Supernumerary (B) chromosome inAnopheles indefinitus (Diptera,Culicidae)

Summary Larval brain mitotic karyotype ofAn. indefinitus from Kanchanaburi exhibits a supernumerary (B) chromosome which is apparently common in that population. 1 or 2 B-chromosomes have been observed in the samples from 5 isofemale lines examined.Acknowledgments. Die Struktur der Cadmiumhydroxyhalogenide CdCl0,67(OH)1,33, CdBr0,6(OH)1,4, CdJ0,5(OH)1,5

Summary The crystal structure of CdCl_0,67(OH)_1,33, CdBr_0,6(OH)_1,4 and CdJ_0,5(OH)_1,5 is determined, the first crystalizes in the C-19-, the latter in the C-6-type. The dimensions of the lattice of the named compounds and of CdCl_0,67(OH)_1,33 are tabulated together with those of Cd(OH)₂ and of the halogenides. It follows that when in Cd(OH)₂ OH-ions are substituted by halogen-ions, the distancea of the Cd-ions in the layers are changed very little, while the distance of the layersc is increased according to the size of the halogen-ion.     

A peculiar fatty acid, (Z,Z)-9,12,17-octadecatrienoic acid,identified in the phospholipids of the pea aphid,Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) (homoptera: aphididae)

A peculiar fatty acid previously detected in the phospholipids of the pea aphid,Acyrthosiphon pisum, is identified as (Z,Z)-9,12,17-octadecatrienoic acid. It is the first report of this compound in the literature. Comparison of fatty acid profiles of phospholipids between normal and aposymbiotic pea aphids shows that aphid symbionts are not responsible for the biosynthesis of this unusual fatty acid.

Summary The proof of the problem which was studied in a former work, was now brought to an end: that among all convex rotatory bodies of the constant lengthsl the cones possess the smallest surfaces ifM is given.     

Analyse des Paarungsrufes vonPelodytes punctatus (Daudin 1803) (Amphibia,Pelobatidae)

Summary The mating call of Pelodytes punctatus was analyzed by oscillograms and sonagrams. Above water surface, 2 types of call differing in several parameters are uttered in alternation. There is also a release call. The mating call, not uttered in series and consisting simply of uniform, short, noise-like sound pulses, seems rather undifferentiated compared with the Pelobatinae, a view supported by the more primitive habits ofPelodytes.     

Fine structure of sensilla during moulting inNeomysis integer (Leach) (Crustacea,Mysidacea)

Summary During the moulting cycle the sensory cells and the newly formed hair shaft remain connected to the old cuticular receptive apparatus of the sensillum by the elongated outer segments of the dendrites, which run through the exuvial space. A surface coat covering the outer dendritic segments protects them against the chemical influences of the exuvial fluid. The findings suggest that the receptors remain functional until ecdysis. This moulting type is considered to be a transitional form between the moulting types so far known.     

Occurrence in mushrooms (Homobasidiomycetes) of cis- and trans-octa-1,5-dien-3-ol,attractants to the cheese miteTyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank) (Acarina,Acaridae)

Summary Cis- and trans-octa-1,5-dien-3-ol were identified in 15 Homobasidiomycetes; these compounds exhibited a significant attraction for the cheese miteTyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank) (Acarina, Acaridae).     

Host-plant oligosaccharins in the honeydew ofSchizaphis graminum (Rondani) (Insecta,Aphididae)

Summary The honeydew of the aphidSchizaphis graminum (Rondani) contains hetero-oligosaccharides (mol. wt>2200 D) having neutral sugar and uronic acid compositions similar to the pectic substances of the host plant,Sorghum biocolor (L.) Moench. These oligosaccharides are pectic fragments which result from the depolymerization of pectic substances in the phloem by aphid salivary polysaccharases.     

Somatic chromosomes of Indian burrowing toad,Uperodon globulosum (Gunther) (Anura; Amphibia)

Summary Somatic chromosome complements of the Indian burrowing toad,Uperodon globulosum, have been described for the first time. The 2n number is 26 (NF=52) in both the sexes. No heteromorphism in relation to sex chromosome pair has been recorded. Deviations from 2n number (2n=10–28) have been noticed in the cells of different specimens.
