Alteration of early T lymphocyte count in patients with herpes genitalis

Summary Peripheral blood samples from 52 women, including 16 with herpes genitalis and 36 healthy persons, were studied to enumerate subpopulations of lymphocytes. It was found that the mean percentage of active T lymphocytes was significantly less in the patients with herpes genitalis than in the controls.Acknowledgment. The IgG, IgA and IgM synthesis by adult peripheral blood and cord blood lymphocytes incubated alone and with pokeweed mitogen was quantitated. The cord blood lymphocytes produced no immunoglobulin even with mitogen stimulation while the adult peripheral blood lymphocytes responded to the mitogen with a significant (p less than 0.04) increase in immunoglobulin production.

Studies on the relationships between biotin and the behaviour of B and T lymphocytes in the guinea-pig

Summary In biotin-deficient guinea-pigs the number of circulating neutrophils is increased; lymphocytes carrying B and T markers are decreased. Incubation with biotin increases significantly the number of lymphocytes carrying B and T markers, from biotin-deficient guinea-pigs; no increase was observed when the lymphocytes from normal guinea-pigs were incubated.     

A population of human lymphocytes staining for esterases

Summary A population of lymphocytes is found to stain positively for esterases. The positively staining lymphocytes are more predominant among T than B lymphocytes and are significantly increased on stimulation with PHA. Treatment with cholinestrase inhibitors reduces their number significantly.This work was supported by a grant from the Medical Research Council of Canada.     

Nonspecific esterase activity in monkey thymus lymphocytes; study of distribution in lymphocyte subpopulation

Summary A subpopulation of monkey thymus lymphocytes was investigated by direct nonspecific esterase staining of Erosette forming lymphocytes. The environment in which lymphocytes differentiate influences their ability to cooperate in vivo.

Whether or not parental B lymphocytes cooperate with F1 T lymphocytes depends upon the environment in which parental bone marrow cells differentiate. Only those parental B lymphocytes that have differentiated in the F1 environment are able to cooperate with F1 T lymphocytes.     

Somatostatin reduces the release of colony-stimulating activity (CSA) from PHA-activated mouse spleen lymphocytes.

PHA-activated lymphocytes release colony-stimulating activity (CSA) for macrophage-granulocyte precursor cells (colony forming units, CFUc) in the culture medium. Somatostatin, known to interfer with ribosomal protein synthesis, was demonstrated to reduce the release of CSA from PHA-treated mouse spleen lymphocytes.     

PD-L1在人子宫颈癌细胞异常表达并促T细胞凋亡

目的 探讨人子宫颈癌中负性协同刺激分子PD-L1的表达和它与肿瘤浸润淋巴细胞的关系以及PD-L1融合蛋白促宫颈癌患者外周血活化T细胞凋亡的作用.方法 采用免疫组化S-P法检测67例宫颈癌组织及20例正常宫颈组织中PD-L1的表达,分析PD-L1同临床病理特征的相关性,免疫荧光观察肿瘤浸润淋巴细胞数量,TUNEL法检测T细胞凋亡,体外实验将PD-L1融合蛋白细胞加入PHA刺激活化的宫颈癌患者外周血T细胞中共同培养,流式细胞术分析T细胞凋亡率和CD8+/CD4+T细胞比例.结论 正常子宫颈组织不表达PD-L1;宫颈癌组织中PD-L1的表达率为70％.宫颈癌PD-L1的表达与宫颈癌浸润深度相关(P＜0.05).PD-L1阳性病例肿瘤局部浸润淋巴细胞存在凋亡且CD8+T细胞数量明显减少;PD-L1融合蛋白组T细胞凋亡率明显高于抗PD-1组和空白对照组T细胞,分别为32.7％、18.3％和17.9％;CD8+T/CD4+T细胞的比值低于加入抗PD-1组和空白对照组,分别为0.864、0.894和0 907.结论 PD-L1在子宫颈癌中高表达且与肿瘤浸润程度及肿瘤浸润淋巴细胞数量减少有关,PD-L1能促进活化的T细胞尤其是CD8+T细胞的凋亡.     

Antigenic correlation between rat brain synaptic vesicles and rat bone marrow B lymphocytes

Summary Rabbit anti-rat brain synaptic vesicle serum reacted with thymocytes and B lymphocytes in cytotoxicity and immunofluorescence assays. Quantitative absorption analysis revealed that this antiserum contained antibodies specific for antigenic determinants on the surface membrane of a subpopulation of rat bone marrow B lymphocytes.This work was supported by the Republic of Serbia Research Fund, Belgrade.     

Stimulation of peripheral guinea pig blood lymphocytes by autologous epidermal cells]

Using a strictly autologous (and not syngeneic) mixed culture system in the guinea-pig, it was shown that Mitomycin C treated ear epidermal cells (E) were capable of stimulating peripheral blood lymphocytes (L) from the same animal. The proliferative response of the lymphocytes as measured by 3H thymidine incorporation, is optimal on the 5th day of culture, and when the ratio of the concentrations of the two cell populations (L : E) is 1 : 1. The autoreactivity of the lymphocytes varies with the animal.     

Early B lymphocytes in man

Summary We have confirmed in man the presence of a subpopulation of B lymphocytes which cannot reexpress their immunological receptors after challenge with antibodies. These early B lymphocytes were studied in peripheral blood, in cord blood and also, with anti-idiotypic sera, in the peripheral blood of a myeloma patient.Acknowledgments. Receptors for cytomegaloviruses on the surface of human lymphocytes]

The relationships between cytomegalovirus (CMV) and lymphocytes have already been noted because of: (a) the immunological abnormalities induced by this virus, and (b) activation of latent CMV in the course of lymphocyte reactions associated with anti-histocompatibility antigen immune response. The present work shows that the lymphocyte surface may have specific receptors for CMV. Cultured fibroblasts infected with DMV were incubated with lymphocytes isolated from the blood of human immune subjects. Rosettes defined by the adherence of three or more lymphocytes around a fibroblast were formed in infected preparation while no rosettes were seen with normal control fibroblasts. Approximately 1.2 per cent of lymphocytes were involved in the formation of these rosettes. Rosette formation is inhibited when infected fibroblasts have been incubated with anti-CMV antibodies prior to the addition of lymphocytes.

Ribonuclease activity directed against the synthetic duplex polyrC:polyI was detected in nuclear extracts from both unstimulated and PHA-stimulated human lymphocytes. In the latter cells, the activity was about twice that of small lymphocytes.

alpha-Mercaptopropionyl-glycine influence on the in vitro proliferative response of human lymphocytes.

The effect of alpha-mercaptopropinyl-glycine on the in vitro proliferative response of healthy subjects' lymphocytes was studied. Low doses of the drug enhanced spontaneous lymphocyte blastigenesis but had no effect on the PHA-induced blastic response. With increasing concentrations of alpha-mercaptopropionyl-glycine inhibition of 3H-thymidine incorporation was found in unstimulated as well as in PHA stimulated lymphocytes.     

Changes in the plasma membrane surface of lymphocytes stimulated in vivo with DNCB

Summary Stereological principles have been used to evaluate ultrastructural changes which accompany the transformation of lymphocytes stimulated in vivo with dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB). Whereas unstimulated lymphocytes and blast cells have slightly more than the minimal containing plasmalemmal surface for their volume, stimulated (blast-derived) lymphocytes have an excess surface area in the order of 30%. This observation is discussed in the context of altered cell function and the biosynthesis of additional membrane components.We wish to thank Prof. R. Isoenzymes of creatine phosphokinase in white blood cells
