Sasquaperla Hoopa , a new stonefly genus and species from northern California (Plecoptera: Chloroperlidae)

Sasquaperla hoopa , a new genus and species of Chloroperlidae, is described from adults and preemergent nymphs collected in the Coast Range of northern California. Males are characterized by the epiproct reduced to a small, tablike structure bearing stiff hairs in a narrow band along the posterior margin. Females are similar to those of Sweltsa , but the nymphs bear several erect bristles lateral to depressed hair patches on the mesosternum. Modified keys are presented for adults and nymphs.     

Two new species of Chloroperlidae (Plecoptera) from California

Suwallia sierra and Sweltsa pisteri are described as new species in the family Chloroperlidae from California, USA. Illustrations of the male terminalia of both species and the female and egg of S. sierra are presented. In addition, detailed figures of the epiproct of 2 similar species, Sweltsa townsei and Sweltsa resima , are included. Diagnoses provided comparing the new taxa with related species. Observations indicate that S. sierra may belong to the same clade as the genus Neaviperla .     

Hesperoperla hoguei, a new species of stonefly from California (Plecoptera: Perlidae)

A new species of Hesperoperla is named from northern California. The adult male and female, nymph, and egg are described and figured. Hesperoperla hoguei adds a second species to this previously monotypic genus.     

Paraleuctra cervicornis (Plecoptera: Leuctridae), a new stonefly from China

A new species, Paraleuctra cervicornis Du and Qian, from Sichuan, China is described and a key to males of four Chinese Paraleuctra is presented. Types of the new species are deposited in the Insect Collection of Yangzhou University.     

Records of stoneflies (Plecoptera) from Nevada

Distributional data are presented for 13 species of Nevada stoneflies including eight species new to the state list. A checklist of 30 species confirmed for Nevada is included.     

The stoneflies (Plecoptera) of Louisiana

A list of species, illustrated keys to nymphs and adults, distribution, and biological notes are presented for 24 stonefly species occurring in Louisiana. Leuctra moha?, Pteronarcys dorsata, Helopicus subvarians, Paragnetina kansensis, Paragnetina immarginata, Phasganophora capitata, and Acroneuria evoluta are recorded only from the florida parishes east of the Mississippi River. Isoperla Coushatta, Isoperla mohri, Neoperla clymene, an undescribed Neoperla (Sp. A), Paragnetina fumosa, Acroneuria abnormis, Acroneuria arenosa, Perlinella drymo, and Perlesta placida are found both east and west of the Mississippi; and Allocapnia granulata, Allocapnia malverna, Amphinemoura nigritta, and three species of Taeniopteryx have been recorded only west of the Mississippi. Habitats are primarily sand-bottomed streams of pine-hardwood rolling hills, constituting a portion of the western Gulf Coastal Plain. Few stoneflies occur in streams of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain, the Alluvial Atchafalaya Basin, or the lowlands along the Red River.     

New records of stoneflies (Plecoptera) from New Mexico

Distributional data are presented for 30 species of New Mexico Plecoptera including 8 species new to the state list. Previously, many of the included species were known from a single location in the state. A revised checklist of 46 confirmed species is presented for the state.

North American stoneflies (Plecoptera): systematics, distribution, and taxonomic references

A list of 537 Nearctic stonefly species is provided and distributions of all species are given by U.S. state and Canadian province. The list includes a bibliography of systematic and biogeographic papers published since the Zwick (1973) catalogue.     

A new genus and two new species of Parastenocarididae (Copepoda: Harpacticoida) from southeastern India

Indocaris gen. nov. with two new species, Indocaris imbricata sp. nov. and Indocaris inopinata sp. nov., and also for the already known Indocaris tirupatiensis (Ranga Reddy 2011a) comb. nov. – all from the groundwaters in peninsular India. The highly diagnostic synapomorphy of the new genus is a composite character associated with the male leg 4 basis: five or six prominent, imbricate, enlarged, petal-like spinules, arranged as a semi-whorl at the insertion of the endopod and increasing in size from internal to external. Another distinctive feature of the same appendage is that its one-segmented endopod is dilated or bulbous in the proximal half, produced distally into an incurved spiniform or horn-like structure about as long as the corresponding first exopodal segment, and ornamented with three or four fine spinules on the subproximal outer margin. The three species also share a unique constellation of other salient morphologic features, which along with the phylogenetic position of Indocaris gen. nov. within the family Parastenocarididae are discussed. Indocaris gen. nov. has closest phylogenetic affinity with the Neotropical Remaneicari Jakobi, 1972. A short note on the ecology and biogeography of the parastenocaridid species of the Indian subcontinent is provided besides a key for their identification.     

Emergence patterns of large stoneflies (Plecoptera: Pteronarcys, Calineuria, Hesperoperla ) in a Montana river

Emergents of Pteronarcys californica, Calineuria californica , and Hesperoperla pacifica were captured with replicated emergence traps at 3 sites along the banks of Rock Creek, Montana. Pteronarcys emergence in early June was short (88% of individuals in 6 d) and attained rates of 5 m -1 d -1 (shoreline distance) and cumulative densities up to 19 m -1 yr -1 . Calineuria emerged synchronously (89% in 9 d) 2 wk later at densities up to 7 m -1 d -1 and 40 m -1 yr -1 . The less numerous Hesperoperla (5 individual m -1 yr -1 ) had a longer emergence period partially coinciding with Calineuria Median males of Pteronarcys and Calineuria emerged 2-3 d before median females; protandry was not significant Hesperoperla . Sex ratios were female-biased in Pteronarcys and Hesperoperla but male-biased in Calineuria . Size trends through emergence were very weak although females showed a greater tendency towered larger size early in emergence.     

A new genus and two new species of Philotarsidae. (Insecta: Psocoptera) from East Africa

Summary

Genus Tarsophilus and its species lineatus and aequabilis (Insecta: Psocoptera: Philotarsidae) are described as new. The specimens, all males, were collected in highland areas of East Africa. The new genus is placed in Philotarsidae rather than Pseudocaeciliidae on characters of hypandrium, phallosome, and lacinial tip. Its position in the subfamily Philotarsinae is justified and it is compared to the other genera of this group on both male and on trans-sexual characters.     

Three new species of Nearctic Isoperla (Plecoptera)

Nymphs and adults of three new species of Isoperla are described from reared material. I. sagittata is known only from southeastern Texas, I. Coushatta has been collected in East Texas and Oklahoma, and I. jewetti occurs in the Basin and Range Mountains of West Texas. The male aedeagii, female subgenital plates, and nymphal mouthparts are diagnostic in all three species.     

A new genus and two new species of Argeiinae (Crustacea: Isopoda: Bopyridae) from the Indo-west Pacific

Three hosts from Indo-west Pacific including Kiribati, Guam Island and Australia were examined, and found to be infested by three species of the subfamily Argeiinae. We describe Paraeragia kiribatiensis gen. nov., sp. nov. from Kiribati infesting Synalpheus gracilirostris. The new genus is most related to Eragia and it can be distinguished by female with triangular pleon, lateral plates extend posteriorly, paired uropods, widely opened brood pouch. Argeiopsis guamensis sp. nov. from Guam Island infesting Synalpheus cf. stimpsoni. The new species is most similar to Argeiopsis inhacae but differs in female with curved posterior margin of first oostegite, partly fused pleomeres, and male with head separated from first pereomere, pleon as wide as seventh pereomere. We also record Stegoalpheon kempi from Australia for the first time, infesting Alpheus cf. perplexus. Keys to the nine genera of Argeiinae, and to three species of Argeiopsis are provided. A table for all 13 species of Argeiinae with localities and host records is also provided. A table comparing the distribution of lateral plates and morphology of pleopods and uropods among argeiine genera is presented.

New genus, Aplanusiella , and two new species of leafhoppers from southwestern United States (Homoptera: Cicadellidae: Deltocephalinae)

A new genus, Aplanusiella (type-species, Aplanusiella utahensis , n. sp.) and two new species, A. utahensis and A. californiensis , are described and illustrated. The two species are allopatric and coexist on the same host genus ( Atriplex ) with members of a closely allied leafhopper genus, Aplanus . Notes on distribution of hosts and leafhoppers as well as leafhopper intergenetic relationships are also given.
