisch und zeigen denselben Grad von Thermolabilität.     

Antigenic components of normal and burned mouse skin

Zusammenfassung In Extrakten normaler und verbrannter Haut von Mäusen wurde kein Unterschied zwischen den Antigenen gefunden. Kurze Zeit nach der Verbrennung wurden Antigene auch im Serum festgestellt.     

Factors which influence normal values for serum lactic dehydrogenase in mice

Résumé Nous avons étudié, chez la souris normale, l'effet du sexe, de l'âge et de la constitution génétique sur l'activité du sérum LDH. Le seul résultat positif constaté est un rapport entre l'âge et la race. Nous avons établi la portée normale de l'activité du LDH dans cinq races de souris. Son augmentation n'est pas provoquée par une infection due au virus polyome, mais peut être mise en relation avec la constitution génétique de l'animal.     

Sarcosine dehydrogenase activity in liver mitochondria of infant and adult rats

Zusammenfassung Die Aktivität der Sarcosinedehydrogenase in Lebermitochondrien 7tägiger Ratten ist um 50% kleiner als in adulten Tieren. Dieser Unterschied ist nicht durch das Elektrontransportflavoprotein limitiert und kann auch nicht durch eine Änderung in dem relativen Wert der löslichen Proteine in den Mitochondrien erklärt werden.     

Suppressed collagenolytic activity in polymorphonuclear leucocytes from diabetic humans

Summary Extracts of polymorphonuclear leucocytes (PMNL) from diabetic human exhibited less collagenolytic activity than extracts from normoglycemic control subjects. Partially purified control extracts produced ^A and ^B collagen breakdown products of the type generated by mammalian collagenase; the diabetic preparation produced decreased amounts of the same products. The diabetic PMNLs may synthesize abnormally low levels of collagenase or contain inactive forms of this enzyme.Supported by a grant (No. DE-03987) from the National Institute of Dental Research (N.I.H.), USA. Hormonal influences on erythrocyte catechol-O-methyl transferase activity in humans

Résumé Dans le cas de beaucoup de femmes prenant des contraceptifs oraux, l'activité du transférase catéchole-O-méthyle du globule rouge est réduite à des nivaux analogues à ceux observes dans le cas de femmes souffrant de dépression non-traitée. Le dépôt de contraceptifs à action durable n'affecte pas d'une manière significative l'enzyme, bien qu'elle soit réduite pendant le troisième trimestre de la grossesse.     

The activity of sorbitol dehydrogenase in some mammalian erythrocytes

Summary The activity of sorbitol dehydrogenase was found to be high in the red blood cells of man, dog, guinea-pig and mouse and comparatively lower in those of goat, sheep, rabbit, cat and rat.     

Variation in the lactase dehydrogenase activity of the esophagus

Summary Quantitative assay and electrophroetic study of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) from various tissues of the opossum esophagus were performed. On the basis of expression of the LDH isozymes, we concluded that the smooth muscle of the body of the esophagus carry on more anaerobic glycolysis than the striated muscle. The smooth muscle of the gastroesophageal junction carry on both anaerobic as well aerobic glycolysis.Acknowledgments. Glutamic acid dehydrogenase activity in muscles of dystrophic mice

Résumé L'activité de la déshydrogénase glutamique a été étudié dans le tissu musculaire de la souris atteinte de dystrophie musculaire héréditaire. La déhydrogénase glutamique est peu active dans le muscle dystrophique de la souris jeune, alors que l'activité de cet enzyme est fortement augmentée dans le muscle de la souris plus âgée (12–18 semaines). D'autre part, l'activité de l'enzyme est diminuée dans le muscle de la souris lorsque la maladie évolue.

Mast cells in the skin of normal,hairless and athymic mice

Summary The skin of congenitally athymicnu/nu mice is rich in mast cells which stain metachromatically, contain histamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine, and participate in the PCA reaction.
