Zusammenfassung Die Synthese von (—)-¹⁽⁷⁾-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) auf (—)-¹⁽⁶⁾ wird beschrieben. Das Hauptprodukt der oxidativen Zerstörung von (—)-¹-THC ist Cannabinol. Beschleunigte Versuche der Luftoxidation von (—)-¹-THC und (—)-¹⁽⁶⁾-THC haben gezeigt, dass das letztere beständiger ist. Dieser Unterschied kann mit der Reaktivität des C₃-benzylisch-allylischen Wasserstoffes in (—)-¹-THC erklärt werden.     

Interaction of N-(DL-seryl)N′-(2,3,4-trihydroxybenzyl)-hydrazine with L-Dopa decarboxylase from pig kidney

Summary Interaction of seryl trihydroxy-benzyl-hydrazine with a highly purified preparation of Dopa decarboxylase from pig kidney has been studied. This compound was found not to be a powerful inhibitor in vitro. Kinetic and spectral data suggest some possibilities on the binding nature of the inhibitor and substrates.     

Evolution of vasopressins in marsupials: a new hormone, phenypressin (Phe2-Arg8-vasopressin), present in the Macropodidae

A duplication of the pressor hormone has been found in some marsupials, either American species belonging to the family Didelphidae or Australian species belonging to the family Macropodidae. Two pressor peptides, lysine vasopressin and phenypressin (Phe2-Arg8-vasopressin) have been chemically identified in the red Kangaroo (Macropus rufus) and the Tammar (Macropus eugenii). In contrast, the brush-tailed Possum (Trichosurus vulpecula), a species belonging to the family Phalangeridae, has a single pressor hormone, arginine vasopressin. Because this latter hormone was also found in a prototherian species, the Echidna, it might be assumed that it is the product of a primitive gene and that a duplication and subsequent mutations led to lysine vasopressin and phenypressin in Macropodidae.

Il rendimento non subisce modificazioni di rilievo variando il pH da 6 a 8 o sostituendo al tampone l'acqua bidistillata. Il rendimento é ridotto da 4 a 6 volte in presenza di cisteamina, di cisteina o dei corrispondenti disolfuri in concentrazioni corrispondenti a 50 molecule per molecola di enzima. Coll'ioduro di sodio in concentrazione di 600:1 si ottiene una riduzione di 6 volte.

New drugs are proposed in an attempt to reduce the overformation of uric acid in man. The procedure is based on the inhibition of human purine nucleoside phosphorylase selectively investigated in its phosphorolytic sequence. But for technical reasons, analogous inactivation of the enzyme in its comparative guanosine arsenolysis is subject to experimentation.

(S)-(+)-4,4,4-Trifluoro-3-(indole-3-)butyric acid,a novel fluorinated plant growth regulator

Racemic 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-(indole-3-)butyric acid (TFIBA) has been synthesized and shown to inhibitAvena coleoptile elongation. (S)-(+)-TFIBA (fig. 1), which was prepared by an enzymatic method and markedly promotes root growth of Chinese cabbage, lettuce and rice plants, is a novel fluorinated plant growth regulator. Activity of the (S)-(+)-enantiomer of TFIBA was 10-fold greater than that of the (R)-(–)-enantiomer in the first two plant species and 5-fold greater in rice.     

(R)-(Z,E)-9,11-octadecadien-13-olide: An intriguing lactone fromHeliconius pachinus (Lepidoptera)

Summary A fourteen-membered lactone,(R)-(Z,E)-9,11-octadecadien-13-olide, was isolated from extruded abdominal glands of a Neotropical, nymphalid butterfly,Heliconius pachinus (Lepidoptera). This compound was obtained from mature adults of both sexes, but was not detected in young adults or pupae.
