Scale‐worms (Polychaeta,Polynoidae) associated with chaetopterid worms (Polychaeta,Chaetopteridae), with description of a new genus and species

Three species of scale‐worms inhabiting chaetopterid tubes have been found during routine studies of benthic communities. Anotochaetonoe michelbhaudi gen. and sp. nov. occurred in the East Atlantic off Congo in association with Spiochaetopterus sp. and Phyllochaetopterus sp. It has a relatively short body (fewer than 50 segments); elytra in posterior part of the body arranged on chaetigers 23, 26, 29, 32, 34, 37, 40, 43, 46, present to posterior end; achaetous notopodia; neuropodia long, with longer subtriangular prechaetal lobes and shorter postchaetal lobes rounded distally; upper neurochaetae unidentate and lower bidentate; globular ciliated papillae present between ventral cirri and ventral basis of neuropodia. Lepidasthenia brunnea occurred in the Mediterranean Sea off the French coast both free‐living and in association with Phyllochaetopterus sp. Ophthalmonoe pettiboneae was found in Vietnam (South China Sea) in association with Chaetopterus sp. This is the second finding of the species. The characteristics of the associations between chaetopterid genera and symbiotic polychaetes are discussed.     

Studies on Indian ichneumonidae,description of a new species with a key to the Indo-Australian species of Dicamptus Szépligeti

Summary

One new species Dicamptus indicus is described. Key to 12 Indo-Australian species of Dicamptus Szépligeti is also included.     

Phylogenetic relationships within Amphiglena Claparède, 1864 (Polychaeta: Sabellidae), description of five new species from Australia,a new species from Japan,and comments on previously described species

In reviewing material in Australian museum collections from the Australian and Japanese coasts it became clear that many specimens of Amphiglena did not match the diagnosis of any current species. To allow for variability observed among the specimens, and hence within nominal species, three specimens from each locality were included in a cladistic analysis, along with all currently accepted Amphiglena species, new characters, and a variety of apomorphic sabellins. This allowed a reassessment of the monophyly of Amphiglena, its sister group, and relationships with close taxa. Phylogenetic relationships among the species of Amphiglena are presented and six new species are described.     

Five new species of Homalotylus Mayr (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) − from India with a key to Indian species

Five new species of Homalotylus Mayr (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) – H. noyesi sp. nov., H. biharensis sp. nov., H. varicolorus sp. nov. (from Bihar province), H. montanus sp. nov. (from Tamil Nadu province) and H. insularis sp. nov. (from Andaman and Nicobar Island) – are described from India. A revised key to the Indian species of Homalotylus is provided.

A biosystematic study of Aspidiotus nerii Bouché (Homoptera: Diaspididae), with the description of one new species

Summary

Uniparental (UP) and biparental (BP) populations of the oleander or ivy scale, Aspidiotus nerii Bouchè, were reared under similar conditions. Development of the UP population was always slower than that of the BP scales. UP females usually produced less than half the number of progeny the BP females had, and the patterns of development and oviposition were quite dissimilar.

The shield of UP females was slightly, but consistently, darker than that of BP females, and the latter never colonized Pittosporum undulation, the only host-plant on which UP population occur in Israel. These criteria are used to describe the uniparental population as Aspidiotus paranerii Gerson sp. nov. and to differentiate it from A. nerii. As the biology of A. paranerii clearly differs from that of a Californian uniparental sibling species of A. nerii, it is argued that the latter may have a series of such parthenogenetic relatives.
