Summary 5-[nitro-thiazolyl-(2)]-2-oxo-tetrahydroimidazole was found to possess schistosomicidal and amoebicidal properties. In mice this substance exhibited a curative effect in experimental infections withS. mansoni andS. japonicum. Preliminary clinical trials indicated that the compound is effective and well tolerated in the treatment of vesical bilharziasis.     

Chemische Kopplung von Hexokinase aus Hefe an Sephadex

Summary Yeast hexokinase was coupled to Sephadex by means of cyanogen bromide. The activity of the fixed enzyme was 2% of that before coupling. The activity of the noncoupled part of the enzyme was also decreased to the same degree. This decrease cannot be caused by the coupling reaction itself. The Michaelis-constants and the pH-activity curve of the coupled enzyme do not differ significantly from that of the free enzyme.     

Eine Methode zur fortlaufenden Blutentnahme aus der Vena portae von Hunden

Summary A method is described for the introduction of a PVC.-Catheter into the portal vein of dogs. The catheter is introduced into one of the mesenteric veins of the ileum and pushed through the vena mesenterica communis until the portal vein is reached. The catheter, the end of which is fixed to the skin on the outside, can be removed without any injury to the animal by just drawing it out through the skin. The method can be applied for taking blood at various intervals during experiments on absorption, measurement of blood pressure in the portal vein and its branches, for the injection of substances directly into the liver, etc., on unanaesthetized animals.

Summary 4 cocarcinogenic compounds have been isolated from croton oil by combination of countercurrent distribution and column chromatography without chemical procedures. The hitherto unknown component A₃ is described as an acetic acid and palmitic acid Phorboldiester with the formula C₃₈H₆₀O₈.

Neue lokalanästhetisch wirksame basische Cycloalkylester von substituierten Carbanilsäuren

Summary Highly active local anaesthetics from the group of basic substituted cyclohexylesters of 2-chloro-, 2, 6-dichloro-, 2-chloro-6-methyl-, 2-methyl-, 2, 6-dimethyl-and 2,4,6-trimethylcarbanilic acid were developed. The substances were tested for local anaesthetic activity in surface anaesthesia.     

Zur Frage der Neubildung von Primordialfollikeln aus dem Keimepithel während der Geschlechtsreife im menschlichen Ovar

Summary Findings in the human ovary confirmed the fact already pointed out in animal ovaries that under the influence of oestrogens the germinal epithelium is capable of forming new oocytes. Whether the germinal epithelium of the mature woman can form new oocytes under normal conditions cannot be determined as yet, but the present findings allow the conclusion that neo-oogenesis during the reproductive period of women seems possible. Further investigations, now in progress, are required to determine this possibility.     

Eine vollautomatische Probenverbrennungsanlage für die Messtechnik von H-3 und C-14 im Flüssigszintillations-Spektrometer

Summary To avoid quench corrections in liquid scintillation counting, an automatic sample-combustion device has been developed. Triggered by the preset time of whatever liquid scintillation counter is available and connected to it by an extended surveyor belt, the designed machine burns each sample, dissolves the combustion products, CO₂ and H₂O, in the scintillator solution and introduces the vial in the liquid scintillation counter.

Summary A hitherto unknown endocrine gland in the head ofScutigera coleoptrata is described. It is attached to a small blood vessel. Its cells are typical podocytes. Between the pedicells and along the lateral cell membranes, there are many intercellulary spaces. The fine structure of the gland is very similar to that of the collar gland in the diplopodPolyxenus lagurus.

Summary A novel and simple kind of¹⁴CO₂ trap is described. It can be used directly for subsequent scintillation counting. Solutions for optimal absorption and counting efficiency are indicated.     

Actin aus Kalbsherzmuskel

Summary Sedimentation coefficient, intrinsic viscosity, amino acid composition and myosin binding capacity of actin from calf's heart were determined. The results are in fair agreement with values published for actin from other sources. No influence of strophantin-g or strophantin-k on the velocity of polymerization and the viscosity and thixotropy of f-actin could be detected.

Summary Potassium and sodium from isolated pig hypothalamic vesicles cause a dose dependent release of noradrenaline. The releasing effect of nicotine is less pronounced than that of acetylcholine. No addition of the effects could be observed by simultaneous incubation with calcium and potassium or calcium and nicotine. The effect of potassium is abolished by tetracain.
