Conclusion Somatic heterochromatization of the opossum,D. virginiana, was studied from prophase and tritiated thymidine-labeled metaphase chromosome preparations. In both sexes of this mammal, a number of prophase autosomes and the sex chromosomes were observed displaying deeply stained condensed areas. These chromosomal areas were interpreted as evidence for heterochromatization. The extent of heterochromatization in the opossum was found much greater in certain autosomes than either theX orY chromosome alone. This assertion that some opossum autosomes possess more heterochromatin than the sex chromosomes was supported by data collected on the terminal labeling patterns of the chromosomes. Metaphase autoradiographs prepared from cultured leucocytes of the animals unequivocally suggested that certain opossum autosomes completed replication later than the sex chromosomes. If one assumes that there is heterochromatin in the autosomes, as the evidence suggests, then it merely becomes a question as to what block of heterochromatin replicates last — a phenomenon that is probably size dependent.
Résumé L'héterochromatisation somatique de l'opossum (Didelphys virginiana) a été étudiée sur des préparations de chromosomes aux stades de la prophase et de la métaphase, la thymidine ayant été utilisée comme marqueur. Dans les 2 sexes de ce mammifère de nombreux autosomes et les chromosomes sexuels montrent, à la prophase, des plages denses fortement colorées. Ces plages chromosomiales ont été interprétées comme un signe évident d'héterochromatisation. L'héterochromatisation est beaucoup plus accentuée dans certains autosomes que dans les chromosomesX ouY. Les autoradiographies de stades métaphasiques dans des préparations effectuées de leucocytes en cultures suggèrent d'une façon non équivoque que certains autosomes de l'opossum achèvent leur réplication plus tardivement que les chromosomes sexuels. Si l'on assume que l'héterochromatine est présente dans les autosomes, comme le démontrent nos observations, il semble évident que l'héterochromatine autosomale a un rôle significatif dans le développement.

Summary A sample of 6 Leggada from N'Délé (Central African Republic) morphologically different from all these studied up to now, constitue a new species, which will be described by Dr F.Petter asMus goundae Petter. The caryological analysis reveals a new robertsonian polymorphical system. The diploïd numbers are 2N=16, 17, 18 or 19, whereas theN.F. is constant and equal to 30. The 3 first pairs of autosomes, constituted by SM or MC elements are identical in the 4 types, as well as pairs V (MC) and VI (AC) morphologically constant by all individuals. The robertsonian mechanisms, from which polymorphism originates, take place at pairs IV, VII and VIII. The fourth pair, while heterozygote by 2N=19, assembling one MC and two AC elements, is homozygote and MC by 2N=18, 17 and 16; pairs VII and VIII are both constituted by two AC in the cases of 19 and 18 chromosomes; to form caryotypes with 17 and 16 chromosomes these 2 pairs will fusion: by 2N=17 the mutation is heterozygote (1 MC and 2 AC) and it becomes homozygote by 2N=16 giving birth to 2 MC. The sexual chromosomes are from TR Type (X MC andY SM).From these observations arises the problem of low chromosome numbers (16–20) which shall be discussed in a further publication.  相似文献

Ils s'observent dans les acides amino libres. Dasns leScleron sp., il n'a en a que 14. La systématique de ces espèces est discutée sur la base de leurs caractères biochimiques.

Summary Voles from Yakutia and Chukotka were found to differ in the morphology of 3 pairs of autosomes and sex chromosomes, as well as in M3-structure and skull dimensions. This makes their conspecificity doubtful. A variation in short arm lengths of the X- and Y-chromosomes has been discovered.  相似文献

Summary The males of two species of Palestine,Saga ephippigera Fisch. andS. gracilipes Uvar have respectively 33 and 31 chromosomes in the diploid state.S. pedo Pallas, a parthenogenetic thelytoc species largely distributed in Europe, has 68 chromosomes and probably represents a tetraploid. The cells of the three species have identical dimensions and the polyploidS. pedo is even the smallest in size.  相似文献

Summary The chromosomes of the fowl were studied with the aid ofMakino's andNishimura's water pretreatment squash technique, modified byMatthey, in embryonic spleen and gonads of both sexes. The number of chromosomes was found to be about 78; the numerical variations are to be ascribed to technical difficulties, caused by the extremely small size of the microchromosomes, rather than to an unchromosomelike behaviour of the latter, as was supposed byNewcomer andBrant. As to the exact number of chromosomes, we consider its determination beyond the possibilities of cytology. The 5th largest pair of the male, represented by a single element in the female, could be identified as the sex chromosome pair, in accordance with the findings ofYamashina. Summary A primitive representative of the Caudata endemic to Japan,Hynobius abei Sato (Caudata: Hynobiidae) has 2n=56 chromosomes, with 9 large, 4 medium and 15 small-sized homologous pairs. The morphology of the large-sized chromosomes is similar to that of the knownHynobius species, but the presence of a pair of acrocentrics in the medium-sized group and 5 pairs of biarmed chromosomes in the small-sized group characterized the karyotype ofH. abei.We thank A. Une forme anholocyclique verte de cette espèce possède un karyotype de 2n=13 ou 2n=14, avec 1 ou 2 autosomes non appariés. Une comparaison des dimensions relatives des chromosomes des karyotypes normaux et anormaux suggère que ces derniers dérivent des chromosomes par fragmentation.

Summary The Robertsonian polymorphism ofPitymys subterraneus involves only 1 pair of metacentric autosomes. The crosses of forms with 52, 53 and 54 chromosomes do not show any differences in their reproductive rate. So a single autosome trivalent does not affect the fecondity. Many hybrids have been obtained betweenP. subterraneus (2N=52 or 54) andP. multiplex (2N=48) with 50 or 51 chromosomes, respectively. Even with a heterogenous karyotype they are not entirely sterile. 2 progeny were produced from back-crosses. The 2 parental species seem to result from recent speciation. Only fecondation or embryogenesis occurs in crossingP. duodecimcostatus withP. subterraneus orP. multiplex. The chromosome complement of 1 hybrid embryo ofP. duodecimcostatus (2N=62)×P. multiplex (2N=48) has been studied showing 55 chromosomes.P. duodecimcostatus appears to belong to a more distant evolutionary group.  相似文献

Summary (1) The present paper deals with the chromosomial cytology of 11 species and underspecies ofMuridae. (2) The diploïd number being the same (2N=42), there are striking differences between two species ofBandicota, B. indica showing about 20 big metacentric chromosomes which are lackingB. bengalensis. (3)Meriones blackleri is characterized by 72 chromosomes, the species previously described possessing either 44 or 60 elements. (4) The study ofPhenacomys ungava confirms the view that 56 (54) is the primitive number in theMicroti. There is an interesting parallelism between the morphological and the cytological data. (5) A missing link betweenMicroti andEllobii has been found inMicrotus oregoni which possesses 17 chromosomes, its digamety belonging to the typeX-O, X-X. (6) Owing to the fact thatM. oregoni is more fossorial than the otherMicrotus, it is a morphological intermediate betweenMicroti andEllobii. The karyotype of a lungless salamander,Onychodactylus fischeri, from Korea was analyzed and compared with that of the Japanese congeneric species,O. japonicus. In both species the diploid karyotype consists of78 chromosomes, including 6 pairs of large chromosomes, 6 pairs of medium-sized ones, and the remaining 27 pairs of microchromosomes. The chromosome number ofO. fischeri, 2n=78, is, like that ofO. japonicus, the largest so far reported in the order Urodela. C-banding showed that constitutive heterochromatin inO. fischeri was mainly in the centromeric regions and near the secondary constrictions of the large chromosomes. AgNO3-bands were located in the secondary constrictions associated with C-band heterochromatin.  相似文献

Summary After treatment ofHordeum vulgare, Secale cereale, Triticum aestivum andAvena sativa with Lindan-containing seed dressings, the somatic chromosomes in the root tip mitoses were analyzed. Most of the chromosome sets in the root tip cells have been polyploidized. Using pure Lindan (-hexachlorocyclohexane), it could be shown that this insecticide is responsible for the induction of polyploidy.

Summary In contradiction to some Japanese authors (Oguma, Makino, Nakamura), we are unable to find any difference in the chromosome sets of the male and female ofLacerta vivipara (2N = 36). In a saurian, where the analysis is very easy (Chamaeleon bitaeniatus), there are, without the smallest doubt, 24 chromosomes in both sexes (20M + 4m). The evidence of a female heterogamety in turtles is by no means satisfying.  相似文献

Summary Wild pigs from Germany have 36 chromosomes with 4 pairs of acrocentrics. This is in accordance with the findings in European wild pigs from Tennessee (McFee et al.) but differs from those in the wild pig from Japan and in the domestic pig. Intraspecific Robertsonian changes and a preferential selection of the 38-chromosome-type in the course of domestication may be responsible for these variations.  相似文献

Résumé On décrit une méthode pour l'établissement d'une culture de cellules du crapaud a griffes sudafricain,Xenopus laevis, afin de l'infecter avec des arbovirus. Les cellules (XTC-2) ont subi une culture continue pendant 3 ans. Elles ont un nombre diploïde de chromosomes. Elles furent cultivées aux températures de 22°C et de 28°C dans un milieu de culture dilué de NCTC 109 avec 10% de sérum de veau foetal.

Simple chromosome banding technique for farm animal investigations
Summary For routine cytogenetic investigations, a simple banding technique on chromosomes is described. Used on different cell material, avisible banding appearance is produced which makesthe typing of chromosomes precise and fast. On 2 examples of cattle and rabbit chromosomes, the identification of a centric fusion and a trisomic is shown.
