Fine structures of the basophil infiltration in regional lymph nodes of the guinea-pig after the intradermal injection of T cell mitogens

Basophil-rich infiltrates in regional lymph nodes of guinea-pigs were demonstrated by electron microscopy after the intradermal injection of T cell mitogens (PHA and Con A). Basophils infiltrated the stroma of the lymph node via the postcapillary venules (PCV) and migrated to the paracortex. Prior to infiltration of the lymph nodes a cutaneous basophil hypersensitivity reaction was seen in the mitogen-injected skin. B cell mitogen (LPS) injection did not induce this response.     

Experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE)-changes in structure and proliferation in rat lymph nodes after sensitization with guinea-pig and bovine basic myelin protein

Summary Substantial difference in the proliferation of lymphoid cells in the draining LN was found in rats injected with guinea-pig EBP-FCA and bovine NBP-FCA indicating significance of the encephalitogenic determinant in the myelin basic protein in the peripheral lymphatic reaction initiating EAE.     

Decrease of mast cells in regional lymph nodes in response to allogeneic antigens and syngeneic tumor antigens

Summary The absolute number of mast cells in regional lymph nodes decreases on the 5th day after stimulation by allogeneic lymphocytes and semisyngeneic leukaemic cells, despite the enlargement of stimulated lymph nodes. It is postulated that the reaction of lymphatic mast cells could be a sensitive test for tissue incompatibility, and probably also for the presence of tumor associated antigens.     

Studies on the relationships between biotin and the behaviour of B and T lymphocytes in the guinea-pig

Summary In biotin-deficient guinea-pigs the number of circulating neutrophils is increased; lymphocytes carrying B and T markers are decreased. Incubation with biotin increases significantly the number of lymphocytes carrying B and T markers, from biotin-deficient guinea-pigs; no increase was observed when the lymphocytes from normal guinea-pigs were incubated.     

Progesterone receptors in the foetal uterus of guinea-pig: Its stimulation after oestradiol treatment

Summary This paper shows for the first time the presence of progesterone receptors in the foetal guinea-pig uterus, as well as the stimulation of progesterone receptors in foetal uterus in animals treated with oestradiol.     

Cytoplasmic control of cell division in amphibians: changes in the timing of egg cleavage after injection of heterospecific cytoplasm]

Cytoplasm of Xenopus laevis virgin eggs is injected into fertilized eggs of Pleurodeles waltlii, species characterized by an initial development slower than that of Xenopus. The cytoplasm introduced into eggs at the 2 or 4 cell stages accelerates the division of cells in the site of injection, Later on synchronism of cleavage for the different blastomers of operated eggs reappears. The effects of an heterologous cytoplasm on mitosis and endogenic rhythm of cleavage are discussed.

We compared a simple complement-dependent lymphocytotoxicity test with a widely used indirect immunofluorescence procedure to enumerate total T, T helper, and T suppressor lymphocytes in normal blood samples. Results with the two techniques were closely similar.

Irreversible shock in rats after injection of microspheres into the renal artery

Summary After injection of microspheres into both renal arteries of rats, an irreversible shock syndrome develops, resulting in death within 4–12 h. Ligation of both renal pedicles after injection of microspheres prevents the shock. It is presumed that kininogenases released from the kidneys participate in the pathogenesis of the shock syndrome.These studies were supported in part by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft within the SFB 90, Cardiovasculäres System.     

Effects of low doses of ochratoxin A after intratesticular injection in the rat

Summary The toxic effect of various doses of ochratoxin A on the rat testis was investigated after a single intratesticular injection. At time of sacrifice (day 10) degenerating changes occur in the testicular tissues: seminiferous tubules dilatation, cytolysis of the seminiferous epithelium, hyperplasia of the interstitial tissue, vascular thrombosis. The relations between the blood supply disturbances and the observed lesions are discussed.     

Cellular localization of androgen in the brain and pituitary after the injection of tritiated testosterone

Zusammenfassung Nach Injektion von³H-Testosteron wurde mit Hilfe der Trocken-Autoradiographie eine selektive Aufnahme und Speicherung von Radioaktivität in Kernen spezifischer Neurone im Hypothalamus, in der präoptisch-parolfaktorischen Region, im Septum, im Hippokampus und in der Amygdala beobachtet. Im Hypophysenvorderlappen war Radioaktivität in den Zellkernen von Basophilen nachweisbar. Die autoradiographischen Ergebnisse unterstützen das Konzept eines doppelten Androgen-Feedbacks auf der Ebene des Zentralnervensystems und der Hypophyse.
