Importance de la lysine et du tryptophane dans la nutrition deTenebrio molitor L.

Summary Experiments were undertaken in order to ascertain whether an insect,Tenebrio molitor, requires lysine and tryptophane for growing. Young larvæ were fed, from the day of hatching, on a diet containing a purified protein as sole source for amino acids and all the other nutrients required by this species.It was found that lysine and tryptophane are both essential for the growing ofTenebrio. The various protteins tested can be listed from point of view of their nutritive value according to their content of both amino acids. Further evidence for this relationship is presented by the fact that zein, a protein deficient in both lysine and tryptophane, is incapable to sustain growth unless it is supplemented with both amino acids. On the other hand, gliadin which is devoid of lysine but contains small amounts of tryptophane can be improved when lysine only is added.     

The interference of tryptophane in the estimation of fructose by the resorcinol method

Résumé Nous avons essayé de chercher la nature des substances réduisantes dans la semence humaine. Ces substances interviennent dans l'estimation quantitative du fructose d'après la méthode deRoe, utilisant le resorcinol. L'existence du tryptophane dans la semence humaine est déjà démontrée. En présence du tryptophane, la quantité du fructose obtenue est plus élevée que la quantité du fructose obtenue en absence du tryptophane.Il semble, selon nos résultats, que l'estimation quantitative du fructose selon la méthode deRoe dépend de la quantité de tryptophane présente dans la semence humaine.

Summary Acid hydrolysis of trypsin and chymotrypsin inhibited by DIP yields seryl-phosphate within a sequence representing one part of the active center. Now it is demonstrated by UV-spectrophotometry that DIP is bound primarily to tryptophane and remains there after peptic degradation. A tetrapeptide containing both tryptophane and phosphate was isolated and analyzed.     

Loss of tryptophan pyrrolase cofactor from liver cytoplasmic structures of 3′-methyl-4-dimethylaminoazobenzene fed rats

Résumé L'ingestion du cancérogène 3-méthyl-4-diméthylaminoazobenzène pendant 40 jours inhibe fortement l'induction de la tryptophane pyrrolase du foie des rats causée par leL-tryptophane ou bien l'hydrocortisone. Les auteurs montrent que cet effet est dû à la perte du cofacteur de la tryptophane pyrrolase des mitochondries et des microsomes des animaux soumis au régime alimentaire cancérogène.     

The amino acid composition of human and bovine lactotransferrins

Résumé La composition en acides aminés des lactotransferrines humaine et bovine a été déterminée. La distribution des acides aminés dans les protéines étudiées est très semblable, sauf en ce qui concerne le tryptophane, la méthionine, l'arginine, l'acide aspartique, la glycine et l'isoleucine.

Cold exposure: Effects on hepatic tryptophan oxygenase and tyrosine aminotransferase,plasma tryptophan and tyrosine,and brain monoamines

Résumé L'exposition des souris à une basse temp'erature a abouti à la production rapide de tryptophane oxygénase et de tyrosine aminotransférase. Malgré l'augmentation de l'activité enzymatique, les niveaux plasmatiques de tryptophane et de tyrosine furent augmentés d'une manière significative pendant le temps de l'exposition. Les niveaux de norepinéphrine et de sérotonine du cerveau n'en ont cependant pas été affectés.

Summary The amphidiploid hybrid ofNicotiana glauca ×N. langsdorffi, producing tumors spontaneously, contains essentially more of the following free amino acids than the inital species: cystine, histamine, oxyproline, alanine, kynurenine, tryptophane, and a non-identified ninhydrine positive substance. It is supposed that the abnormally high content of free amino acids is connected with the spontaneous formation of tumors.

Résumé On décrit un milieu de composition chimique définie, se prêtant à l'analyse qualitative des acides aminés nécessaires au développement des larves deTrogoderma. A cet effet, dix acides aminés sont indispensables: l'arginine, l'histidine, l'isoleucine, la leucine, la lysine, la méthionine, la phénylalanine, la thréonine, la tryptophane et la valine. Le lard et l'acide nucléique sont également nécessaires à l'alimentation de ces larves.
