Media-dependent antagonism of gentamicin sulfate by Liquoid (sodium polyanetholsulfonate)

Zusammenfassung Liquoid^® wirkt als Antagonist zu Gentamicin-Sulfat in Abhängigkeit vom jeweiligen Testnährmedium. Zugabe von frischem Serum bedingt im Gegensatz zu Polymyxin B keine Verstärkung seiner antagonistischen Wirkung gegen Aminoglykosid-Antibiotika.     

Improved separation at low temperature of glycoproteins by Con A-Sepharose affinity chromatography in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)

Summary The Con A-Sepharose affinity chromatography of glycoproteins was even more effective at 4°C than that at room temperature (26–28°C) in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). Application of this methodology to the seperation of several glycoproteins from SDS-solubilized membrane proteins in rat cerebellum, including a glycoprotein characteristics of the Purkinje cells, was sucessful.Acknowledgments. Application of this methodology to the separation of several glycoproteins from SDS-solubilized membrane proteins in rat cerebellum, including a glycoprotein characteristic of the Purkinje cells, was successful.     

Antagonism by thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) of pentobarbital-induced hypothermia in rats with brain lesions

Summary Anesthesia with a large dose of pentobarbital (55 mg/kg, i.p.) caused a sustained decrease in brain temperature (Tb), which was monitored with a probe placed in the midbrain reticular formation. The administration of TRH to the lateral ventricle antagonized this hypothermia. None of the acute surgeries examined in this paper (adrenal-demedullectomy, septal knife cuts, electrolytic lesions of the hypothalamus and midbrain knife cuts) had any essential effect on this antagonism by TRH. These results suggest that centrally-administered TRH exerts its effect on thermoregulation, at least in part, through brain structure(s) caudal to the midbrain.

Antagonism of prostaglandin-induced cyclic AMP accumulation in the rat anterior pituitary in vitro by somatostatin analogues

Summary The PGE₂-induced cyclic AMP accumulation in the rat anterior pituitary in vitro is inhibited by [desamino¹]-, [desamino¹] [descarboxy¹⁴] and [d-Lys⁴]-somatostatin similarly to somatostatin, while the [descarboxy¹⁴]-somatostatin exhibits reduced activity; [d-Lys⁹]-somatostatin is ineffective at a higher concentration.The authors acknowledge the technical assistance ofG. Zusammenfassung Pentosan Sulfat (SP 54) erhöht sowohl die primäre als auch die sekundäre Immunantwort bei Mäusen, wenn diese mit einer suboptimalen Antigendosis geimpft werden.     

The inhibition of amphibian ovulation in vitro by cytochalasin B

Zusammenfassung Cytochalasin B (5 g/ml) verhindert in vitro vollständig die inRana pipiens undHyla regilla durch Gonadotropinbehandlung stimulierte Ovulation, während die Meiose weiter abläuft. Diese Resultate werden mit früheren Beobachtungen einer ähnlichen Empfindlichkeit der Follikelzellenbewegung bei Seesternen verglichen. Ein für Echinodermen und niedere Wirbeltiere gemeinsamer Follikelmechanismus für die Austreibung des Ovarialeies aus dem Ovar wird vorgeschlagen.

Half-life of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHAS) during pregnancy]

During pregnancy the half-life of DHAS was measured after non tritiated DHAS infusion. At 30 weeks, the mean value obtained for DHAS half-life was 3.64 h +/- 0.74 and it was 3.67h +/- 0.38 at 38 weeks. The half-life of DHAS is shorter in pregnant than in non-pregnant women. Among 14 pathological pregnancies that we studied, 13 cases exhibited a DHAS half-life significantly longer than the average value obtained in normal pregnancies. In retarded fetal growth, the half-life of DHAS was more closely related to fetal than to placental weight.     

Suppressor effect induced by sodium periodate on the antibody response of mouse splenic cells in vitro : inhibition of this effect by sodium borohydride]

Mild oxidation of mouse spleen cells by sodium periodate induces blastogenesis. Concomitantly, the in vitro response of these cells to sheep red blood cells is inhibited. Exposure of spleen cells to sodium borohydride following periodate treatment reduces blastogenesis and restores the immune response.     

The influence of sodium transport on glucose transport by anin vitro intestinal preparation

Riassunto Vengono riportati i dati ottenuti sul trasporto di sodio e di glucosio attraverso l'intestino isolato di ratto, perfuso con soluzioni isotoniche a diverso contenuto di sodio. Da questi dati appare che non solo il trasporto di sodio dipende dalla concentrazione di sodio nel liquido mucosale, ma anche il transporto di glucosio. Si prospetta l'ipotesi, inoltre, che il passaggio di sodio dalla mucosa alla sierosa sia necessario sopratutto per il trasferimento del glucosio dalle cellule al liquido serosale.     

Antagonism by haloperidol of the suppression of exploratory locomotor activity induced by the local application of (-)3-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-N-n-propylpiperidine into the nucleus accumbens of the rat

The injection of (-)3-PPP into the nucleus accumbens, 10 microgram/side, produced a suppression of exploratory locomotor activity without affecting treadmill locomotion. Furthermore, the suppression of exploratory locomotor activity produced by (-)3-PPP was antagonized by the administration of haloperidol, 25-50 micrograms/kg i.p.
