2008 Graduate Student Spring Commencement Ceremony

Tsinghua University＇s 2008 Spring Graduate Commencement Ceremony was held in Tsinghua＇s Auditorium on the morning of January 21st, 2008. More than 1000 graduate students received degrees. Among them, 356 were awarded doctorates and 1185 master＇s degrees. President of Tsinghua and Chairman of the Degree Conferral Com- mittee Gu Binglin, Chen Xi, Chairman of the University Council, as well as other officers of Tsinghua University attended the ceremony and awarded diplomas to the students. President Gu delivered a speech at the ceremony. On behalf of the University, he extended warmest congratulations to the seated graduates and commended them for their hard work and contributions to the development of the academic atmosphere at Tsinghua.     

Boeing and Tsinghua Sign Collaborative Agreement

A collaborative agreement was recently signed between Tsinghua and the Boeing Company. Mr. Don Winter, Boeing＇s Vice President of Engineering and Information Technology in Advanced R＆D unit, Mr. Wang Jianmin, President of Boeing （China）, Tsinghua Vice President Kang Kejun, and Professor Niu Zhisheng, Vice Chair of the School of Information Science and Technology, attended the signing ceremony.     

Professor Jun Murai Appointed Guest Professor of Tsinghua

Professor Jun Murai, distinguished IT expert in Japan and Vice President of Keio University, was appointed Tsinghua Guest Professor on December 10, 2007. Tsinghua Deputy Vice President He Jiankun attended the conferral ceremony and presented the honorary appointment book to Professor Jun Murai. Professor Sun Jiaguang, Dean of School of Information Science and Technology, also attended the ceremony. ＂In the course of building the university into a world class university, we are keen on exchanging views and resources with other distinguished universities and scholars in the world,＂ said Deputy Vice President He. After the conferral ceremony, Professor Jun Murai delivered a speech on the Next Generation Internet. Professor Jun Murai is the Japan＇s foremost IT expert and most authoritative policy-maker on informatization and industrialization. He has made significant contributions to internet development in Japan and the Asia Pacific Region and received many awards from international organizations and the Japanese government.

Three Tsinghua University Faculty Honored as ＂Renowned Teacher of the Nation＂

China＇s Ministry of Education recently honored three Tsinghua University faculty members with the prestigious Renowned Teacher of the Nation Award. The winners of the award are Professor Qian Yi, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Professor Liu Guanzhong from the Academy of Arts and Design, and Professor Hua Chengying from the Department of Automation. A total often Tsinghua teachers have won the award since its inception three years ago.

Brief Biography of Professor Jibin Li

Dr. Jia Li is Professor and Chairman at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, the University of Alabama in Huntsville in U. S. A. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1987 at the University of Tennessee, and worked as Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Nonlinear Studies and Theoretical Division at the Los Alamos National Laboratory before joining the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Norway＇s Prime Minister Visiting Tsinghua University

Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg of Norway visited Tsinghua on March 27. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin welcomed Mr. Stoltenberg. 正Professor Wang Qingwen was born in Shandong,China.He received his PhD degree in Mathematics from University of Science and Technology of China.Since 2004,he has worked as a Full Professor and the Chair of the Department of Mathematics,Shanghai University,China.Professor Wang has several visiting professor positions at other institutions including National University of Singapore

Todai Week at Tsinghua

＂Todai Week at Tsinghua＂, a major communication event between Tsinghua University and the University of Tokyo （Todai）, started May 19. The University of Tokyo is the first partner institution in Asia with which Tsinghua has cooperated to hold a University Week event.
