Under the great background of globalization today,communications between China and America are more frequent,it becomes significant for us to gain a deeper understanding of American presidents＇ speech.Obama serves as an example for us to study in this aspect.Until now,most people have been studying his speech mainly through either Chinese translations of his speeches or interpretations by the media,conducted through perspectives which are by no means rhetorically informed.Considering the fact that what we are dealing with is political speech,it is high time that the rhetorical perspective be introduced into the process of interpreting Obama＇s political communication in its original context.Such a perspective will help us obtain a better approach of interpreting his speech.This thesis has widely selected the typical political speeches of president Obama in his Election Campaign process,and analyzed three main rhetorical methods in political speech： simile,metaphor and metonymy.Figure of speech is an expression that departs from the accepted literal sense or from the normal order of words,or in which an emphasis is produced by patterns of sound.It is an especially important resource of poetry;it is also constantly present in all other kinds of speech and writing.The figure of speech is commonly used in political speech.In this part of the thesis the author will analyze three main types of figures in Obama＇s speech： Simile,metonymy and Metaphor.     

The Study of Public Signs Mistranslation and Coping Strategies

With the rapid development of China’s economy and the deepening of globalization,more and more foreigners head to China for study,work and travel.Therefore,the quality of the translation of public signs is of great importance.Proper translation of public signs does not only hint and help foreign friends,but embodies the degree of openness,internationalization and overall quality of a city as well.Based on Christiane Nord’s classification of translation errors,this paper will analyze the mistranslation in public signs and put forward the corresponding strategies.

A Brief Analysis of English Public Political Speaking from the Perspective of Structure and Strategies of Discourse

Discourse analysis is the study of how stretches of language considered in their full textual,the aim of discourse analysis is to explain how people construct and comprehend various coherent discourses. English public speaking occurs when one person speaks in English to an different types. Consequently,English public political speaking,the subject of this thesis,is one sub-component in terms of classification of content. This thesis intends to use the methods of discourse analysis to deal with English public political speaking. The analysis reveals that effective public speaker should employ consistent structure and strategies with the subject,content,purpose and situation of speech. This study is of a certain value in instructing how to be a good English public speaker and how to be an effective communicator in English.

Implementing and Popularizing Health Clinics and Educational Programs in NJ School Areas for Supporting NJ Pregnant Teenagers

This proposal focuses on the prevalence of teenage pregnancy issue in NJ and illustrates the benefits of school-based health clinics and educational programs which should be implemented for teenage pregnancy and childbearing.Without the early intervention of educational programs and preventive medical services which should be implemented in school areas,teen pregnancy and childbearing can have physical and emotional health influences on teen mothers,their babies and other family members,and the worst consequence should be abortion.What’s more,teenage pregnancy and childbearing have substantial economic consequence for state.The annual estimated cost associated with teen childbearing （teens 19 and younger） in NJ to taxpayers is at least $167 million in 2004 （24% federal costs and 76% state and local costs）.Studies demonstrated that a much larger amount of money is spent on the consequences of teenage pregnancy than on prevention.NJ has an opportunity to invest in prevention and reduce not only the monetary but also the societal costs to our youth burdened by the often overwhelming responsibilities of teenage pregnancy and parenting.According to the 15 years follow-up research and data analyzing,two models of success which specifically implemented in South Carolina high schools and Chicago public schools have been proved to effectively reduce incidence of repeat pregnancy and emergency room visits,reduce incidence of teen mothers smoking during pregnancy,improve emotional outcomes among teen mothers,decrease incidence of teen mothers drug impairment,arrest,conviction,or jail time and reduce use of food stamps and other public assistances,which can consequently increase the state public health costs.In order to support teen mothers’ academic,physical,emotional and social needs in a stable and consistent school environment,the plan which titled ＂Physical and Mental Health Promotion for NJ Teen Mothers＂ is effective and practical enough to arouse the attention of some relevant departments.It’s worth patron to fund the plan because supporting teenage pregnancy at early stage can subsequently benefit the national and state economy and teen mothers.

In the scientific study of the faculty of language,M.Hauser,N.Chomsky & T.Fitch have proposed the recursion-only hypothesis in the context of biological evolution,while R.Jackendoff & S.Pinker have put forward a strong refutation---the language-as-adaptation hypothesis.This paper briefly introduces HCF hypothesis,meanwhile examines PJ’s critical comment,and finally attempts to comment on both hypothesis with a balanced view.

Maintenance of cooperation in a public goods game: A new decision-making criterion with incomplete information

Hardin’s "The Tragedy of the Commons" prophesies the inescapable collapse of many human enterprises.The emergence and abundance of cooperation in animal and human societies is a challenging puzzle to evolutionary theory.In this work,we introduce a new decision-making criterion into a voluntary public goods game with incomplete information and choose successful strategies according to previous payoffs for a certain strategy as well as the risk-averse benefit.We find that the interest rate of the common pool and the magnitude of memory have crucial effects on the average welfare of the population.The appropriate sense of individuals’ innovation also substantially influences the equilibrium strategies distribution in the long run.     

A Study on Animal Words from Illocutionary Perspectives

The paper lies in the exploration of animal words both in English and in Chinese from illocutionary perspectives. The essay starts with a review of related studies on animal words and gives a brief introduction of the speech act theory. Then it analyses some differences between English and Chinese animal words because of the different cultural backgrounds. The essay shows that animal metaphors embody illocutionary forces. When indirect speech act is applied to reflect communication intention, metaphorical sentences with animal words bring up stronger illocutionary forces. The essay attempts to carry out a further study on animal words.

Empirical Research on User Acceptance of Mobile Searches

The mobile search, a combination of a web search engine and a mobile communication system, is viewed as the most influential application in the 3G era. Therefore, mobile search service providers are eager to know which factors most influence user acceptance of mobile searches. Based on the characteristics of mobile searches and a review of previous information technology acceptance research, this study integrates the task technology fit model and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model to develop a mobile search acceptance model and empirically tests this model. This study finds that, for mobile searches, the performance expectancy, social influence, and perceived cost all significantly influence use intention and the performance expectancy increases with the increasing user’s experience and higher task technology fit degree. The effort expectancy is found to not affect the use intention of mobile searches and the users’ gender does not have a significant moderating effect on the use intention. The results are then used to develop suggestions for mobile search providers to promote their application and development.     

Structure and collaboration relationship analysis in a scientific collaboration network

We construct a weighted network of scientific collaboration in computational geometry and study the statistical properties of the network. In addition, we introduce a parameter called the collaboration relationship parameter to measure the collaboration between scientists. The collaboration relationship parameter of two scientists depends not only on the connection weights between the nodes, but also on the network’s structure. The stability of the network’s structure in terms of different edge removal strategies is also studied. According to the parameter, we find that a community structure exists in this type of network.

Cemented paste backfill (CPB), a mixture of tailings, binder, and water, is widely and extensively used for the recovery of mineral resources, the prevention of ground subsidence, and the management of mine waste. When installed, the CPB is subjected to complex environmental conditions such as water content, temperature, and power, which have a significant impact on its efficiency. Thus, this study conducts a series of laboratory programs, including investigation of moisture, temperature, stress–strain relation, and microstructure to show the effect of curing humidity on the CPB behaviors. The results obtained indicate that ambient humidity can have a dramatic effect on CPB in terms of its macro performance of internal relative humidity, temperature and strength, as well as the micro expression. Typical examples of these effects on CPB include an increase in curing humidity, which favors binder hydration, and then an increase in hydration materials, temperature and peak stress in the CPB. The results obtained will lead to a better understanding of CPB’s responses to various environmental conditions.     

Effect of updating training on fluid intelligence in children

Recent studies have indicated that working memory (WM) training can improve fluid intelligence.However,these earlier studies confused the impact of WM storage and central executive function on the effects of training.The current study used the running memory task to train the updating ability of 9-11 year-old children using a double-blind controlled design.The results revealed that children’s fluid intelligence was significantly improved by memory-updating training.Overall,our findings suggest that the increase in fluid intelligence achieved with WM training is related to improving central executive function.
