Influence of thiol-inhibiting substances on the effects of ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS) on chromosomes

Résumé Des semences d'orge et des graines de fèverolle ont été traitées par des solutions de sublimé corrosif et d'un arsénoxyde avant traitement par du méthane sulfonate d'éthyl. Chacun des ions accroît considérablement les effets de l'EMS sur les chromosomes d'une manière dépendant du pH, de la concentration en ions et de la concentration en EMS.     

Comparative efficiency of arsenicals in modifying effects of ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS) on barley chromosomes

Résumé Des semences d'orge ont été traitées par 6 arsénoxydes (3 pentavalents, 1 trivalent, 2 molécules à doubles liaisons) avant d'être traitées par une solution de méthane sulfonate d'éthyl (EMS) à 0,3 g par 100 ml/3 h. Ces substances accroissent considérablement les taux d'aberrations des chromosomes normalement produits par l'EMS. Il s'agit principalement d'aberrations de types chromosomique et subchromatidique. Les dérivés trivalent et à double liaison sont les plus actifs. Le problème de l'inhibition d'enzymes à fonction -SH intervenant dans la genèse de ces aberrations est discuté.     

On combined effects of deoxyfluorouridine (FUDR) with radiations and ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS) on chromosomes

Résumé Des graines deNigella damascena et des graines d'orge ont été irradiés par les rayons du Co⁶⁰ ainsi que par des neutrons rapides. Ils ont ensuite été traités par la déoxyfluorouridine (FUDR) après différents temps de prégermination. On a observé que FUDR accroissait de manière nette les effets totaux des rayons sur les chromosomes (taux d'aberrations en anaphase). Par contre les effets des neutrons rapides n'ont été que faiblement modifés. Des effets synergiques ont également été obtenus chez l'orge après des traitements consécutifs FUDREMS.     

Time function of corticosteroid levels in the blood plasma of rats under the influence of 222Rn inhalation.

The time function of cortocosteroid level in plasma of rats under two different 222Rn concentrations was investigated. Both curves show a maximum after 8h. Whereas the higher activity of 222Rn produces a second maximum after 5 days, the lower activity reaches its second maximum not before 9 days. From both time functions, a two-step mechanism in the intracellular control can be concluded.     

Dial variations in the levels of blood glucose and hepatopancreatic glycogen in the slug,Laevicaulis alte (Ferussac 1821)

Summary InLaevicaulis alte maximal blood glucose level at 00.00 h alternates with minimal level at 12.00 h of the day, while hepatopancreatic glycogen showed an opposite trend. Variations in blood glucose levels are inversely proportional to the corresponding variations in hepatopancreatic glycogen content, while blood glucose level shoots up to a maximum, hepatopancreatic glycogen declines to a minimum and vice versa.Acknowledgment. The karyotypes of the Corsican and Sardinian mountain salamanders,Euproctus montanus andE. platycephalus (Urodela: Salamandridae)

Summary The chromosomes ofEuproctus montanus andE. platycephalus were studied by means of the C-banding method and the AS-SAT technique which are useful for identifying the single pairs of the complement and for recognizing nucleolar organizer regions. According to the morpho-structural characteristics shown by the specific karyotypes, it has been possible to draw some cytotaxonomic deductions concerning the karyological evolution within the insular group.This work was supported by grant CT 76.01271.04/115.3822 from C.N.R., Rome.     

Robertsonian chromosomal polymorphism in the mouse (M. musculus domesticus)

Zusammenfassung Hausmäuse (M. m. domesticus) aus dem Bergell/GR zeigen einen intraspezifischen Chromosomenpolymorphismus vomRobertson'schen Typ mit wenigstens zwei verschiedenen metazentrischen Chromosomen. Für eines dieser beiden Chromosomen konnte gezeigt werden, dass es von den sieben bei der Tabakmaus (M. poschiavinus) vorhandenen metazentrischen Chromosomen unabhängig ist. Ein für dieses Chromosom (T8Bnr) homozygoter Stamm auf dem Hintergrund der Laboratoriumsmaus wird für experimentelle Verwendung herausgezüchtet.

Effects of a definite stress on the enzyme activities in blood plasma in mice (author's transl)

The present study was designed to analyze the effects of a short term stress on the quantitative levels of alkaline phosphatase (AP), creatine phosphokinase (CK), aldolase (ALD), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and lactate dehydrogenase-1-isoenzyme (LDH 1) during 24 h after stress. For all the enzymes studied higher values for the activity were found due to stress in comparison to the activity level before the stress. The period during the 24 h after stress to reach maximum activity depends on the enzyme and in part on the sex of the animal.     

Effects of bromocriptine on plasma testosterone and gonadotropin levels and testicular lipid fractions in adult rats

Summary Bromocriptine treatment of adult male rats resulted in a decrease in testicular testosterone (T) content and a reduction in plasma T levels. This was accompanied by increase in testicular total lipids and cholesterol and depletion of testicular phospholipids.Acknowledgments. We thank Dr R. L. Effects ofβ-internal (P32) irradiation on the 5-HT content of CNS levels

Zusammenfassung Die interne-Bestrahlung in kleinen Dosen vergrössert den 5-Hydroxytryptamin-Inhalt des zentralen Nervensystems der Ratte: Gehirnrinde, Dyencephalus, Hypothalamus, Geruchbulbe, Mittelhirn und Rückenmark. Bei Experimenten mit höheren Dosen (über 500 rad) sinkt der 5-Hydroxytryptamin-Gehalt.

Effects of the antiprotease Trasylol on peripheral blood leucocytes.

Binding of the antiprotease Trasylol to human peripheral blood lymphocytes and polymorphonuclear leucocytes (PMNs) was demonstrated at the ultrastructural level using an indirect immunoperoxidase technique. This also revealed endocytosis of membrane bound Trasylol by PMNs. Trasylol inhibited PHA- and ConA-induced lymphocyte stimulation, and was cytotoxic to unstimulated cells.
