Summary Ephestia cautella females will respond to a jet of air with an acceptance posture, and will respond more frequently when the air carries volatiles, probably male sex pheromones, from the male wings.     

Development of the auditory tympana in the cricketTeleogryllus commodus (Walker): Experiments on regeneration and transplantation

Summary Grafting and regeneration experiments on prothoracic legs of the cricketTeleogryllus commodus (Walker) demonstrate: a) that the legs retain their identity, as indicated by formation of tympanal cuticle in the adult, when transplanted to the site of a mesothoracic leg in immature animals, and b) that the presence of tympanal cuticle on a regenerate leg depends on the instar of amputation.I thank Mike Bate for the helpful discussion throughout the project and Carmen Vilcins for excellent technical assistance.     

Communicating junctions between pillar cells in the gills of the atlantic hagfish,Myxine glutinosa

Summary In the respiratory lamellae of the gills of the atlantic hagfish,Myxine glutinosa, pillar cells are coupled by communicating junctions. Presence of intrachromatidic bands in mitotic chromosomes ofTriturus marmoratus (Amphibia: Caudata)

Summary The C-banding technique has revealed the existence of single and double intrachromatidic bands in mitotic chromosomes ofTriturus marmoratus. The presence of the bands is discussed on the basis of the helical coil model versus the radial loop model, which assumes a different packing of the DNA fiber.We are very indebted to Prof. C. Presence of a protein disulfide isomerase (EC 5.3.4.1) in wheat germ]

The presence of a protein disulfide isomerase (rearrangease) in wheat embryo has been demonstrated by its ability in reactivating randomly cross-linked ribonuclease. This activity requires a dialysable cofactor; after dialysis, the activity is recovered by addition of reduced glutathione. The enzyme can be precipitated by 70% saturation ammonium sulfate.
