The concentration of vasopressin and oxytocin in the human hypothalamo-hypophysial system

Zusammenfassung Hypothalamus, Hypophysenstiel, Hypophysenhinterlappen und -vorderlappen wurden bei 50 Menschen auf Oxytocin- und Arginin-Vasopressinaktivität untersucht. In allen 4 Geweben wurde Vasopressin and Oxytocin gefunden, wobei das Verhältnis der beiden Polypeptide (V/O) von 3.9 (Hypothalamus) bis 0.7 (Vorderpol der Adenohypophyse) variierte. Der quantitative Nachweis der beiden Polypeptide im Hypophysenvorderlappen ist speziell interessant im Hinblick auf die Auffassung, dass die Adenohypophyse unter hypothalamischer Kontrolle steht.

Effect of human serum oxytocinase on the antidiuretic action of lysine vasopressin and oxytocin in the rat

Zusammenfassung Nach i.v. Dauerinfusion von Lysin-Vasopressin oder Oxytocin wird bei der experimentellen Analyse der Wirkung menschlicher Oxytocinase eine Erniedrigung des antidiuretischen Effekts gefunden; diese rührt vom Absinken der Peptidkonzentration sowohl im Blutplasma als auch am Wirkort her.     

An attempt to immunize the blue crab,callinectes sapidus,with vertebrate red blood cells

Résumé Nous avons essayé d'augmenter le titre de l'hémagglutinine naturelle qui se trouve dans le sérum du crabe bleu,Callinectes sapidus, par l'inoculation d'hématies de vertébrés. On a noté une augmentation légère de ce titre après 48 h, mais elle n'était apparemment pas spécifique, puisque on peut la provoquer avec l'antigène hétérologique et une solution saline ainsi que l'antigène homologique. Il appert qu'il s'agit là d'une réponse intérieure défensive et non-spécifique due à quelque force extérieure.     

Peptides related to vasopressin in invertebrates

Summary Compounds chemically related to the vertebrate neurohypophysial peptides, vasopressin and neurophysin, have been detected in recent years in the brain and in ganglia of invertebrates. Most data acquired so far have been obtained in insects and in molluscs. Evidence suggesting that these compounds might exert neurohormonal and neurotransmitter functions in these species is reviewed.Work by the authors is supported in part by Swiss NSF grant 3.560.083.

An attempt to determine the time of cystine aminopeptidase (oxytocinase) appearance in the chick embryo plasma

Zusammenfassung In Hühnerembryonen wurde der Blutplasmaspiegel der Cystinaminopeptidase (Oxytocinase) bestimmt. Das Ferment konnte erst nach 19 Tagen Inkubationszeit nachgewiesen werden. Die Oxytocinasemenge steigt mit dem Alter der Embryonen an und erreicht nach 3 Tagen die Blutplasmawerte der adulten Hühner.     

Pyrogallol and vasopressin tachyphylaxis

Résumé Le pyrogallol empêche le développement d'une tachyphylaxie à la vasopressine. Il restitue la réaction pressorique après l'apparition d'une tachyphylaxie. Cet effet ne semble pas être lié à l'action inhibitrice de cette substance sur l'enzyme transférase o-méthyl.     

Use of three specific radioimmunoassays in measuring neurohypophysial hormone content and plasma concentrations of vasopressin, oxytocin and DDAVP in rats after prolonged infusion of DDAVP

Specific radioimmunoassays (RIA) were employed for measuring plasma and neurohypophysial concentrations of oxytocin (OT) and vasopressin (AVP) after administration of 1-deamino-8-D-Arg-vasopressin (DDAVP). DDAVP concentrations were measured by a newly-developed specific RIA. Through the use of minipumps, DDAVP was infused i.p. over a period of 3 days in normally hydrated rats. Despite decreased urine production and increased urine osmolality no changes could be observed in neurohypophysial and plasma hormone concentrations.

An attempt at the achievement of acquired tolerance of skin homografts in post-natal life

Zusammenfassung Während 3 Wochen wurden zwei geschlechtsreifen Mäusen Thymusextrakte aus Schweinefrühfrucht subkutan bzw. intraperitoncal injiziert. Implantierte Hautläppchen aus gattungsfremder Maus ergab Einwachsen vom Rande her und dauerhafte Implantate ohne Schwundtendenz.     

Transfer of fresh and frozen-thawed rabbit embryos to produce live young

Live rabbits for immunological experiments were produced by transfer of fresh or frozen-thawed embryos. The transfer of 505 fresh embryos and 55 frozen-thawed embryos resulted in 141 young born alive, 81 of which lived between several months and several years. The control group consisted of 55 litters from natural matings. About 70% of the live-born rabbits of natural mating and 55% of the young delivered by embryo transfer survived for more than eight weeks. Average litter sizes were 5.7, 3.7 and 2.2 for naturally mated females, fresh embryo transfer recipients, and frozen-thawed recipients, respectively.     

Monoclonal antibodies to L-asparaginase

Five hybridomas secreting monoclonal antibody to E. coli L-asparaginase were isolated. These monoclonal antibodies were classified into 3 different subclasses; Ig G1 (1 clone), Ig G2 (2 clones) and Ig G3 (2 clones). One of them possessed anti-L-asparaginase neutralizing activity. Four antibodies examined demonstrated a linear Langmuir binding plot and binding affinities, with equilibrium dissociation constant (Kd) ranging between 2.5 X 10(-9) M and 6.3 X 10(-10) M. The monoclonal antibodies should be useful probes for investigation of the enzyme activity.

Failure to produce tumours in cattle with 20-methylcholanthrene and 3,4-benzpyrene

Zusammenfassung Fünf jungen Kälbern wurden chemische Karzinogene (20-Methylcholanthren und 3,4-Benzpyren) subkutan oder mittels implantierter Gelatinekapseln verabreicht. Die Tiere wurden 6–36 Monate lang beobachtet. In keinem der Tiere konnten signifikante Veränderungen festgestellt werden.     

Long term stability of lysine vasopressin and of specifically tritiated lysine vasopressin in weakly acidic aqueous solutions

Summary Lysine vasopressin tritiated at meta position of tyrosine (1.9 Ci/mmole) decomposes during a long storage period, mainly as a result of radiolysis. The loss of specific activity by isotopic exchange with water is slow. The nonlabelled peptide undergoes only very minute decomposition (polymerization). Affinity of 1,2-substituted oxytocin analogues to the uterus receptor: Free-Wilson and Hansch analysis

Summary The analysis of pA₂ values for 1,2-substituted oxytocin analogues suggests a significant resonance effect of psubstituted groups in 2-tyrosine when the hormone binds to its uterus receptor, whereas the N-terminal amino group exerts less clearly characterized effects (participation of its lipophilicity and molecular volume can be assumed).Supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation, grant No. 3.040.76.
