The effect of N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-palmitamide on delayed hypersensitivity in guinea-pig

Zusammenfassung Die Wirkung von N-(2-hydroxyethyl)palmitamid auf den Verlauf der Überempfindlichkeit des Spättypes in Meerschweinchen wurde verfolgt und festgestellt, dass die Verabreichung dieses Stoffes vor der Sensibilisierung eine Stimulation der Hypersensitivität bewirkt.     

The isolation of a phytotoxin from cultures ofDidymella applanata (Niessl)sacc

Zusammenfassung Die Isolierung eines phytotoxischen Stoffes aus der Kulturflüssigkeit vonDidymella applanata (Niessl)sacc., der eine Krankheit bei Himbeeren verursacht, wird beschrieben. Die Symptome dieser Krankheit und die Züchtungsbedingungen für den Mikroorganismus und die Testpflanzen werden angegeben. Das Toxin dürfte ein Oligosaccharid sein.     

Release of immuno-reactive and biologically active LH from fetal mouse pituitary in response to synthetic gonadotropin releasing factor (LRF)

Summary In an incubation system, LRF stimulated significantly the release of LH from 18-day-old mouse fetal pituitary. This LRF-induced LH release, measured by RIA in the incubation medium was able to increase the testosterone production by age-matched fetal testes. This data suggests that the hypothalamo-hypophyseal-testicular axis is functional at the end of mouse prenatal life.The expert technical assistance of MrsM. T. Latreille andA. Delayed hypersensitivity in BALB/c and Charles-River mice injected at birth with a single dose of 7,12-dimethylbenz (α) anthracene (DMBA)

Riassunto Una iniezione neonatale di 100 g di DMBA in topi BALB/c e Charles-River deprime la risposta immunitaria, a tipo ipersensibilità ritardata, in animali di 90–100 giorni di età, mentre non pare agire come fattore deprimente in topi valutati 20–30 giorni dopo la nascita ed il trattamento oncogeno.     

Visual receptive fields from cells of a marsupial (Didelphis virginiana) superior colliculus

Zusammenfassung Einzelne Zellen in der Region des superior colliculus des BeuteltieresDidelphis virginiana können von der linken oder auch rechten Retina stimuliert werden. Diese Zellen verfügen über eine gut entwickelte intermodale Reaktionsfähigkeit, Selektivität gegenüber gerichteter Bewegung und rasche Gewohnheitsbildung. Zellpopulationen derselben Region repräsentieren eine grosse Anzahl von «receptive field»-Geometrien.

Establishment of normal diploid and malignant heteroploid cell lines from non-treated and benzo(a)pyrene treated hamster embryo cell cultures

Summary Two normal diploid control cell lines and a heteroploid malignant transformed cell line from B(a) P treated hamster embryo cell cultures were established. The 14-month-old B(a)P transformed cell line grew 8-times faster than the 20-month-old control cell line. The control cell line showed normal diploid chromosome complement in 93% cells and heteroploidy in 7% cells while B(a)P treated line showed 83% heteroploid cells and only 17% diploid cells. This is the first report on the establishment of diploid hamster cell cultures grown for extended period. Acknowledgments. Modification of effects of biologically active peptides,caused by enzyme treatment,on the excitability of identifiable giant neurones of an African giant snail (Achatina fulica Férussac)

Summary Physalaemin, which excites an identifiable molluscan giant neurone (the TAN, tonically autoactive neurone), lost the effect after the trypsin treatment. Unexpectedly, this peptide shows an inhibitory effect on the same neurone after chymotrypsin treatment. Deamino-dicarba-(d-d-)oxytocin and d-d-Arg-vasotocin, which excite another identifiable neurone (the PON, periodically oscillating neurone) continue to show the effect after chymotrypsin treatment (6 h). The effect of thyroid gland on 5-Hydroxy-tryptamine (5-HT) level of brain stem and blood in rabbits

Zusammenfassung An Kaninchen wurde die Wirkung von Schilddrüsenfütterung und Thyreoidektomie auf das 5-HT-Niveau im Hirnstamm und Blut untersucht. In hyperthyreotischem Zustand ist der 5-HT-Spiegel im Blut und im Hirnstamm erhöht, bei Athyreose ist er verringert. Der Schilddrüseneffekt wird in der Veränderung des Tryptophan- Stoffwechsels über das zentrale Nerven-system gesehen.

Assessment of superoxide-mediated release of vascular-inhibitory factor(s) from endothelial cells by using a two-bath system

Summary Release of a vascular-inhibitory factor from endothelial cells (EC), different from endothelium-derived relaxant factor (EDRF), was identified through use of a two-bath system. This two-bath system precluded the effects of oxygen-free radicals that appear when electrical field stimulation (EFS) is directly imposed on detector muscle.
