A specific protein in the genusRhynchosciara (Diptera,Sciaridae)

Summary Proteins immunologically related toRhynchosciara americana larval protein 10 occur in the hemolymph and ovaries of five different fly species of the genusRhynchosciara. Electrophoretic analyses showed these proteins to have a mol.wt similar to that of theR. americana protein 10 (43,000), e.g. theR. hollanderi protein 44,300, theR. milleri protein 45,500.     

On the contribution of haemolymph to the salivary proteins of the red cotton bug,Dysdercus koenigii F. (Heteroptera,Pyrrhocoridae)

Summary Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of haemolymph and the salivary gland of adult maleDysdercus koenigii has been carried out. The presence of common bands in the electropherograms of the salivary gland and haemolymph shows the possible elaboration of haemolymph protein into the salivary glands as also evidenced by leucomethylene blue incorporation into the salivary gland lobules. Free amino acids in the haemolymph ofEoperipatur weldoni (onychophora)

Zusammenfassung Mit der Methodk nach Folin und Spackmann wurden die Freien Aminosäuren in der Hämolymphe vonEoperipatus weldoni festgestellt und in ihrer Gesamtkonzentration mit den Aminosären der Myriapoden und primitiven hemimetabolischen Insekten vergleichbar gefunden.

Supernumerary (B) chromosome inAnopheles indefinitus (Diptera,Culicidae)

Summary Larval brain mitotic karyotype ofAn. indefinitus from Kanchanaburi exhibits a supernumerary (B) chromosome which is apparently common in that population. 1 or 2 B-chromosomes have been observed in the samples from 5 isofemale lines examined.Acknowledgments. Biological studies onPseudohypocera kerteszi (Phoridae,Diptera)

Summary 15 couples ofPseudohypocera kerteszi were introduced into individual tubes containing culture medium, maintained at 22–28°C and 45–55% relative humidity. The courtship and the behaviour of males and females before and after the copula are described for the first time; the number of eggs laid by each female during the oviposition period and the sexual rate in offspring were registered in each tube. The relative viability from egg to imago was determined in 8 of the 15 tubes.This study was made possible by a grant of the State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).     

Absorption and excretion of benzpyrene in the cockroach (Periplaneta americana)

Variation in trehalase activity in the fat body,intestine and haemolymph ofPhilosamia ricini (Eri-Silkworm) during development

Zusammenfassung Es wurden die Veränderungen des Trehalasegehaltes, der Trehalaseaktivität im Darmgewebe, Fettkörper und Hämolymphe des SeidenspinnersPhilosamia ricini während der Metamorphose und deren Rolle in der Regulation des Blutzuckerspiegels und der Glykogensynthese im Fettkörper untersucht.     

Nuclear lamellae in the germ-line cells of gall midges (Cecidomyiidae,Diptera)

Summary Lamellar structures in oogonial and spermatogonial cells of gall midges were found to form a complicated system of intranuclear compartments inside which all heteropycnotic chromosomes present in the germ-line cells of these insects are located. In this way, the heteropycnotic S-chromosomes are separated by the nuclear lamellae from the remaining, decondensed chromosomes (E-chromosomes) of the interphase germ-line nucleus.This investigation was supported in part under Contract DPKBN/52/76-II.1.3.10. with the Polish Academy of Sciences.     

Gnawing activity,dietary carbohydrate deficiency and oothecal production in the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana)

Summary The gnawing activity of adult female cockroaches was assessed by the dry weight loss of cotton fibre supplied to individual insects. In animals maintained on a carbohydrate-deficient diet the use of fibre was significantly less than in animals receiving a balanced diet. A comparison with controls showed that under both dietary regimes access to a fibre source did not significantly increase the mean, total number of oothecae produced.     

Chromatographic evidence for murein from the bacteroid symbiotes ofPeriplaneta americana (L)

Zusammenfassung Papierchromatographisch wurde Murein in symbiontischen Bakteroiden derPeriplaneta americana nachgewiesen. Die Murein-Komponente Glukosamin und der Murein-Anzeiger Muramic-Säure wurden mittels Bakteroid-Hydrolysaten identifiziert. Das Vorhandensein von --Diaminopimelic-Säure jedoch konnte nicht einwandfrei festgestellt werden.

Mitosis in the haemocytes of Sarcophaga ruficornis (Diptera)

Among the haemocytes of Sarcophaga ruficornis, only the prohaemocytes divide. Injection of phytohaemagglutinin-P induces 100% prohaemocytes to undergo mitosis but does not induce mitosis in other cells. Mitotic stages other than the prophase are apparently very short lived.     

Resorption von Serumproteinen in die Haemolymphe bei Larven vonHypoderma bovis (De Geer) (Diptera,Hypodermatidae)

Summary By electrophoresis it became obvious that larvae ofHypoderma bovis are able to take up complete proteins from their host's serum directly into the haemolymphe, fatbody and ovarium. This could be proved by experiments with radioactive albumin.     

Immunohistochemical localization of pancreatic polypeptide (PP) in the brain of the larval instar of the hoverfly,Eristalis aenus (Diptera)

Summary 2 pancreatic polypeptide (PP) immunoreactive cells were observed in each half of the protocerebrum of the last (5th), larval instar of the hoverfly,Eristalis aenus.
