Summary Karyotypic changes involving a deletion and a translocation of certain sex-linked tumor-inducing loci of the platyfish,Platypoecilus (Xiphophorus) maculatus, have been investigated. Summary In order to determine how informative homologous donor DNA might be made available to propigment cells of the recipientXiphophorus helleri for transformation, labelled heterologous DNA fromE. coli was injected into the neural crest region or the yolk sac of embryos of the recipient. On the basis of the degradation rate of the donor DNA and the incorporation rate of radioactivity into the recipient DNA, it is concluded that injection into the neural crest region may be a suitable method to make available informative homologous donor DNA for transformation.Supported by DFG through SFB No. 103, and by Stiftung Volkswagenwerk.  相似文献

Summary IfXiphophorus helleri males are kept in social isolation for 14–56 days, the fights for rank order position showed an increasing duration and intensity. These results support the idea of a spontaneous accumulation of attack readiness and are in contrast to the results in cichlid fishes. It is supposed that the different influence of social isolation to aggressive behaviour corresponds to different types of social organisation anp ecological adaptations.

Summary The F1- and FnR-hybrids ofPlatypoecilus maculatus andXiphophorus helleri (Poeciliidae), producing melanomase spontaneously, contain essentially more free amino acids than the initial species. Further experiments show that the abnormally high content of free amino acids is connected with the spontaneous formation of tumors.

Summary If certain hybrids ofPlatypoecilus maculatus andXiphophorus helleri (viviparous platyfish and swordtails) are cultivated in diluted sea-water (0.25 or 0.5% salt concentration), the amount of free amino acids increases and the growth of macromelanophores, which normally only form certain black spots at the dorsal fin, is accelerated. Therefore melanomas arise. After changing salt water for fresh water, growth of macromelanophores remains accelerated. The same effect is seen in progenies which have been in an oocytic or embryonic state, when their mother was cultivated for some weeks in diluted sea-water (Figures 1 and 2). A similar effect has been observed in plant galls produced byPhylloxera (Viteus vitifolii) in the genusVitis. When the parasite, which injects amino acids into the tissue of the host in order to produce galls, is removed, gall formation goes on slowly for some days. It is shown that a few hours after injection of amino acids—before formation of neoplasms begins—the concentration of ribonucleic acids is increased. RNS-(and therefore protein-)biosynthesis in neoplasms may be dependent on concentration of free amino acids. A simple concept for the formation of neoplasms in hybrids of platyfish and galls ofPhylloxera is discussed.

In this paper we show that optimal trading results can be achieved if we can forecast a key summary statistic of future prices. Consider the following optimization problem. Let the return ri (over time i=1, 2, ..., n) for the ith day be given and the investor has to make investment decision di on the ith day with di=1 representing a ‘long' position and di=0 a ‘neutral' position. The investment return is given by rni=1ridicΣn+1i=1didi−1∣, where c is the transaction cost. The mathematical programming problem of choosing d1, ..., dn to maximize r under a given transaction cost c is shown to have an analytic solution, which is a function of a key summary statistic called the largest change before reversal. The largest change before reversal is recommended to be used as an output in a neural network for the generation of trading signals. When neural network forecasting is applied to a dataset of Hang Seng Index Futures Contract traded in Hong Kong, it is shown that forecasting the largest change before reversal outperforms the k‐step‐ahead forecast in achieving higher trading profits. All 3 quantities can be calculated if the equilibrium constant is known. A plot oft against ln{[1–P/(D+P cP o)]/[1–P/(P cP o)]} should be a straight line for any second order reaction. For each stoichiometry,P cP o approachesA o, the initial concentration of the first reactant, as the equilibrium constant increases. When a second reactant is present,D+P eP o approachesB o. The limiting equation is then that of an irreversible bimolecular reaction. For AP+Q,D approaches –K e as the equilibrium constant becomes large, and the value of the second logarithmic term in the integrated equation approaches zero.
