Progesterone receptors in the foetal uterus of guinea-pig: Its stimulation after oestradiol treatment

Summary This paper shows for the first time the presence of progesterone receptors in the foetal guinea-pig uterus, as well as the stimulation of progesterone receptors in foetal uterus in animals treated with oestradiol.     

Stimulation of the incorporation of3H-leucine into proteins by oestradiol in the foetal uterus of the guinea-pig

Summary Oestradiol treatment increases the incorporation of³H-leucine into acid insoluble proteins in the foetal guineapig uterus (50–65 days of gestation) 10 times above control values by 8 h and 20 times by 24 h after administration of oestradiol to the mother.     

Purification of the cytosol oestradiol-receptor complex from foetal guinea-pig uterus using electrofocusing on polyacrylamide plates

The 3H-oestradiol receptor complex obtained from the cytosol fraction of foetal guinea-pig uterus was purified by the following steps: column chromatography in Sephadex G-15 and Ultrogel, and by electrofocusing on polyacrylamide plates. In the final step a concentration of 15-17% of the foetal uterine oestradiol receptor protein was obtained. The isoelectric point (pl) of this receptor was determined to be 6.1-6.2.

In the final step a concentration of 15–17% of the foetal uterine oestradiol receptor protein was obtained. Depression of the isolated guinea-pig uterus by reserpine

Zusammenfassung Reserpin verhindert sofort die elektrische Reizbarkeit des isolierten Meerschweinchenuterus. Eine Depression wurde von einigen Substanzen nur partiell bewirkt, wobei sich auffallende Wirkungsunterschiede zeigten.     

Effect of propranolol on various parameters of estrogen stimulation in the rat uterus

Summary Pretreatment with propranolol does not modify the estrogen-induced uterine eosinophilia, the water imbibition effect, nor the increase in uterine RNA and protein content. This confirms the independence of these parameters from the estrogen-induced early increase in uterine cAMP, since, when observed, the latter is suppressed by propranolol pretreatment.Acknowledgments. Follicles development in the foetal human ovary.

In the foetal human ovary, diameters of oocyte and follicle, as well as those of oocyte and nucleus, are found to be positively and linearly correlated with each other. Follicle diameter and number of granulosa cells also show a positive and linear relationship. Finally, in all ovaries examined, from 5 months after conception onwards, small antral follicles were assessed.     

Neutral proteases in the guinea-pig lymphocytes.

Partial purification of neutral proteolytic enzymes in guinea-pig lymphocytes yielded 2 enzymes. Both enzymes were heat-labile and inhibited by thiol reagents. The molecular weights were more than 200,000 and 150,000-200,000, and optimal pH around 9 and 8, respectively.     

Mitochondrial changes in the guinea-pig muscle after envenomation withVespa orientalis venom

Résumé Du venin deVespa orientalis, injecté dans la lèvre inférieure du cobaye, a donné une reaction inflammatoire non spécifique mais aiguë. Dans les mitochondries du muscle contigu strié de graves changement apparurent. Les cristae se sont agglutinées à mi-hauteur et les mitochondries agglutinées ont été disloquées et prirent l'aspect d'une matière granulaire amorphe. Après l'arrêt immediat de phosphorylation oxydative on constate que la lésion mitochondriale pourrait expliquer l'effet névrotoxique du rénin de la guêpe.     

Serum and bile modifications in the guinea-pig following chronic treatment with PGE1 and PGE2.

PGE1 increases cholesterolemia without lipemia modifications. In bile there are not modifications in cholesterol levels and total lipids appear diminished. PGE2 raise the lipemia and have no effect in cholesterolemia, moreover bile cholesterol and total lipids exhibit no changes. Both PGE1 and PGE2 decreased the bile volume.     

Glycogen contents in the rat uterus: response to Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn. extracts.

Ethanolic extracts (50%), as well the benzene extracts, of H. rosa-sinensis Linn. have reduced significantly the glycogen contents in the uterus of adult rat. Both the extracts exhibit a clear-cut dose-response relation. The inhibition in glycogen contents increases as the dose is increased. Of the 2, benzene extract seems to be more potent. The results are due to antiestrogenic nature of the extracts.

Intestinal vasoactive peptide receptors in enterocytes : specific binding and stimulation of cyclic AMP]

Receptors for the vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) were characterized on enterocytes isolated from Rat small intestine. Native VIP inhibited competitively the binding of 125I-VIP to enterocytes and strongly stimulated cyclic AMP production; both these effects were observed for concentrations of VIP as low as 0.5-1.0 ng/ml (0.15-0.30 nM) which are compatible with the VIP concentration in the gut.
