Interastrocytic gap junctions in the blood-brain barrier of the experimental penumbra area were studied in the cat caudate nucleus 1 h after ischemia. Transmission electron microscopy and freeze-fracture studies revealed only slight changes in gap junctions between astrocytes, indicating that these junctions are very resistant to hypoxia.  相似文献

Typus. Es ist wahrscheinlich, dass die Windungen der beiden Filamente in der entgegengesetzten Richtung ranken.

Summary An unusual cell type consisting of free elements widely scattered over the marginal epithelium of the rat pituitary cleft is revealed by SEM. Most of these supramarginal cells characteristically have irregularly shaped cell bodies from which thin branched processes extend. Supramarginal cells bear resemblances to Kolmer (epiplexus) cells and to supraependymal cells of the brain ventricles. Their ultrastructural features make it probable that supramarginal cells are phagocytes, and can be regarded as scavengers of the cleft. Considering the close topographical association between the hypophysial cleft and the floor or the 3rd ventricle, supramarginal cells may be members of the motile macrophagic Kolmer cells populating the ventricular surfaces of the brain.Work supported by grants from MPI-60%-193/84  相似文献

The structure was identified by transmission microscopy as a long telophase bridge containing mid-body and spindle remnant. Scanning transmission electron microscopy of the dendritic spines of multipolar neurons in the cat inferior Colliculus was achieved on Golgi semi-thin sections. The three basic types of dendritic spines (ST, MS, TH) were identified. Scanning transmission electron microscopy provides a reliable method for a three dimensional view of these structures at high resolution and consequently a more accurate appreciation of their size. In addition, it could prove very useful in the quantitative analysis of the dendritic spines.  相似文献

Summary Rexeptors for various lectins have been located on isolated hepatocytes by transmission and scanning electron microscopy, using gold markers of variable sizes. Summary In addition to several anomalous structures, other general forms of definitely rod-shaped microorganisms have been found by scanning and transmission electron microscopy in the lung tissue taken at autopsy from a patient who succumbed to confirmed Legionnaires' disease with extensive necrotizing lobar pneumonia. The microorganisms were greatly varied in size and shape. They were micrographed in the act of fission. These forms have been found to some extent throughout the tissue. No nickel was demonstrated, either in the lung tissue or in the microorganisms.This work has been supported in part by a Henry Ford Hospital institutional grant from the Ford Foundation and in part by the Veterans Administration Medical Center Research Funds.  相似文献

Regulation of bone homeostasis depends on the concerted actions of bone-forming osteoblasts and bone-resorbing osteoclasts, controlled by osteocytes, cells derived from osteoblasts surrounded by bone matrix. The control of differentiation, viability and function of bone cells relies on the presence of connexins. Connexin43 regulates the expression of genes required for osteoblast and osteoclast differentiation directly or by changing the levels of osteocytic genes, and connexin45 may oppose connexin43 actions in osteoblastic cells. Connexin37 is required for osteoclast differentiation and its deletion results in increased bone mass. Less is known on the role of connexins in cartilage, ligaments and tendons. Connexin43, connexin45, connexin32, connexin46 and connexin29 are expressed in chondrocytes, while connexin43 and connexin32 are expressed in ligaments and tendons. Similarly, although the expression of pannexin1, pannexin2 and pannexin3 has been demonstrated in bone and cartilage cells, their function in these tissues is not fully understood.  相似文献

High resolution electron microscopy now makes it possible to use an original method for measuring biological apatite crystals. The crystals of intertubular sound dentine have an average width of 296 A (standard deviation: 37) and an average thickness of 32 A (standard deviation: 5). During the course of so-called arrested caries, crystals get twice as thick compared to those sound dentine, whereas their width remains unchanged.  相似文献

Summary The passage of 6 model drugs; acetylsalicylic acid, chloramphenicol, ethimizol, carbisocaine, heptacaine, and diazepam, through the blood-brain barrier, was determined in unirradiated control rats and in animals 1, 3, and 7 days after irradiation of the head only with a dose of 25 Gy from a60Co source. The brain uptake index (BUI), which compares the uptake of the test substance with that of3H2O 5 s after their injection into the common carotid artery, was significantly increased in comparison with unirradiated controls 7 days after irradiation, for all substances tested except for ethimizol. For acetylsalicylic acid and chloramphenicol it was also significantly increased in the other time intervals. The less lipophilic substances showed a greater relative increase of BUI than the more lipophilic ones.  相似文献
