La thymectomie n'a eu aucun effet sur la première apparition d'antigènes dans la pulpe rouge entourant la zone de pulpe blanche.

Zusammenfassung Eine Anzahl am D-Ring substituierter Derivate von Reichsteins Verbindung S wurde als Modellverbindungen in der Synthese neuer Corticosteroide hergestellt. Die beschriebenen Strukturtypen schliessen Dehydroverbindungen, Epoxyde, Halogenhydrine und ein Glykol ein.     

Microdialysis study of ischemia-induced hydroxyl radicals in the canine heart

A new experimental approach for spin-trapping of oxygen radicals in a selected region of the heart in situ is described. This approach is based on microdialysis, and it permits the detection of oxygen radicals in conditions of local ischemia and restoration of normal blood flow. Increased hydroxyl radical generation in an ischemic area of canine myocardium, as a result of 40 min local occlusion, has been studied.     

The chromosomal location of phosphatase isozymes of the wheat endosperm

Summary The 7 phosphatase isozymes found in the endosperm of hexaploid wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) are related to chromosomes of homoeology group 4. The effect of dietary administration of aspartic acid on thymus weight in C57 black mice

Summary D,L aspartic acid incorporated at a level of 0.5% w/w into the diets of C57B1/10 male mice for 2–8 weeks increased significantly the thymus weight. Similar effects were observed after a 10 days' treatment of the mice with K- and Mg-salts of D,L aspartate (1%) in drinking water.     

The inability of nuclear dehydrogenating clostridia to oxidize bile salt hydroxyl groups

Summary In a survey of the intracellular bile salt oxidoreductase activity in fecal bacteria, 16 strains of nuclear dehydrogenating clostridia and 2 strains of non-nuclear dehydrogenatingC. paraputrificum were demonstrated unable to oxidize cholate at any of the 3 OH groups. Since nuclear dehydrogenation at the -1 and -4 position requires a 3-oxo precursor steroid, it appears that these organisms require the presence of a 3-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenating organism for nuclear dehydrogenation.This work is supported by the National Cancer Institute of Canada (IAM) and by the Cancer Research Campaign (MJH).
