Zusammenfassung Aus urämischem Menschen- und Hundeblut und Liquor isolierten wir eine uns bisher unbekannte Substanz, die unserer Ansicht nach für die Entstehung von urämischen Symptomen mitverantwortlich sein dürfte. Auf Grund unserer bisherigen Untersuchungen halten wir die Substanz für ein kleinmolekulares Peptid.

Summary Two distinct polypeptides have been isolated from rat heart and ox blood. They are both found to be effective in forming complexes with sodium ions, and it is suggested that they may have a function in stabilizing sodium ion activity.Acknowledgments. Summary An approach to the isolation of neurosecretory material from planarians is described. This material stimulated RNA synthesis, in a dose-dependent response, in regeneratingDugesia tigrina. The data support the concept that neurosecretion plays a key role in the process of regeneration in planarians.Supported by funds from the National Research Council of Canada.     

Isolation of a Soldado-like virus (Hughes group) from Ornithodorus maritimus ticks in Ireland.

Three isolations of a virus of the Hughes group were obtained from seabird ectoparasites, Ornithodoros (Alectorobius) maritimus, on Great Saltee Island, Ireland. The agent is closely related to Soldado virsu, originally obtained from related ticks near Trinidad, West Indies, and represents the second recorded tickborne arbovirus in Ireland.

An approach to the isolation of neurosecretory material from planarians is described. This material stimulated RNA synthesis, in a dose-dependent response, in regenerating Dugesia tigrina. The data support the concept that neurosecretion plays a key role in the process of regeneration in planarians.

Résumé Cet article rend compte des essais d'isolation des substances spécifiques des groupes sanguins de l'homme. Elles sont déterminées comme étant des complexes mucoïdes ou polysaccharides-aminoacides et l'on traite de quelquesunes de leurs propriétés physiques, chimiques et immunochimiques. En isolant ces substances qui forment des complexes moléculaires homogènes, on estime pouvoir obtenir, si l'on opère sur le sang d'individus de génotype connu, un matériel permettant de déterminer l'influence des gènesA, B etO sur les caractères physiques des produits de gènes très voisins. Les résultats des recherches entreprises dans ces directions constitueront une précieuse contribution à nos connaissances sur la chimie des substances génétiques humaines.

Lewis blood group activity in Fasciola hepatica]

Lewis blood group specificities are detected in the liver Fluke: Fasciola hepatica. Such specificities had never been reported in nature, other than in the human body. The investigation of this phenomenon might contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in parasite-host relationship.     

Ca-antagonistic substance from soft coral of the genusSarcophyton

Summary A 14-membered ring diterpenoid named cembrane, possessing Ca-antagonistic action on the isolated rabbit aorta, has been isolated from a soft coral of the genusSarcophyton, and its structure established by X-ray and spectroscopic data.The authors thank Mr. Z.
