Forty Years Research of Faster-Than-Light——Review and Prospects

Since the early work of O. M. Bilanuik and B. C. Sudarshan in 1962 and G. Feinberg in 1967, the research work on the faster-than-light (superluminal) has been performed in the world, such as in USA, Europe and China. In this paper, the development stages of the study are presented, which include beginning stage, transitional stage and experimental stage. Based on the Einstein‘s paper in 1905, the velocities greater than that of light had no possibility of existence. However, in the Einstein‘s papers of 1907 it was founded that the superluminal signal speed could not be refuted absolutely. In this paper, the studies on velocities are classified. The definition of General Information Speed is suggested, which will ease the discussion. After reviewing the researches of 1962-2004, it can be concluded that the faster-than-light is a realizable scientific statement.     

Solvent effects on infrared spectra of 2—Methyl—4,5—dimethoxy—3—oxo—2H—Pyridizine：Part 2.Binary Solvent SYstems

This research on the solvent effects of 2-methyl-4,5-dimethoxy-3-oxo-2H-pyridizine(MDOP) in binary solvent systems on the infrared spectra for MDOP in n-hexane/CHCl3 mixture solvents showed that there were three forms of carbonyl stretching vibration band[v(C=O)] of MPOP as mole fraction of CHCl3 in the binary solvents changes.In pure n-hexane solvent,the v(C=O) of MODP appeared at a relatively high wavenumber.With CHCl3 added,the v(C=O) shifted to lower wavenumbers.Two new bands were observed over a certain range of mixture solvent compositions.The origin of the bands was discussed in the terms of two kinds of hydrogen bond together with their individual dependence on mixture composition.COmparisons were drawn for the solvent sensitivities of v(C=O) for propanone.     

P15——a new tumor suppressor gene

In addition to the tumor suppressor genes such as Rb and p53, it has been found that some molecules of the same class named CKI (cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor) also play an important role in the inhibition of tumorigenesis and the tumor progression. In the KIP and INK4 families of CKIs, p15 shares extensive homology with p16. Findings in many tumors and their cell lines show that the inactivation of p15 (deletion, mutation, rearrangement, etc.) is very frequent, and inactive p15 is involved in the progress of some tumors. These studies provide evidence that the p15 is a new tumor suppressor gene. Furthermore, the research on the molecular mechanism of p15 in regulation of cell proliferation shows that p15 can inhibit the growth of some kinds of tumor cells, and p15 is the mediator of TGF-β-induced cell arrest. Investigations on p15 in cell differentiation suggest that increased p15 is related to the change of malignant phenotype. These results supply clues for further interpretation about the molecular mechnism of cell cycle control and cell tumorigenesis. And they may provide theoretical and experimental basis for application of p15 to clinical therapy of tumors.     

STRUCTURE-PROPERTY RELATIONSHIP OF THERMOPLASTIC ELASTOMERS——BLOCK COPOLYMERS

Block copolymers are marked by alternation of hard blocks and soft blocks, whereby the hard blocks are believed to form crystalline domains in non-crystalline matrix formed by aggregation of the soft blocks and a fraction of the hard blocks escaping crystallization. On the basis of this two-phase model a number of studies has been made varying the nature and length of hard and soft blocks. After reviewing some papers published in this field, it may be concluded that the system in which properties of thermoplastic elastomers are exhibited can be generally divided into three catalogues, they are polyurethane, polyether-ester, polyesteramide elastomers. Structure-property relationship of these thermoplastic elastomers are given in this paper.

Liquid fragility——A key togoing deep into materials of glassy states

“Liquid fragility“ is a concept that has been widely used in the investigation on the glass community,though it was presented less than two decades ago. The concept enables the comparison between the glass-forming liquids with different dynamic characters by using a general criterion, in which the temperature scale is reduced by the glass transition temperature. In order to illuminate the significance of the concept in the fields of the glass transition,structural relaxation process and the structure of supercooled liquids, the accomplished progress and the faced challenges are summarized from different aspects such as on the correlation between dynamics and thermodynamic characters of condensed matters, on the energy landscape, on the nonexponential relaxation and on the theoretical model of microstructure and medium-range order. The tendency of investigation in “liquid fragility“ is also evaluated.     

To Introduce a Cultural Sense in Translation——A Brief Study of Non-equivalence in the Associated Meanings of English and Chinese Words

This paper attempts to demonstrate the importance of introducing cultural sense in translation practice, English to Chinese in particular, by examining the problem of non-equivalence at word level in associated meanings and to unveil the cultural aspects projected within. It is also argued that greater importance should be attached to the cultural perspectives in translation and flexible strategies should be adopted in dealing with the problems of non-equivalence in the associated meanings of words of different cultures.

A two—dimensional molecular dynamics simulation of liquid—vapor nucleation

The molecular dynamics method is employed to simulate the liquid-vapor nucleation processes.The results show that the initial stage of nucleus in nucleation process is cavity or space containing very few vapor molecules.Because of the very limited size of the simulation domain in previous reports,further growth of the nucleus has not been realized.Large scale molecular dynamics simulation of liquid-vapor nucleation in dicates that the liquid-vapor nucleation process undergoes at least three stages:cavity growth,cavity coales-cence,bubble formation.     

Active Tracking with Pan—Tilt—Zoom Camera

This paper intends to introduce the active vision system with autonomous robot competition in the background.It presents some characteristics of the human oculomotor system in active machine vision system:smooth pursuit and saccade.Besides,zoom tracking is used to continuous adjustment of a camera′s focal length to keep a constant sized image of an object moving along the camera′s optical axis.Experiments indicate the technology to be efficient for tracking the ball in the robot competition.     

Corrosion Protection Properties of Organofunctional Silanes——An Overview

The aim of this paper is to review the development and state of the art in the application of certain organosilicon compounds known as trialkoxysilanes （or simply silanes） to the problems of the metal finishing industry. The ultimate goal of this work is the replacement of chromate passivation and paint pretreatments, as well as overcoming the shortcomings of organic coatings formulated in the modern environmentally friendly world, thus without chromate or chromated pigments, volatile organic carbon （VOC） containing compounds or harazardous air pollutants （HAPs）.     

Computation of one—dimensional consolidation of double layered ground using differential quadrature method

The authors give the solution to the problem of one-dimensional consolidation of double-layered ground with the use of the differential quadrature meahod.Case studies showed that the computational results for pore-water pressure in soil layer agreed with those of analytical solution;and that in the computationsl re-sults for the interface of soil lwyer also agreed with those of the analytical solution except for the small discrep-ancies during shortly after the start of computation.The advantages of the solution presented in this paper are that compared with the analytical solution,it avoids the cumbersome work in solving the transcendental equation for eigenvalues,and in the case of the Laplace transform solution,it can resolve the precision prob-lem in the numerical solution of long time inverse Laplace transform.Because of the matrix form of the solution in this paper,it is convenient for formulation computational program for engineering practice.The formulas for calculating double-layered ground consolidation may be easily extended to the case of multi-layered soils.     

Carbazole—containing light—emitting polymers：Properties of excited states

A series of light-emitting conjugated polymers alternatively involving carbazole and bivinylene arylene moieties in the main chain were synthesized via Wit-tig-Horner type copolymerization.The photoinduced charge transfer process relating to these polymers was investigated by using the technique of fluorescence spectroscopy.The interaction between excited copolymers and C60 in benzene solution was studied.The fluorescence quenching can be well described by the “sphere-of-action” mechanism.It is be-lieved that two basic steps are involved in the quenching process,i.e. the diffusion of excitation within the comjugated polymers and the dissociation of the exctions trapped by fullerene,The radius of the sphere-of-action can be related to the excitation diffusion length,which depends on the lifetime of the exciton.The dynamic fluorescence quenching of the copolymers by another quencher,1,4-dicyanobenzene(DCB) was also surveyed.Copolymers with different chain confor-mations show different temperature effects in the dynamic quenching.A planar conformation is beneficial for the quenching via bimolecular collision.

Control of coupling among three major factors for formation of high-efficiency gas reservoir——A case study on the oolitic beach gas reservoir in Feixianguan Formation in the northeast Sichuan Basin

Through a case study of the high-efficiency gas reservoir in Feixianguan Formation in the northeast Sichuan Basin, quantitative and semi-quantitative analyses of key elements such as hydrocarbon generation, migration and accumulation, and reservoir evolution as well as their interplay in the critical moment of reservoir formation controlled by the energy field were carried out, by means of numerical modeling of the energy field. It was found that the climax time for Permian hydrocarbon generation was Late Triassic-Early Jurassic and accumulation of oil and gas has resulted in large-scale paleoreservoirs in paleostructural traps in Feixianguan Formation, a process facilitated by fractures connecting the sources. The paleoreservoirs have been turned into high-efficiency gas kitchens due to pyrolysis, which resulted from deep burial at a temperature of 170―210 ℃ as induced by tremendously thick sedimentation in the foreland basin of Daba Mountain in Late Jurassic-Cretaceous period. Meanwhile, abundant acid gas like H2S produced from thermo-chemical sulfate reduction (TSR) at high temperatures leads to extensive dissolution of dolostone in the paleoreservoirs, which may in turn result in modification of the reservoirs and preservation of the reservoir rock porosity. The present distribution of gas reservoirs was ultimately determined in the processes of adjustment, cooling and decompression of the paleoreservoirs resulting from intense deformation in the front of Daba Mountain during the Himalayan orogeny.
