Summary Daily administration of vitamin D₃ (75,000 IU/kg b.wt) for 7 days acceleratedTrichinella spiralis cyst calcification in rats with a 14-week-old infection. When disodium ethane-1-hydroxy-1,1-diphosphonate (EHDP) was administered (50 mg/kg b.wt) from 2 days before until 2 days after vitamin D₃ treatment, cyst calcification was inhibited. Cytotoxicity of mouse peritoneal cells after alloimmunization]

CBA Mice were immunized by two intraperitoneal injections of 30 X 10(6) DBA/2 or C57BL/6 spleen cells at days--12 and--2. Peritoneal cell population was obtained at day zero by washing the peritoneal cavity of Mice. Adherent cells were then separated using a 2 hrs. incubation in "Falcon" plates followed by washing. This macrophage-rich peritoneal cell population was found nonspecifically cytotoxic against 51Cr labeled tumoral target cells: P815 X DBA/2 mastocytoma cells, EL4 X C57BL/L lymphoma cells and spontaneous lymphoma AKR cells (same H--2k as CBA). This adherent peritoneal cell cytoxicity was demonstrated after 24 hrs. incubation with the target cells. It was found in nonspecific combination as well as when using target cells syngeneic to the donor. These findings suggest that adherent peritoneal cell cytotoxicity could be at least partly due to macrophages and result from factor (s) released by sensitized lymphocytes in vivo in the same way as has been previously demonstrated in vitro.     

Podocalyxin enhances the adherence of cells to platelets

Podocalyxin (PODXL) is a mucin protein of the CD34 family expressed in kidney glomerular podocytes, vascular endothelium, progenitor bone marrow and tumor cells. It is assumed that PODXL plays an anti-adherent role in kidney podocytes. CHO cells stably expressing human PODXL (CHO-PODXL) or human tumor cells (Tera-1) inherently expressing PODXL showed increased adherence to platelets. The adherence of cells was inhibited (70%) by blockers of platelet P-selectin, prevented by the soluble ectodomain of human PODXL (PODXL-Δ) or by the arginine-glycine-aspartate (RGDS) peptide and partially impeded by inhibition of integrin αVβ3/αVβ5, suggesting a coordinated action of P-selectin and integrins. Colocalization of platelet P-selectin and PODXL expressed on CHO cells was demonstrated by confocal immunofluorescence. No adherence to platelets was observed when PODXL was expressed in glycomutant CHO cells deficient in sialic acid. Autoradiographic demonstration of arylsulphatase C activity in peritoneal mast cells of the rat

Résumé En utilisant la méthode autoradiographique avec dup-nitrophénol potassium³⁵S-sulphate comme substratum, on constate que l'arylsulphatase C se trouve dans les mastocytes. Dans la majorité des mastocytes qui sont dans le liquide péritonéal du rat, on constate la présence d'arylsulphatase C active. L'activité de cet enzyme est 2 fois plus forte dans les mastocytes des animaux agés d'un an que dans les cellules des animaux de 7 jours.     

Smallest zinc quantities affect the histamine release from peritoneal mast cells of the rat

Seven individual 0.025-mg doses of zinc administered as lactose tablets on consecutive days, significantly increase histamine release from peritoneal mast cells of the rat. Seven individual doses of 0.25 microgram caused a somewhat smaller, though still very pronounced increase in the release in comparison with zero control.

Detection of antigens on filarial larvae by means of immune adherence

Résumé On a décelé des antigènes à la surface des larves deBreinlia sergenti par la réaction d'adhérence immune. Ils n'ont pas été décelés sur les adultes ni sur les microfilaires, avec un sérum de lapin anti-larves. L'antisérum a réagi avec les larves deDirofilaria immitis etBrugia pahangi, mais non pas avec les larves deBrugia malayi.     

Degranulating activity in hybrid cells derived from rat peritoneal mast cells and ehrlich ascites tumor cells

Summary Fusion of rat mast cells and Ehrlich ascites tumor cells was mediated by HVJ. Compound 48/80-induced degranulation occurred in the fused cells formed from two mast cells and one tumor cell, but not in the fused cells from one mast cell and two or more tumor cells.I am grateful to DrK. Separation of mast cells from the peritoneal fluid of the rat with a GE nucleopore filter

Zusammenfassung Filtrationsmethode der Trennung von Mastzellen aus der Abdominalhöhlenflüssigkeit der Ratte: Die separierten Zellen werden auf dem Filter fixiert, gefärbt und untersucht. Die Methode eignet sich für Untersuchungen von Mastzellreaktionen in vitro.
