Zusammenfassung Trogoderma-Larven reagieren auf verschiedenartige Kohlehydrate verschieden. Disaccharide erweisen sich als die besten, Trisaccharide, Stärke und Hexosen als ziemlich gute, Pentosen und Zuckeralkohole als sehr schlechte Kohlehydratquellen.     

Influence of larval diapause on pheromone communication in the khapra beetle,Trogoderma granarium everts

Summary InTrogoderma granarium, induction of larval diapause by sub-optimal temperature enhanced the efficiency of pheromone perception by adult males. Such diapause also altered the pattern of pheromone production by females.     

The sterols of the khapra beetle,Trogoderma granarium everts

Summary The khapra beetle,Trogoderma granarium Everts, does not dealkylate and convert dietary C₂₈- or C₂₉-phytostorols to C _2T sterols such as cholesterol. There is, however, an increase in the concentration of cholesterol and campesterol in its tissues relative to the dietary concentrations of these sterols, presumably as a result of selective uptake.We thank Dr S. The khapra beetle, Trogoderma granarium Everts, does not dealkylate and convert dietary C28- or C29-Phytosterols to C27-sterols such as cholesterol. There is, however, an increase in the concentration of cholesterol and campesterol in its tissues relative to the dietary concentrations of these sterols, presumably as a result of selective uptake.

Summary Metabolic studies in which³H-sitosterol,³H-stigmasterol, and¹⁴C-desmosterol were administered by feeding and injection to the khapra beetle,Trogoderma granarium Everts, provided strong evidence that this insect is unable to dealkylate phytosterols and convert them to cholesterol.

Riassunto Sono stati determinati 14 aminoacidi liberi nell'emolinfa: di cssi acido glutamico, glicina e prolina rappresentano insieme il 50% e più del contenuto totale. Le ninfe verdi contengono meno glicina e acido aspartico e più treonina e fenilalanina in confronto alle ninfe brune. Gli individui adulti mostrano in contenuto relativo di aminoacidi diverso dalle ninfe e fra i due sessi. Somministrazione di triptofano a ninfe brune non ha dato variazioni negli aminoacidi liberi, non aumento dell'aminoacido stesso, né presenza di prodotti del suo metabolismo nel sangue.

Zusammenfassung Zweidimensionale Chromatographie der Hoden vonG. africana ergibt das Vorkommen von elf Aminosäuren: Leucin (Isoleucin), Valin, Prolin, Tyrosin, Alanin, Glycin, Serin, Glutaminsäure und Asparaginsäure. Höchste Konzentration fand sich bei Prolin und Asparaginsäure, niedrigste bei Serin und Tyrosin.     

Free amino acids in the haemolymph ofEoperipatur weldoni (onychophora)

Zusammenfassung Mit der Methodk nach Folin und Spackmann wurden die Freien Aminosäuren in der Hämolymphe vonEoperipatus weldoni festgestellt und in ihrer Gesamtkonzentration mit den Aminosären der Myriapoden und primitiven hemimetabolischen Insekten vergleichbar gefunden.

Free amino acid composition of the hemolymph of the larval blackflySimulium venustum (Diptera: Simuliidae)

Zusammenfassung Nachweis, dass die Aminosäure-Zusammensetzung der Hämolymphe vonSimuliumvenustum-Larven total 39.3±1.3 mg Amino N pro 100 ml enthält, wobei als hauptsächliche Ninhydrinpositive Bestandteile der Hämolymphe Alanin, Asparagin, Asparaginsäure, Dioxyphenylalanin, Äthanolanin, Glutaminsäure, Glutamin, Glycin, Histidin, Phenylalanin und Serin gefunden wurden, während nur kleine Mengen von Tyrosin, Halb-Cystin und Cystathion festgestellt wurden.     

Free amino acids in the adult citrus brown mite,Eutetranychus orientalis (Klein)

Summary Amino acids contained in extracts of adultEutetranychus orientalis were separated and determined quantitatively by 2-dimensional paper chromatography. 14 amino acids were identified. Asparagine, ornithine, histidine, lysine, aspartic acid, serine and glycine were the major components of the free amino acid pool, comprising 83.94% of the total content.     

Characterization of free amino acids in the hemolymph ofAchaea janata L. larvae (Lep.Noctuidae)

Summary 19 free amino acids were separated and quantified from the hemolymph of 5th instar larvae of the mothAchaea janata. Proline, histidine, threonine/glutamine/asparagine, lysine, valine and serine were the predominant amino acids in the hemolymph. Changes in amino acid concentration are discussed in relation to metabolic and other physiological activities.Acknowledgment. Y.P. On the intraganglionic neurohaemal organs in the ventral nerve cord ofHydrophilus olivaceus (Hydrophilidae. Coleoptera)

Zusammenfassung Aufgrund von Lage, Grösse und färberischem Verhalten können in der ventralen Ganglienkette des KäfersHydrophilus olivaceus 3 Typen von neurosekretorischen Zellen (A₁, A₂, B) unterschieden werden. Die Axone der in allen Ganglien vorkommenden A₂-Zellen führen im Suboesophagealganglion und in den Thoracalganglien zu paraldehydfuchsinpositiven Bezirken, aus denen umgekehrt perlschnurartig mit Neurosekreten gefüllte Nervenfasern zu den Lateralnerven führen. Die fuchsinophilen Bezirke werden als intraganglionäre Neurohaemalorgane interpretiert.
