The antimicrobial activity of some insect extracts possessing juvenile hormone activity

Zusammenfassung Extraktstoffe vonH. cecropia, S. cynthia undR. orizaba zeigten antibakterielle Wirkung gegenüber mehreren Mikroorganismen. Ein schwächerer Effekt wurde auch mit den Extraktstoffen vonGalleria mellonella, adulten Männchen vonCynthia- und vonCecropia-Puppen beobachtet. Die antimikrobielle Aktivität wurde mit dem Fettsäureanteil der Extraktstoffe in Beziehung gesetzt und von der Wirkung des Juvenilhormons abgegrenzt.

Kinetics of penicillinase activity

Zusammenfassung Die Kinetik der Penicillinhydrolyse durch Penicillinase ausB. subtilis ist mittels einer titrimetrischen Methode verfolgt und in Übereinstimmung mit der Gleichung vonMichaelis undMenten befunden worden. Die pH-Abhängigkeit wird diskutiert.     

Haemagglutinating activity of modeccin

Summary Modeccin, the toxin ofAdenia digitata, agglutinates erythrocytes from several mammalian species. The haemagglutinating activity is enhanced by neuraminidase and is inhibited by galactose and by galactose-containing sugars.Acknowledgment. Opsonic activity of properdin

Riassunto L'aggiunta di zimosano al siero normale di cavia ne diminuisce notevolmente il potere opsonico; l'aggiunta di properdina al siero inattivato con zimosano o col calore restaura interamente questo potere. La properdina usata da sola senza siero, non ha potere opsonico. Sembra molto probabile che la frazione termolabile delle opsonine sia da identificare con la properdina.     

Anti-tumour activity of carbobenzoxy-l-asparagine

Résumé L'administration i.p. de la carbobenzoxy-l-asparagine a retardé la croissance des greffes s.c. d'un lymphosarcome de souris, sensitif à l'action de l'l-asparaginase. L'apparition des tumeurs a été retardée, la période de survie a été prolongée et le poids des tumeurs réduit d'une faÇon significative chez les animaux traités. Le mécanisme de l'inhibition des tumeurs cst considéré.     

Kinin-releasing activity of pronase

Zusammenfassung Die Kinin freisetzende Eigenschaft von Pronase, einem Proteasen-Gemisch vonStreptomyces griseus, ist auf ein Trypsin ähnliches Enzym zurückzuführen.     

Antiecdysteroid activity of brassinosteroids

Summary We report the discovery of the first antiecdysteroids which belong to a comparatively new class of plant growth regulators, the brassinosteroids. These compounds bind competitively to ecdysteroid receptors partially purified from larvae of the blowflyCalliphora vicina and inhibit biological responses to 20-hydroxyecdysone, the active form of the molting hormone.     

Antitumor activity of the isodon diterpenoids: Structural requirements for the activity

Summary A significant antitumor activity of oridonin (1) and lasiokaurin (2), the kaurene-type diterpenoids ofIsodon species, was shown by their i.p. injection to the test mice inoculated by Ehrlich ascites carcinoma. Enmein (8), compounds9 and3 were also active under larger dose. Subsequently, the relationship between their chemical structure and antitumor activity was investigated, and the activity of oridonin (1) and lasiokaurin (2) was rationalized in terms of their structural feature.     

Biological activity of phenolic lipids

Phenolic lipids are a very diversified group of compounds derived from mono and dihydroxyphenols, i.e., phenol, catechol, resorcinol, and hydroquinone. Due to their strong amphiphilic character, these compounds can incorporate into erythrocytes and liposomal membranes. In this review, the antioxidant, antigenotoxic, and cytostatic activities of resorcinolic and other phenolic lipids are described. The ability of these compounds to inhibit bacterial, fungal, protozoan and parasite growth seems to depend on their interaction with proteins and/or on their membrane-disturbing properties.     

Aminotransferase activity of thermal polylysine

Zusammenfassung Thermisch hergestelltes Polylysin beschleunigt die Übertragung von Aminogruppen des Harnstoffs auf -Ketoglutarsäure. Das pH-Optimum dieser Reaktion, die die Anwesenheit von Cu-Ionen erfordert, liegt bei 7.00. Die Transaminierungsreaktion folgt derMichaelis-Menten-Kinetik. Thermisch hergestelltes Polylysin wird durch Erhitzen in Pufferlösungen nicht inaktiviert, während Depolymerisation oder Modifizierungen der Aminogruppen den Verlust der Aktivität zur Folge haben.
