Summary Electrophysiological recording of the spontaneous activity from a single group of lateral sense organs on the abdomen ofXenopus laevis results in a more or less regular series of large spikes, either all of the same height or of two different sizes (each group is innervated by two large lateralis fibres). Mechanical stimulation of such a group may cause a rise or a fall of spontaneous impulse frequency. There is evidence for a two-directional sensitivity of the same unit (nerve fibre) from a single group, out of the middle as well as out of the dorsal lateral line.     

Über die Chemodifferenzierung der Stammganglien der Ratte

Summary In foetal rat stem ganglia originating from the diencephalon, chemodifferentiation and morphogenesis take place earlier than in those from the telencephalon. Between 3 and 10 days postnatally, enzyme activities of all regions largely level up; later, the structures from the telencephalon show higher activities. Exceptions are acid phosphatase and thiamine pyrophosphatase, whose activities are higher in the stem ganglia from the diencephalon than in those from the telencephalon. The globus pallidus behaves in every respect like the structures from the diencephalon.

Beitrag zur Frage der Entstehung mehrkerniger Zellen

Summary The author describes the origin of 2 daughter cells of HeLa cellular line: one double nuclear and the other single nuclear cell. Both cells origined by the mitotic division of the single nuclear mother cell without any artificial treatment. The observation is documented by the series of partial photographs of the time-lapse cine-film.     

Quantitative und qualitative Untersuchungen der Esteraseaktivität in normalen Granulozyten,normalen Lymphozyten und in leukämischen Zellen

Summary A quantitative and qualitative analysis of the carboxylic esterases of normal granulocytes, normal lymphocytes and leukemic cells was performed. In the myeloid leukemic cells and in the lymphatic leukemic cells, the esterase activity was significantly increased. By means of electrophoretic fractionation, four zones with esterase activity were detected in normal granulocytes and lymphocytes; the electrophoretic pattern of the leukemic cells was similar to that of the normal cells.

Summary The serum alkaline and acid phosphatases were examined in male rats between the ages of 20 and 300 days, using the method ofHuggins andTalalay ⁴. The activities of acid and alkaline phosphatases increase significantly to the age of 45 days, followed by a highly significant decrease up to 120th day for alkaline and to 75th day for acid phosphatase. After castration, highly significant increases in the acid, but no changes in the alkaline serum phosphatase were observed.     

Hemmung der experimentellen,testosteron-bedingten Epidermisproliferation an der weiblichen Ratte durch ein synthetisches Phenanthrenderivat mit antiandrogener Wirkung

Summary In the female rat, testosterone propionate-induced proliferation of the epidermis (acanthosis and mitotic activation) is inhibited in proportion to dosage by a phenanthrene derivative with antiandrogenic action.     

Mechanismus der Reaktion von Invertseifen mit isolierten Zellen

Summary Reaction equilibria were established between an invert soap on the one side and carbon, lecithin, erythrocytes and yeast cells on the other side. From the parallelism of the invert soap-lecithin and the invert soap-erythrocytes curves a specific reaction of the invert soap with the lipoids of the erythrocytes may be concluded, whereas the invert soap-yeast cells curves yield a pure adsorption isotherm corresponding to the invert soap-carbon curve.     

Physiologische Untersuchungen an der innervierten glatten Muskulatur der Vogelfedern (Mm. pennarum)

Summary The tension development of the smooth feather muscles of the pigeon was measured (a) on the wing in situ (b) on an isolated innervated skin preparation and (c) on an isolated muscle preparation. The contraction produced by nerve stimulation is biphasic. The second phase can be blocked by -receptor blocking agents. The mechanism of the first phase is unknown. The preparation seems very suitable for the investigation of neuromuscular transmission in smooth muscle.     

Unterschiede der ATPase-Hemmung durch Azid in weissen und roten Muskelfasern der Ratte

Summary With a simple test — inhibition of the Mg-activated ATPase in a total homogenate of muscle by azide — it is possible to distinguish clearly between red and white muscle fibres. A number of muscles of the pelvic and thigh region of the rat are investigated by this method.     

Geschlechtsabhängige Grössenunterschiede der Mitochondrien in der Zona fasciculata der Nebennierenrinde der Ratte

Summary Diameters of mitochondria of the external zona fasciculata of the adrenal cortex of 4 female and 4 male Sprague-Dawley-rats are determined with the image analyzing computer Quantimet 720. On the average females have significantly larger mitochondria. The mitochondria show an ellipsoid deformation, the long axes are orientated parallel to the columns of the zona fasciculata.     

Das Nebenhodengangepithel der Ratte nach Hypophysektomie und nach Androgensubstitution

Summary The epithelium of the epididymal duct (corpus region) of the rat after hypophysectomy and after androgen substitution has been examined by light and electron microscopy. The epithelium consists of 3 different cell types: principal, accessory (Nebenzellen), and basal cells. The characteristics of these cells disappear after hypophysectomy and redifferentiate after androgen application. The alterations of the principal and accessory cells in course of time (from the 1st week up to 9 weeks after injection of 20 mg testosterone propionate) are the subject of this report.     

Beobachtung der Bildung zwei zweikerniger Zellen aus einer Zelle der Gewebekultur ohne experimentellen Eingriff

Summary The author reports on the development of two binuclear cells from one PK cell dividing mitotically, which, by its aberrant chromosomes, recalls tripolar mitosis. He believes that this process is not an exception and that it may be used for the explanation of the development of a certain part of binuclear cells frequently found in stabilized strains.     

Einfluss der Passagegeschwindigkeit auf die Resorption von Glucose im Dünndarm der Ratte

Summary Loops of rat's small intestine have been perfused with 5% glucose solution at different flow rates. The absorption of glucose has been investigated. The results showed that, with increasing flow rates, absorption rate of glucose is also increased. Therefore contact time seems to be no limiting factor in intestinal absorption.

Morphometrische Untersuchungen an der Rattenleber — Parenchymzelle nach Anwendung verschiedener Fixationspuffer

Summary The effect of 2 fixatives, (1) s-Collidin buffered OsO₄, (2) phosphate buffered OsO₄, on the liver cell was studied by morphometric analysis. After fixation with solution 2, large areas of smooth endoplasmic reticulum were covered by electron-opaque deposits of glycogen. No such masking was noticed by using solution 1. Other cell organelles showed no significant differences in their relative volumes. By using fixative solution 2, decrease in glycogen can simulate relative volume increase of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
