Summary Digestive juice ofHelix pomatia was studied by immunoelectrophoresis: after incubation with a chromogenic substrate, 5-bromo-4-chloroindol-3-yl--D-galactopyranoside, two-galactosidases were revealed.     

Monoamine oxidase activity in Helix pomatia.

The distribution and characterization of MAO in various tissues of the snail were analyzed. Only low amounts of the enzyme exist in the different tissues and data suggest that there is more than one type of MAO.

Summary A strong immunological crossreactivity between the extracts of the albumin gland of snails (Helix pomatia) and the content of snail eggs is described, suggesting that the former supplies the eggs with protective substances (agglutinins, protease-inhibitors).

Degradation of bacterial lipopolysaccharide by gut juice of the snailHelix pomatia

Summary Lipopolysaccharides from several bacteria were selectively degraded by gut juice of the snailHelix pomatia with extensive loss of anticomplementary activity and changes in the electrophoretic pattern in polyacrylamide gels. The gut juice had little effect on ketodeoxyoctonate content or immunodominant sugars. The lipid A moiety of the lipopolysaccharide appeared to be the main site of attack.     

Naloxone selectively blocks dopamine response of Br-type neuron inHelix pomatia L.

Summary The present study demonstrates that the potent opiate antagonist, naloxone can selectively block the DA induced inhibition of the bursting activity pattern of the RPal or Br-type neuron. Egg-species recognition in cannibalistic hatchlings of the land snailsArianta arbustorum andHelix pomatia

Summary Laboratory experiments were conducted to determine whether cannibalistic hatchling of the land snailsArianta arbustorum andHelix pomatia discriminate between eggs of the two species. Hatchlings from both species showed a significant choice for conspecific eggs and consumed on average 1 egg in 4 days. Eggs from the other species were only occasionally eaten.     

Fluoruration du DDT

Summary The fluorination of DDT has led to the isolation of dichloro-diphenyl-difluoro-chloroethane. The introduction of the two fluorine atoms decreases considerably the paralysing effect, but does not seem to affect the toxicity of this insecticide.     

The function of the intestine in the pulmonate mollusc Helix pomatia L.

Summary Everted sacs of intestine from Helix pomatia do not actively transfer glucose, galatose, methionine, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid or proline from the mucosal to serosal surfaces. Untersuchungen über die Reinigung des Protektins Anti-Ahel (Anti-AHP) ausHelix pomatia

Summary A method is described which allows separation of the protectin Anti A _hel (Anti A _HP from crude extracts of the protein gland ofHelix pomatia. A solution of the crude extract in 0.05M sodium phosphate buffer, pH 7.0, is applicated on a Sephadex G 200 column. The protectin is retained on the gel matrix, while the other components of the mixture are eluted. The protectin is eluted with a 0.5M solution of glucose in buffer, and is isolated by dialyzation against aqua dest. and lyophilization.

Summary The active interstitial cells of the testis ofLebistes reticulatus R. have numerous, big, dense mitochondria of tubular structure and a developed endoplasmic reticulum. The formation of lipochrome pigment granules corresponds to a degenerative evolution of these cells.     

Action anti-hypertensive du polythiazide

Summary Polythiazide, like other thiazides, has an anti-hypertensive action in rats with DOCA hypertension but not with arterial hypertension produced by narrowing one renal artery.     

Methionine enkephalin inhibits the bursting activity of the Br-type neuron inHelix pomatia L.

Summary The present study demonstrates that methionine enkephalin can inhibit the normal bursting activity pattern of the RPal or Br-type neuron and this inhibition can be blocked by prior treatment with naloxone, the selective opiate antagonist. The study demonstrates indirectly the presence of opiate-like receptors inHelix pomatia.Acknowledgments.
