Chemicals releasing oviposition by an Asclepiadaceae feeder,Ideopsis similis, were identified from a host plant,Tylophora tanakae. A strong positive response was evoked by a methanolic extract of the plant, which proved to contain multiple stimulants. A mixture of two phenanthroindolizidine alkaloids, (+)-isotylocrebrine and (–)-7-demethyltylophorine, isolated from organic fractions, elicited significant ovipositional responses from females.  相似文献

Insects mostly develop on decaying and contaminated organic matter and often serve as vectors of biologically transmitted diseases by transporting microorganisms to the plant and animal hosts. As such, insects are constantly ingesting microorganisms, a small fraction of which reach their epithelial surfaces, mainly their digestive tract, where they can establish relationships ranging from symbiosis to mutualism or even parasitism. Understanding the tight physical, genetic, and biochemical interactions that takes place between intestinal epithelia and either resident or infectious microbes has been a long-lasting objective of the immunologist. Research in this field has recently been re-vitalized with the development of deep sequencing techniques, which allow qualitative and quantitative characterization of gut microbiota. Interestingly, the recent identification of regenerative stem cells in the Drosophila gut together with the initial characterization of Drosophila gut microbiota have opened up new avenues of study aimed at understanding the mechanisms that regulate the dialog between the Drosophila gut epithelium and its microbiota of this insect model. The fact that some of the responses are conserved across species combined with the power of Drosophila genetics could make this organism model a useful tool to further elucidate some aspects of the interaction occurring between the microbiota and the human gut.  相似文献

The volatiles used by the parasitoidDiadromus pulchellus to find its host, the leek moth, are produced by the bacteria developing in the frass of the host larvae. The origin and the nature of these bacteria were investigated. Samples were taken from healthy leeks and from infested leeks in the field, as well as from the frass of larvae reared in the laboratory either on the host plant or on an artificial diet. The various species of bacteria identified were cultured in the presence of precursors of leek sulphur volatiles and their volatile emissions were analysed.Klebsiella oxytoca and variousBacillus, common decomposers of plant matter, were the principal species producing active volatiles which were alkyl disulphides.  相似文献

A phytochemical survey of several plant species used in sub-Saharan Africa for the treatment of pottery, as well as some coating experiments carried out with purified extracts ofBridelia ferruginea stem bark, indicated that procyanidin fractions play a predominant role in the coating properties of the plant extracts. The analysis by high performance gel permeation chromatography of organic compounds isolated from the vessel walls suggested that products deriving from pyrolysis of procyanidins are detectable both in contemporary and older pottery, and their analysis could be useful for archaeological purposes.  相似文献

Summary Euphorbia lathyris, a plant which has been proposed as an energy farm candidate yields a total of 35% of its dry weight as simple organic extractables. Chemical analyses of the extracts show that 5% of the dry weight is a mixture of reduced terpenoids, in the form of triterpenoids, and 20% of the dry weight is simple sugars in the form of hexoses. The terpenoids can be converted to a gasoline-like substance and the sugars can be fermented to alcohol. Based on a biomass yield of about 25 dry tons ha–1 year–1, the total energy that can be obtained from this plant in the form of liquid fuels is 48 MJ ha–1 year–1, 26 MJ in the form of hydrocarbons and 22 MJ in the form of ethanol. A conceptual process study for the large scale recovery ofEuphorbia lathyris products indicates that this crop is a net energy producer. Several lines of investigation have been started to increase the hydrocarbon yield of this plant. Tissue cultures ofE. lathyris have been established and will be used for selection, with the aim of regenerating a superior plant. Biochemical studies have been initiated to elucidate regulation of terpenoid metabolism. 土壤有机质为森林生态系统生产力构成的重要部分,是森林生态系统生物循环中的重要环节之一.综述土壤有机质的来源及其与土壤肥力的关系,分析了土壤有机质研究方法的历史、存在的问题及进展情况.森林凋落物、土壤生物及环境因素对土壤有机质含量有直接或间接的影响,同时,土壤有机质又与土壤物理、化学和生物性质密不可分.近年来,科研学者在沿用经典测定方法的基础上,采用了红外光谱、核磁共振和同位素示踪等一些先进方法对土壤有机质性质进行研究,取得了引人注目的进展.但由于土壤有机质结构复杂,长期以来对土壤有机质的结构、反应及其转化仍未能完全认识清楚。  相似文献

Summary The fungusRhizoctonia praticola produces an extracellular phenol oxidase (laccase) which polymerizes phenolic intermediates of various pesticides. The enzyme catalyzes the formation of oligomeric products from halogenated phenolic intermediates of phenoxyalkanoate herbicides and from naphtholic products derived from carbamate insecticides. These findings permit further investigations into the mechanism and role of oxidative coupling leading to the incorporation of xenobiotic compounds into soil organic matter.  相似文献

This paper studies European chemists’ shifting ontologies of materials by comparing the ways in which they classified materials. The focus is on plant materials, their different identities, and the changing ways chemists sorted out and ordered plant materials in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The main goals of the paper are to follow the development of plant materials from ordinary, everyday materials and commodities in the early eighteenth century to purified carbon compounds and organic substances familiar only to experts in the 1830s, and to reconstruct chemists’ ways of classifying these objects in different practical and intellectual contexts.The study of changes in European chemists’ ways of classifying plant materials over more than a century brings to the foreground a trajectory of ontological shifts that is ‘punctuated’ in the 1750s, the 1790s, and the 1830s. Early eighteenth-century plant materials, which were commodities of the apothecary trade and other arts and crafts, were elevated epistemically as compound components or ‘proximate principles’ of plants in the 1750s, reduced to organic compounds in the 1790s, and replaced by carbon compounds in the 1830s. The last, third transformation of the epistemic constitution of materials and the mode of their classification was accompanied by a deep transformation of the material culture of plant chemistry. After the late 1830s, many of the eighteenth-century vegetable commodities disappeared from chemists’ agenda or were split into different substances individuated and identified in new ways. Coal tar products, and new organic artefacts containing chlorine or bromine, entered the chemical laboratory in the 1820s and became fused with the purified rest of the previous plant and animal substances. The material objects of the new culture of organic chemistry became detached from the materials applied in the extant arts and crafts. It was only in the late 1850s, with the rise of the synthetic dye industry, that a great number of these laboratory substances became involved in industrial production.  相似文献

Immunological evidence suggests that plants, like vertebrates, contain natriuretic peptides (NPs) and that rat atrial NP (rANP) binds specifically to plant membranes and promotes concentration and conformation-dependent stomatal opening. Stomatal opening and specific increases in cGMP levels were also observed in response to immunoreactive plant NP (irPNP). Here we report that both 1 μM rANP and irPNP (100 ng total protein/100 μL) significantly increase radial water movements out of the xylem of shoots of Tradescantia multiflora. Enhanced radial water movements are also observed in response to the cell permeant cGMP analogue 8-Br-cGMP (100 nM). The water channel inhibitor mercuric chloride (HgCl2) significantly inhibits radial water movements at concentrations of 50 μM, while the presence of 10 μM 2-hydroxyethylmercaptoethanol (ME) prevents the inhibitory effect of the mercurial. The guanylate cyclase inhibitor LY 83583 at a concentration of 20 μM and sodium azide (NaN3) at concentrations of ≥ 1 μM both also reduce radial water movements. We therefore conclude that the regulation of radial water movement out of the xylem involves modulation of cGMP levels, water channels and respiration-dependent processes. In addition, we propose that NPs have a critical role to play in radial water movements out of the xylem and speculate that as in vertebrates, NP effects might, at least in part, be mediated via the regulation of guanylate cyclases and water channels. Summary Vapourized organic solvents such as: diethyl ether, methylene chloride, carbon disulfide, benzene, and n-octane have an inhibiting effect on CO2 fixation in alfalfa leaves (Medicago sativa). One exception is CS2 which stimulates overall fixation up to 10 vol%. Beyond 10 vol% it inhibits overall CO2 fixation like the other solvents, but stimulates the formation ofl-alanine as the major remaining fixation product. Proportionality exists between water insolubility of the organic solvents and their inhibiting effect on CO2 fixation.  相似文献

Summary Although one can measure the organic matter in various ecosystems in terms of organic carbon, this measurement does not indicate what portion of the organic carbon is bioavailable to the microorganisms. Most organic matter is recalcitrant and, therefore, most microorganisms do not have sufficient energy to carry on their metabolism for growth and reproduction. As a result, many species of bacteria will form ultramicrocells and enter a physiological state known as starvation-survival. Summary Specimens ofGammarus oceanicus were exposed to sea water at salinities of 3%. and 55%. for various periods of time up to 24 h.G. oceanicus can regulate in hyposaline sea water and reached a new steady state after 4 h exposure to 3%. sea water. Its ability to regulated in hypersaline conditions is limited and no animals survived longer than 6–8 h in 55%. sea water. These results are discussed with respect to salinity conditions in the intertidal zone.Acknowledgments. Summary Pressmud, a sugar factory waste, was fermented with methanogenic bacteria in an anaerobic fermenter for 40 days at 31±2°C. The pressmud residue obtained after fermentation was used as a source for the extraction of phytosterols. The anaerobic digestion degraded the organic matter and resulted in enrichment of phytosterols from 0.33% in the pressmud to 3.05% in the residue. Refluxing of 100 g of residue with benzene, petroleum ether, and ethanolic KOH (1051) yielded 8 g of soft cake, which on further fractionation with methylcyanide and isopropanol gave three fractions: 1) a crude mixture of phytosterols, 2) resin, and 3) undigested organic matter. The crude mixture of phytosterols after purification on neutral alumina followed by GLC analysis resulted in the separation of 68.7% of -sitosterol, 18.4% of stigmasterol and 12.9% of campesterol and brassicasterol together. Phytosterols were extracted more easily from fermented than from unfermented samples, because of biodegration of lipophilic compounds by the methanogenic bacteria.Acknowledgments. This paper explores the scientific sources behind Kant’s early dynamical theory of matter in 1755, with a focus on two main Kant’s writings: Universal Natural History and Theory of the Heavens and On Fire. The year 1755 has often been portrayed by Kantian scholars as a turning point in the intellectual career of the young Kant, with his much debated conversion to Newton. Via a careful analysis of some salient themes in the two aforementioned works, and a reconstruction of the scientific sources behind them, this paper shows Kant’s debt to an often overlooked scientific tradition, i.e. speculative Newtonian experimentalism. The paper argues that more than the Principia, it was the speculative experimentalism that goes from Newton’s Opticks to Herman Boerhaave’s Elementa chemiae via Stephen Hales’ Vegetable Staticks that played a central role in the elaboration of Kant’s early dynamical theory of matter in 1755.  相似文献

Possible reasons for the rejection of some lines ofTriticum monococcum (Tm44 and Tm46) by the aphidSitobion avenae were explored. In allT. monococcum lines studied, whether unfavourable (non-host/resistant plant) or favourable (host/susceptible plant), the concentrations of hydroxamic acids, a family of aphid-resistance factors in cereals, were significantly lower than the levels in the favourable host-plantTriticum aestivum cv. Therefore, hydroxamic acids did not account for the host/non-host patterns observed. Phloem sap was collected by stylectomy from young seedlings of favourable and unfavourable plants. In non-aphid-resistant genotypes, the success in stylectomy, the proportion of amputated stylets resulting in long (>1 min) exudations, the average duration of exudation, and the final volume of sap exuded, were higher than in the aphid-resistant genotypes. It is concluded that aphid interference with the phloem sealing system of the plant is a likely mechanism of rejection ofT. monococcum lines Tm44 and Tm46 as hosts byS. avenae.  相似文献

The solubility of granulopoiesis inhibiting factor (GIF) in various aqueous and organic solvents was investigated. GIF is soluble in water, 10% acetic acid, and 10% pyridine. It is not extractable by 1-butanol at low and high pH. A high solubility was found in polar organic solvents (ethanol-acetone 9:1, and chloroform-methanol 1:1), whereas GIF seems to be insoluble in pure chloroform.  相似文献

Summary A kidney bean meal diet was the most satisfactory laboratory diet for the larvae of the American bollwormHeliothis armigera Hubn. Optimum rates of survival (63.5%) occurred and the larval growth was better than that of larvae reared on castor oil plant leaves. The pupal weight and the fecundity of the resulting adults were also much better than those on the control host plant.  相似文献

Human organic cation transporter 2 (hOCT2) is involved in the transport of endogenous and exogenous organic cations mainly in cells of the kidney and the brain. Here, we focus on the regulation of hOCT2 by direct protein–protein interaction. Screening within a mating-based split-ubiquitin-yeast-two-hybrid system (mBSUS) revealed the lysosomal-associated protein transmembrane 4 alpha (LAPTM4A) as a potential interacting protein. Interaction of LAPTM4A and hOCT2 was confirmed by pulldown assays, FRET microscopy analysis and immunofluorescence microscopy. Functionally, overexpression of LAPTM4A significantly decreased ASP+ uptake in HEK293 cells stably transfected with hOCT2, suggesting a negative regulation of hOCT2-mediated transport. Furthermore, overexpression of LAPTM4A leads to a significantly decreased hOCT2 plasma membrane expression in surface biotinylation experiments. In addition, significant expression of LAPTM4A in human kidney was demonstrated by immunoblotting and immunofluorescence.  相似文献

Summary Seeds ofCapsicum annuum L. cultivar cerasiformies were treated with 0.4 and 0.2% aqueous colchicine solution for 24 and 72 h respectively. Tetraploids were not realized; instead, interchange heterozygosity was observed in several plants in 0.4% treatment. The interchanges varied from 1 to 3 per plant.
