Development of isolated neocortex

Résumé La migration des neuroblastes et la croissance des aires dendritiques de base des neurones pyramidaux font ici l'objet d'une étude portant sur les régions IV et Vb du néocortex cérébral isolé de rats de souche Wistar. La migration des neuroblastes s'éffectuait normalement et aboutissait au dispositif habituel ordonné en 6 régions. Aucun changement qualitatif ne fut observé dans la méthode de croissance dendritique des cortex cérébraux isolés, mais la densité des aires dendritiques était diminuée dans chaque cas, bien que les effets sur les neurones de la région Vb fussent rendus complexes par l'effet de Gudden.

Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, dass für die Messung der Gewichtsänderung der isolierten, durchströmten Hundemilz, die Registrierung mittels eines «Displacement transducer» eine präzise volumometrische Auswertung erlaubt.

Photosynthesis by isolated chloroplasts ofSorghum vulgare

Summary The ambiguous location of photosynthetic carboxylases of mesophyll and bundle sheath chloroplasts of sorghum was investigated after successful homogeneous preparation. The phosphoenol pyruvate carboxylase was found as a particulate enzyme in the mesophyll cell chloroplasts and ribulose 1,5-biphosphate carboxylase in the stroma of the bundle sheath cell chloroplasts. Extensive characterization was carried out on these 2 enzymes for better understanding of the enzyme action.     

Choline accumulation in isolated rat hepatocytes

Summary The accumulation of non-metabolized choline in isolated rat hepatocytes is concentrative in Na⁺ medium, whereas the accumulation does not exceed unity in a Li⁺ medium. Ouabain and 2,4-dinitrophenol inhibited the choline uptake. These results indicate that choline is taken up by rat hepatocytes via a Na⁺-and energy-dependent process, and choline oxidase is not directly connected with the choline transport system.     

Microinterferometric characterization of isolated human hepatocytes

Summary Hepatocytes isolated from liver tissue taken by biopsy from 18 patients with hepatic or extrahepatic diseases displayed a weight class-organization similar to that of other animal species. In most cases the cell classes had a period of 108 pg varying in number from 4 to 14; cell weight range was 96–432 pg as a minimum (4 classes) and 108–1536 pg as a maximum (14 classes). In 5 cases cell classes showed a period of 120 pg resulting 7–9 in number; cell weight range was 216–960 pg (7 classes) or 216–1200 pg (9 classes). No correlation was found between sex, age, liver histopathology, disease of the patients and the various parameters measured.This work was supported in part by a grant of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Rome, Italy.     

Micro-diver studies on isolated intestinal cells

Zusammenfassung Der Sauerstoffverbrauch in isolierten Epithelzellen aus dem Dünndarm von Ratten wurde mit dem Kartesischen Taucher untersucht. Die Zellen aus den Villusbasen zeigten einen höheren Sauerstoffverbrauch als Zellen von den Villusspitzen.

Regeneration in isolated tails ofXenopus larvae

Zusammenfassung Isolierte Schwänze vonXenopus-larven lassen sich in Holtfreterlösung + 0.05% Sulfothiazol mindestens einen Monat am Leben erhalten. Sie bilden trotz Abwesenheit des Blutkreislaufes ein kleines, heteropolares Regenerat, in welchem Chorda und Neuralrohr, nicht aber die Muskulatur, typische Differenzierungsleistungen zeigen.

Preparation of isolated macroconidia ofNeurospora crassa

Résumé Une méthode simple d'obtention de conidies libres et isolées deNeurospora crassa est décrite ici. Après une culture de 4 jours du champignon sur milieu minimal solide additionné de glycine, les conidies sont récoltées; elles sont suspendues dans de l'eau stérile contenant un détergent non-ionique, puis filtrées et soumises ensuite à des centrifugations à basse vitesse dans une solution saccharosée. Les surnageants donnent alors une suspension à fort pourcentage de conidies libres et isolées.     

Action of toxins isolated from scorpion and sea anemone venoms on ileum isolated from reserpine-treated guinea pigs]

We have shown that the ileum isolated from a reserpinized guinea Pig does respond to toxin II obtained from Scorpion venom but does not react to Anemonia sulcata toxin. We conclude that if Acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter inducing pharmacological activity of Scorpion toxin it is serotonin which triggers activity of Anemonia sulcata toxin in ileum of a normal guinea Pig.     

Fluid secretion by isolated cockroach salivary glands

Summary An isolated preparation of the innervated cockroach salivary gland has been developed to study secretion. This gland secretes a fluid rich in Na and Cl in response to nerve stimulation or bath application of dopamine.Acknowledgments. Preparation of isolated cells from rat heart

Summary Suspensions of isolated cells from rat heart were prepared and the data for viability and yield are given. Glucose uptake by the cells was mediated by a carrier system.The technical assistance of Mr.E. T. Potter, Mr.K. D. Patel and Mr.M. Griffin is gratefully acknowledged.     

Cholesterol synthesis in freshly isolated human leukocytes

Summary Cholesterol synthesis has been studied in human leukocytes shortly after the isolation from healthy subjects. Not delipidated human serum reduced the cholesterol synthesis when added to the incubation medium. A similar effect was obtained when the leukocytes were incubated in the presence of physiological concentrations of low density lipoproteins.     

Action of eledoisin on isolated vascular strips

Résumé Des bandelettes aortiques du lapin sont fortement stimulées par l'élédoisine. Après prétraitement du lapin à la réserpine, l'aorte devient deux fois plus sensible à l'élédoisine que normalement. Cette sensibilisation envers l'élédoisine diminue après incubation de l'aorte isolée avec la noradrénaline. Le même prétraitement à la réserpine n'a pas augmenté l'effet de l'élédoisine sur la veine isolée du lapin. Cette préparation par contre devient facilement tachyphylactique.

Some structural features of isolated mitochondrial membranes

Zusammenfassung Isolierte Membranen von Mitochondrien (Ratte) wurden mit Kaliumpermanganat fixiert, mit Ultraschall behandelt und dann bedampft. Elektronenmikroskopische Aufnahmen zeigen eine granuläre Struktur und gelegentlich auch Fasern. Diese Ergebnisse sind im Einklang mit denen einiger anderer Autoren.
