Zusammenfassung Wenn auf der Haut der Maus eine Karzinogenese mit minimalen Dosen eines reinen Initiators und eines reinen Promoters (Co-karzinogen) induziert wird, tritt eine Mastzellreaktion auf. Diese Reaktion erreicht ein Maximum unter den Papillomen. Sie kann durch Applikation eines Antikarzinogens verhindert werden.     

Mast cells in the skin of normal,hairless and athymic mice

Summary The skin of congenitally athymicnu/nu mice is rich in mast cells which stain metachromatically, contain histamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine, and participate in the PCA reaction. Zusammenfassung Nach Formaldehydfixation und Vorbehandlung mit dem Carcinogen DMBA oder Äthylphenylpropiolat (das nicht cancerogen oder co-cancerogen wirkt) wird in der Epidermis der Maus eine Tryptophanbedingte blaue Fluoreszenz gefunden. Die gelbe Fluoreszenz in den Mastzellen beruht auf 5-HT.

Diese Zellen scheinen die spezifischen Merkmale der monoaminbildenden Zellen zu besitzen. Biochemisch scheinen die Gewebsmastzellen an einer heterogenen Gruppe zu gehören, die aus wenigstens zwei ganz verschiedenen Zelltypen besteht.

Zusammenfassung Es wird nachgewiesen, dass die Mastzellen vonTriturus pyrrhogaster Boié kein Histamin enthalten, sie also im Gegensatz zur allgemeinen Annahme keine Histamozyten sind. Dieser Befund wurde sowohl biologisch am Meerschweinchendarm durch Extraktion des Histamins mit Hilfe der Codeschen Methode als auch durch den histochemischen Histaminnachweis mito-Phthalaldehyd an verschiedenen Geweben bestätigt.

Mast cells in the pinna of Balb/c 'nude' (nu/nu) and heterozygotes (ny/+)mice.

The relative number of mast cells in the ear lobes' skin (pinna) of nude (athymic) nu/nu and normal (thymic) nu/+ heterozygotes of Balb/c mice was similar. The results obtained contradict some suggestions about the general influence of the thymus on the number of mast cells in the skin and suggest the existence of some local factor(s) in regulation of skin mast cell numbers.

Summary The extraembryonic vascular membranes of 3-day-18-day chick embryos were examined for the presence of mast cells. As early as 3.5 ddays mast cells were found on the area vasculosa. It is suggested that these cells have a role in angiogenesis of the chick extraembryonic vascular system.The work is supported by The Wellcome Trust.

Riassunto I mastociti, assai numerosi nel tessuto connettivo bronchiale umano normale, presentano in questo stesso distretto organico importanti modificazioni numeriche, morfologiche e istochimiche dopo trattamento con desametazone e nel corso di lesioni bronchiali di tipo disergico (asma bronchiale). Le alterazioni costantemente osservate negli asmatici fanno ritenere che esistano strette relazioni tra comportamento dei mastociti tessutali e manifestazioni disreattive dell'albero bronchiale.     

Proopiomelanocortin expression in the skin during induced hair growth in mice

We demonstrate for the first time a hair cycle-dependent gene and protein expression of proopiomelanocortin in mouse skin in vivo. Northern blot detected POMC mRNA with an apparent size of 0.9 kb in anagen but not telogen skin. Western blot emphasized a specific protein of 30–33 kDa recognized by anti -endorphin in late but not early anagen or telogen skin. By immunocytochemistry, -endorphin antigen was localized in the sebaceous gland in a hair cycle dependent manner.
