The electrophoretic distribution of protein-bound carbohydrates in asthma bronchiale

Zusammenfassung Bei Asthma bronchiale wurde in annähernd der Hälfte der Fälle die Verteilung der Polysaccharidproteine nach dem «albuminotropen Typ» gefunden. Derselbe ist in der Regel bei allergischen Zuständen nicht vorhanden und kann als elektrophoretische Abweichung der Antikörper interpretiert werden.     

Statistical study of the primary asymmetry in primordial germ cells distribution in the chick embryo]

Statistical analysis of quantitative data obtained from a population of 493 chick embryos shows that the degree of primary asymmetry of PGC distribution in favour of the left side of the embryo is highly significant. Our previously published kinetic interpretation of the same data is confirmed and the origin of the primary asymmetry is discussed.     

Histological changes in the intestinal tract of pregnant mice infected with Coxsackievirus B3

Zusammenfassung Bei graviden, mit Coxsackie-Virus B3 infizierten Mäusen war der obere Darmabschnitt im Vergleich mit den Kontrolltieren makroskopisch unverändert. Im Ileum, Coecum and Colon ascendens war bei einer Dilatation ein Oedem der Lamina propria mit Zellinfiltrat vorhanden, während die Mucosa vereinfacht war. Ein Zusammenhang mit Pankreasveränderungen wird als möglich angenommen.

The distribution of argentaffin cells in the gastrointestinal tract of the sulfamerazine treated rat

Studies on the mechanisms of neurulation in the chick: The intracellular distribution of Ca++1

Summary Coated vesicles were found to accumulate Ca⁺⁺ in neuroepithelial cells and may play a role in regulating the contractile activities of apical microfilament bundles during uplifting of neural folds in the chick.This study was supported in part by grants from the Research Council and the Charles and Johanna Busch Memorial Fund of Rutgers University.     

The cause of the primary asymmetry of germ cell distribution in the gonadal primordia of chick embryo]

The primary asymmetry of the distribution of PGCs in the germinal epithelia of the chick embryo is the result of a numerically unequal distribution of these cells in the left and right vascular networks. A statistical proportionality exists between the increases in the degree of primary asymmetry and those in the degree of asymmetry of distribution in the circulation.     

Primary asymmetry in the distribution of primordial germ cells during colonization of gonadal buds in chick embryo]

Analysis of the numerical data obtained from a population of 529 chick embryos, selected according to their stage of development, shows that the primary distribution of PGC is asymmetric with a bias towards the left side. The kinetics of the colonisation process are in conformity with the law of logistic growth: the number of PGC settling in the germinal epithelia tends to an upper limit not exceeding the number of PGC identifiable in the anterior germinal crescent. Taking the embryo population as a whole, the degree of primary asymmetry at the end of colonisation is such that 56% of the total number PGC fixed in the gonadial primordia are found in the left epithelia.     

Aeromonas caviae: ecologic adaptation in the intestinal tract of infants coupled to adherence and enterotoxin production as factors in enteropathogenicity

Aeromonas caviae isolated from stools of diarrheic formula-fed infants and environmental sources produce acetic acid when grown in glucose broth, which is bactericidal (suicide phenomenon). A. caviae grows anaerobically in a minimal medium or under permissive conditions such as the intestinal tract of formula-fed infants. These isolates adhered to HEp-2 cells and produced a cytotoxic and a cytotonic enterotoxin which underscore their enteropathogenicity.     

Direct evidence favouring the notion that erythropoietin alters iron transport across the isolated intestinal tract of the rat

Summary A simple and reproducible method, using the isolated not everted intestine of the rat, for the study of iron transport is presented. Comparative distribution of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), substance P and PHI in the enteric sphincters of the cat

In the feline gastrointestinal tract, the neuropeptides, substance P, VIP and PHI were investigated by specific radioimmunoassays and immunocytochemistry. The concentrations of all 3 peptides and the level of peptidergic innervation were significantly less in the anal sphincter than elsewhere, whereas no significant differences were seen between other sphincter and non-sphincter regions.
