Fat-mobilizing substance in the urine of patients with diabetes and with pituitary diseases and the effect of insulin on its action

Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, dass beim Sheehan-Syndrom, trotz herabgesetzter Kalorienzufuhr, im Urin die fettmobilisierende Substanz (Chalmers) fehlt. Bei Akromegalie, teilweise auch beim Diabetes erwies sich der Urinextrakt bei normaler Di?t als aktiv. Eine gleichzeitige Insulinzufuhr verhinderte die fettmobilisierende Wirkung.      

Revised structures for iselin and iliensin and the identity of the former with archangelin

Summary Structures of iselin and iliensin have been revised. The structure (Ib) is secured for iselin by a direct comparison (m.p., UV, IR, PMR) with archangelin. The synthesis of iliensin (IIb) has been effected through the condensation of xanthotoxol (II, R=OH) and -cyclolavandulyl bromide (III). The synthetic product has been shown to be identical with natural iliensin.We thank Dr S.Z. Qasim and Dr M.S. Chadha for the spectral data and C.S.I.R. for a research fellowship to J.V.     

Updating the forecast function of ARIMA models and the link with DLMs

This paper shows that the whole forecast function of ARIMA time series models, and not just the eventual forecast function, may be updated each time an observation is received. The paper also shows that the coefficients in the updating equations for the forecast function may be expressed in exactly the same form as the Kalman filter updating equations for canonical time series DLMs. Moreover, the adaptive factors in the updating equations are shown to be a simple function of the ARIMA model parameters. Organization of the mammalian red nucleus and its interconnections with the cerebellum

Summary The red nucleus in monkeys and rats consists of a magnocellular, rubrospinal portion which receives its cerebellar information from the nucleus interpositus, and a parvocellular, rubroolivary portion which receives cerebellar afferents from the nucleus lateralis. Distinct interpositorubrospinal and dentatorubroolivary projections are therefore common to these 2 species.     

Increase of the cathepsin activity of the liver and of the skeletal muscle of rats treated either with 2,4-dinitrophenol or with bacterial lipopolysaccharide

Riassunto L'attività cateptica dell'omogenato aumenta note-volmente nel fegato e nel muscolo scheletrico di ratti trattati con 2,4-dinitrofenolo, oppure col lipopolisaccaride dellaSalmonella abortus equi, due sostanze piretogene. L'aumento è evidente in animali uccisi 2 h dopo l'iniezione, in fase febbrile. Esso si osserva solo con gli omogenati preparati senza Triton X-100, una sostanza tensioattiva che disintegra i lisosomi, organelli nei quali la catepsina è contenuta. Nessun aumento si osserva, nel caso del fegato, in presenza di Triton. Nel caso del muscolo scheletrico, invece, l'attività cateptica è aumentata anche in presenza di Triton, specialmente negli animali trattati col lipopolisaccaride.     

On the mechanism of catalytic hydrogenation and dehydrogenation with rhodium

Zusammenfassung Mit Hilfe eines neuen Rhodiumpolyvinylalkohol-Katalysators wurde der Mechanismus katalytischer Hydrierungen und Dehydrierungen untersucht. Aus den mitgeteilten Versuchsergebnissen geht hervor, daß molekularer Wasserstoff durch Rhodiumionisiert wird, während mit Palladiumatomarer Wasserstoff gebildet wird. Bei der Untersuchung von Dehydrierungen wurde festgestellt, daß diese Reaktionen in Gegenwart von elementarem Schwefel beschleunigt werden. Der Schwefel wirkt entweder als Wasserstoffakzeptor oder nimmt an einer Komplexbildung teil.

Activation by contact with glass and the action of thrombin

Zusammenfassung Thrombin in kleinen Konzentrationen beschleunigt den Verlauf des Thromboplastin-Differenzierungs (screening)-Tests, unabhängig davon, ob das Plasma vorher durch Kontakt aktiviert wurde oder nicht. Die Wirkung des Thrombins zeigt sich jedoch deutlicher bei aktiviertem Plasma. Die Thrombinzeit des aktivierten Plasmas ist kürzer als die von inaktivem Plasma.     

带自锁功能的作动筒设计与仿真

针对某型导弹折叠翼,设计了一种带自锁和自解锁功能的作动筒。阐述了作动筒的工作原理,建立了弹翼展开角与作动筒工作力之间的关系,并借助动力学仿真软件ADAMS对整个系统进行了仿真分析。仿真结果表明,该种作动筒简化了折叠翼机构的设计工作,提高了系统可靠性,另外,在仿真分析中,将分离夹头作为柔性体考虑才能客观、准确地反映整个系统的运动。

A correlation of the ionization energies of water and ethers with the polar and inductive substituent constants

Résumé On démontre que les énergies d'ionisation des ethers, R₂O, sont une fonction linéaire des constantes substituentes polaires et inductives. Les groupes alkyls qui donnent des électrons abaissent l'énergie d'ionisation du «lone-pair» de l'atome d'oxygène. L'eau est inclue dans la corrélation de même que lether le plus simple. On trouve qu'avec bonne approximationE _I =10,00+ 2,57 ^* ouE _I =12,59+28,0 _I .

Association of brain glycoprotein (NSA 3) with neuronal membranes and with the nodes of Ranvier]

The localisation of brain glycoprotein NSA 3 was studied by means of indirect immunofluorescence on alcohol fixed, paraffin embedded sections of Rat brain. These techniques allowed the localisation of NSA 3 to the membrane of some (about 10%) of the neurons. In the white matter, the patterns were in agreement with the localisation of the Ranvier nodes. The nodes of Ranvier were also stained in peripheral nerves.     

Cardiac muscle and liver ribosomes of the rat: the influence of laparotomy and laparotomy combined with adrenalectomy

Zusammenfassung Nach doppelseitiger Adrenalektomie nimmt der Ribosomengehalt in Leber und Herzmuskel ab. Die Fähigkeit dieser Ribosomen zur Inkorporation von Phenylalanin wird nachgewiesen.     

Architectonical and volumetrical investigations on the thalamus of the cetacea in comparison with the human brain

Zusammenfassung Der Thalamus — insbesondere der Nucleus anterior thalami — einiger Cetacea wird architektonisch und volumetrisch untersucht. Die Ergebnisse werden mit den Befunden beim Menschen verglichen. Der Nucleus anterior thalami ist bei den untersuchten Cetacea stark reduziert. Die geringere numerische Nervenzelldichte der Cetacea wird durch das grössere Volumen ihrer Nervenzellen kompensiert. Die Gliazelldichte ist bei den Cetacea höher als beim Menschen.
