On the radio-sensitivity of rat liver

Résumé Les lobes antérieurs du foie de rats ont été prélevés et exposés aux rayons-X jusqu'à des doses de 91 kR et en employant comme indicateur biochimique de survivance l'incorporation de³H-leucine. Une dose de 45 kR fit diminuer l'incorporation au cours des 3 premiers jours suivant l'exposition; ce type de blessure de radiation nécessite donc plusieurs jours pour se manifester. Ces rêsultats montrent qu'au commencement de l'interphase l'hépatocyte est extrêmement résistant à la mort par radiation.     

Nuclear pores in the spermatozoon of the rat

Summary The paper describes a hexagonal array of nuclear pores in a non-redundant region of the nuclear envelope underlying the basal surface of the rat spermatozoon head. It is concluded that intranuclear material protruding through these pores is the cause of the characteristic rows of circular bumps found in surface replicas of this region.     

Mast-cell heterogeneity in the rat

Summary In the rat, O-hydroxy ethyl rutoside derivatives release histamine and serotonin from skin mast-cells, but not from peritoneal mast-cells. These cellular populations do not exhibit identical pharmacological properties.     

Clofibrate-induced myotonia in the rat

Summary Clofibrate induced electromyographic and contractile responses in rats consistent with myotonia.This work was supported in part by the Muscular Dystrophy Associations of America. The authors are grateful to Ayerst Laboratories for the generous supply of clofibrate used in this study.     

Hypoxic tachycardia in the rat

Summary Awake, freely breathing rats subjected to moderate hypoxia (10% O₂) manifest prompt tachycardia which is essentially unaffected by atropine and is blocked by propranolol, and is thus apparently mainly of sympathetic origin.This work was supported by grants from American Heart Association — Greater Los Angeles Affiliate (437IG), and National Science Foundation (GB-41390). The effect of pretreatment with rat placental homogenate on subsequent pregnancy in the rat

Résumé L'effet d'un traitement immunologique sur la grossesse du rat a été étudié. Les animaux du groupe expérimental ont reçu 8 injections d'homogénat placentaire à raison de deux par mois, puis ont été accouplés. Après 21 jours de grossesse il y avait moins de fétus nés vivants que dans le groupe témoins non-traité; le poids des fétus en vie était en général normal mais on a noté une augmentation significative de la masse placentaire par rapport au groupe témoin.     

Cholecystokinin-induced hypothermia in the rat

Summary Cholecystokinin-octapeptide (CCK-8) was shown to cause hypothermia after intracerebroventricular administration in the rat, and the hypothermic effect of CCK-8 was antagonized by simultaneous injection of TRH.     

Effect of acriflavin on the mitochondria of the rat

Resumen La administración de acriflavina provoca la aparición de un elevado número de mitocondrias con filamentos de ADN en el hígado, riñón y miocardio de la rata. Sobre la base de este hecho se sugiere que la acriflavina inhibe la reproducción del ADN mitocondrial, haciéndolo visible a nivel ultraestructural.     

Utilization of exogenous adenine by the rat

Zusammenfassung Der Einbau von oral an Ratten verabreichtem Adenin-8-C¹³ in den Purinanteil der Nukleinsäuren wurde mit den in der Literatur für die Aufnahme von Adenin-1, 3-N¹⁵ beschriebenen Werten verglichen. Die wesentlich geringere Aufnahme von Adenin-8-C¹³ lässt darauf schliessen, dass der Einbau von exogenen Purinen unter Ringöffnung erfolgt.     

The glutathione status of the rat liver

Summary For the determination of cellular total glutathione, a new method is presented based on a fluorometric procedure. The relation between reduced glutathione, mixed glutathione disulfides and disulfide glutathione will be designated the glutathione status.Supported by DFG (Ha 743/3).     

Morphology of muscle spindles in the rat

Zusammenfassung Die Morphologie und Innervation der Muskelspindeln der Lumbricalmuskulatur im Hinterfuss der Ratte wird beschrieben. Eine typische Muskelspindel enthält zwei «nuclear bag» Fasern und zwei «nuclear chain» Fasern. Jede Spindel enhält 2 motorische Nerven, einer innerviert die «nuclear bag» Fasern, der andere die «nuclear chain» Fasern. 50% der Spindeln haben nur primäre sensorische Innervationen, die übrigen 50% haben eine primäre sensorische Endung und 1 oder 2 sekundäre Endungen.
