Effect of p-nitrophenylglycerol on motility of rat epididymal spermatozoa

Two-step acquisition of motility by insect spermatozoa

High motility of eupyrene sperm of a grasshopper (Omocestus ventralis) was induced by cAMP. Both trypsin and cAMP were necessary for high motility of eupyrene sperm of three other species of grasshoppers. The same was found for apyrene sperm of the silkmoth,Bombyx mori, when they had been wahsed free from seminal plasma. On the other hand, in locusts (Locusta migratoria), in which the yellow gland has high Arg-C endopeptidase activity, sperm motility was induced by trypsin, like that of apyrene sperm of Lepidoptera. Thus in these two orders of Insecta, sperm motility appears to be induced by the same two-step process: the first step by Arg-C endopeptidase, and the second by cAMP.     

Specific gravity of epididymal and ejaculated bull spermatozoa and of their parts

Zusammenfassung Es wird ein auffallender Unterschied im spezifischen Gewicht von epididymalen und ejakulierten Bullenspermatozoen durch Gleichgewichtszentrifugierung in Ficollgradienten festgestellt. Ähnliche Versuche mit Kopf- bzw, Mittelstück-Schwanz-Fragmenten, aus ejakulierten Spermien mittelst Ultraschallbehandlung erhalten, zeigen bei Vergleich mit früheren Angaben, dass diese Veränderung nur den Kopf betrifft.     

The effects of pentagastrin on the motility of the ruminant stomach

Résumé L'injection i.v. de 6 µg/kg de gastrine synthétique (ICI 50 123) est suivie, chez les herbivores ruminants, malgré une inhibition prolongée de la motricité rumino-réticulaire, d'une importante contraction de l'omasum (feuillet). La réponse excito-motrice persiste après atropine et semble spécifique du feuillet qui équivaut, sur le plan embryologique, à la partie moyenne de la petite courbure de l'estomac.     

Metabolism of amphibian spermatozoa in relation to their motility

Summary Bufo arenarum spermatozoa were able to sustain motility both under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. In aerobiosis, the oxygen consumption varies between 2.6 and 4.2 l O₂/10⁸ cells/h at 30°C. Effects of Ca2+ and Mg2+ on motility of sea urchin spermatozoa

Summary Swimming speed of sea urchin spermatozoa, measured by a light scattering technique, did not change with 0-20 mM Ca²⁺ in the medium. In an in vitro investigation, methylmercury (MeHg) reduced the motility of rat spermatozoa probably by the inhibition of succinate dehydrogenase and ATPase activities. Concomitant morphological changes observed in the spermatozoa were coiled tails and kinks in midpiece and tail regions.

Effect of toxic and non-toxic sugars on motility of honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) spermatozoa

Zusammenfassung Die Motilität der Spermien bei der HonigbieneApis mellifera L. wird in vitro furch die Monosaccharide Glukose, Fruktose und Galaktose, die Dissacharide Maltose, Melibiose und Trehalose, sowie das Trisaccharid Melezitose ausgelöst. Mamose Rhamnose und Raffinose hingegen sind unwirksam. Von den wirksamen Zuckern sind Galaktose und Melibiose für Bienen giftig.
