Summary The authors investigated the distribution of serum proteins, especially the ₂ fraction, in rats with artificially induced hypertension (A), in similar rats made normotone by choline-free diet (B), and in a control group (C). A rise in the ₂ fraction of groupA andB was found, without a significant change of the other serum proteins.

Summary A new chromatographic technique is described, which makes use of the affinity of anhydrides and imides of tetrahalogenophthalic acids towards aromatic and heterocyclic polycyclic compounds. This method has been successfully applied to the resolution of some problems of analytical organic chemistry.     

Préparation des sous-unités de la dopamineβ hydroxylase humaine et des anticorps anti-sous-unités

Summary The present study deals with the dissociation of human dopamine hydroxylase (DBH) in subunits with a mol. wt of 79,500, and the preparation of specific antibodies in rabbits. No cross-reactivity was observed between human DBH and antibodies against human DBH subunits.

Analyses immunoélectrophorétiques des fractions protéiques du sérum humain séparées par électrophorèse en gel d'amidon

Summary Human plasma components, separated by starch gel electrophoresis, are eluted and concentrated by lyophilisation. Immuno-electrophoretic analysis shows that certain of these fractions are immunologically heterogenous. The authors point out that this immunological criterium should be used before employing an eluted fraction, even if it appears electrophoretically homogenous.      

Sur l'inhibition sélective des acétylcholinestérasesin vivo chez le chien

Summary 3318 CT [bis(piperidinométhylcoumaranyl-5) cetone diméthiodide] a compound recently synthesized byA. Funke andK. von Däniken, is shown to be a potent and selective inhibitor, bothin vitro andin vivo, of the blood acetyl-cholinesterase (AcChE) of the dog. It produces acetylcholinomimetic symptoms in the animal and sensitizes different responses to acetylcholine and to stimulation of cholinergic nerves without inhibiting the blood non-specific cholinesterase (XChE). However, the action of 3318 CT appears to be limited, both in nature and in intensity, when compared to that of prostigmine, although the latter substance is a less potent inhibitor of AcChEin vitro than is 3318 CT. This difference is probably related to many factors, one of which may be the fact that prostigmine inhibits not only AcChE but also XChE; and it is not yet ascertained that XChE plays no role at all in the limitation of the effect of the stimulations of cholinergic nerves.

La question des hétérochromosomes chez les Sauropsidés. Oiseaux

Summary The chromosomes of the fowl were studied with the aid ofMakino's andNishimura's water pretreatment squash technique, modified byMatthey, in embryonic spleen and gonads of both sexes. The number of chromosomes was found to be about 78; the numerical variations are to be ascribed to technical difficulties, caused by the extremely small size of the microchromosomes, rather than to an unchromosomelike behaviour of the latter, as was supposed byNewcomer andBrant. As to the exact number of chromosomes, we consider its determination beyond the possibilities of cytology. The 5^th largest pair of the male, represented by a single element in the female, could be identified as the sex chromosome pair, in accordance with the findings ofYamashina. The digamety might be of theZ-O orZ-W type.

Sur l'interaction entre aldéhydes ou réductones et acides aminés ou protéines

Summary Proteins were exposed to acetaldehyde vapour or mixed with glucose in solution and the basic groups determined by their dy binding capacity. Only serum albumin shows a marked decrease of basic groups and of the carbon/nitrogen ratio as a sign of condensation of aldehyde and amine groups. These results were corroborated by the direct estimation of the aldehyde resine formed on the protein: serum albumin and fibrin treated with acetaldehyde vapour contained 5 to 10 times more resin than the other proteins examined. No rapid combination between serum proteins and glucose could be demonstrated by the dy method or by the kinetics of change of pH. The slow reaction seems not to be dependent on denaturation.     

Effets comparés de laβ-propiolactone et du formol sur les propriétés inductrices de l'organisateur chez les amphibiens

Summary -propiolactone-treated dorsal lips ofAmbystoma mexicanum are grafted in the blastocele of young gastrulas. The inducing ability of dorsal lips is not altered. These results are compared with the effects of formaldehyde which suppress the inducing ability. An interpretation of these facts is proposed. The cross-linking reactions which occur between formaldehyde and proteins may be important for the suppressing of the inductive ability by this agent.

Activitéin vivo de dérivés de la thiourée contre le virus de l'influenza

Summary A large number of sulphur-containing compounds bearing the thiourea group -NH-CS-NH-, including substituted thiocarbanilides, 1-acyl-4-arylthiosemicar-bazides, 1-(arylaminothioformyl)-thiosemicarbazides, 4-aryl-1-(arylaminothioformyl)- thiosemicarbazides, and other related substances have been tested for potential antiviral activity. Several of these compounds have been found chemotherapeutically active against influenza virus.

Sur l'interaction de la Protamine avec des protéines sériques

Summary We noticed the formation of a precipitate on adding salmine to dilute aqueous protein solution at pH 6–7. Human and bovine serum albumin, human -globulin, and the perchloro- and sulfosalicylosoluble mucoides do not precipitate in this condition. - and -lipoproteins prepared by floatation and by Sandor's technique gave S-shaped nephelometric titration curves, as did haptoglobin, a mixture of the types Hp II-Hp II and Hp II-Hp I. In sera incubated 24 h at 37°C with protamin, the dextran sulphate test and the cetavlon test show a diminished value for -lipo- and -glucoprotein. Lipoprotein degradation is probably enzymatic in nature.     

Activité staphylostatique de composés du groupe des benzophénarsazines

Summary It is shown that certain compounds belonging to the group of angular benzophenarsazines display a high specific bacteriostatic activity towardsMicrococcus pyogenes var.aureus. This biological property provides a further ground of similarity between these compounds and one of their structural analogues, 3,4–5,6-dibenzocarbazole.     

La question des hétérochromosomes chez les Sauropsidés. I. Reptiles

Summary In contradiction to some Japanese authors (Oguma, Makino, Nakamura), we are unable to find any difference in the chromosome sets of the male and female ofLacerta vivipara (2N = 36). In a saurian, where the analysis is very easy (Chamaeleon bitaeniatus), there are, without the smallest doubt, 24 chromosomes in both sexes (20M + 4m). The evidence of a female heterogamety in turtles is by no means satisfying.     

Les glycoprotéines sériques dans le granulome expérimental provoqué par la carrageenine

Summary We studied serum glycoproteins in rats and guinea pigs during the development of granulomas, provoked by carrageenin injection. In rats total serum sialic acid was raised as well as sialic acid soluble in sulfosalicylic acid and haptoglobin. The rise of these 2 fractions, seromucoid and haptoglobine accounts quantitatively for the rise of the total sialic acid. In guinea pigs total serum sialic acid was unchanged, but sulfosalicylosoluble sialic acid as well as haptoglobin were much higher than basal values. Quantitatively the serum glycoprotein reaction was much higher in rats than in guinea pigs.     

Electrophorèse sur gel d'amidon des lipoprotéines sériques humaines

Summary The electrophoretic pattern of human serum lipoproteins after migration in starch gel is different from that obtained by other zone electrophoresis techniques. The most important component which migrates between the slot and slow alpha — 2 globulins may be identified as the component being precipitated by dextrane Sulfate and calcium chloride. The other components have the same mobility as either beta or alpha globulins.     

Structure moléculaire et activité tuberculostatique dans le groupe des dérivés de la thiourée

Summary A large number of N,N-diarylthioureas and N-aryl-N-pyridylthioureas have been tested forin vitro tuberculostatic activity, and several of them have been found highly active. A series of 1-acyl-4-arylthiosemicarbazides have likewise been investigated, and most of them found to be active at a concentration of 10^–4; this is considered the basic activity corresponding to the molecular grouping -CO-NH-NH-CS-NH-.
