Zusammenfassung Die Verteilung von radioaktivem Phosphor im Gehirn virusinfizierter weisser Mäuse ist geprüft worden. Im Zeitpunkt maximaler Virusvermehrung nimmt die Aufnahme des radioaktiven Phosphors in den Phosphorverbindungen der infizierten Gehirne deutlich zu. Virologische und biochemische Aspekte wurden diskutiert.

Summary Food exchange occurred as an appeasement response in distant ant colonies ofSolenopsis invicta, S. geminata, andPheidole dentata. More regurgitated radioactive fluid was given to major workers than to minors by the donors from the alien colonies of these species.

Résumé Les masses communes des amino-acides libres chezTetracladium setigerum etHeliscus submersus ont été analysées par des méthodes chromatographiques utilisant une couche mince de cellulose. Elles sont typiques pour la plupart des mycètes. Les amino-acides libres n'apparaissant que rarement ont été: l'hydroxyproline chezT. setigerum cultivé sur de l'acide glutamique, l'éthanolamine chezT. setigerum etH. submersus cultivé sur l'acide glutamique et enfin l'acide -aminobutyrique chezH. submersus avec comme nutrition la tyrosine.     

Oxygen exchange in the erythrocyte

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Übersicht über die mathematischen und experimentellen Aspekte des O₂-Austausches im Erythrozyten gegeben. Der Gesamtprozess kann als eine Sauerstoffdiffusion mit gekoppelter Hämoglobin-Sauerstoff-Reaktion beschrieben werden. Für die mathematische Analyse muss also die partielle Differentialgleichung der Diffusion durch ein Gleichungssystem erweitert werden, das dem chemischen Reaktionsablauf Rechnung trägt. Voraussetzung hierfür ist die Aufstellung eines Modells zur molekularen Interpretation der O₂-Bindungskurve. Die vereinfachten Differentialgleichungen für Diffusion und Reaktion lassen sich unter Beachtung der Rand- und Anfangsbedingungen nur näherungsweise integrieren.Es werden ferner die experimentellen Methoden beschrieben, die für die Verfolgung der schnellen O₂-Austauschvorgänge im Erythrozyten geeignet sind. An einigen Beispielen werden die mit diesen Methoden gewonnenen Untersuchungsergebnisse erläutert. Es zeigt sich, dass die mathematische Analyse und die experimentellen Untersuchungen zu übereinstimmenden Ergebnissen führen.     

The influence of phytochrome in the water exchange of epidermal cells ofTaraxacum officinale

Résumé La qualité de la lumière a modifié le passage de l'eau dans les cellules épidermiques des pétioles deTaraxacum officinale. L'irradiation par du rouge sombre a augmenté la rapidité avec laquelle l'eau entre dans la cellule et la lumière rouge clair a renversé cet effet.     

The importance of interest rates for forecasting the exchange rate

This study compares the forecasting performance of a structural exchange rate model that combines the purchasing power parity condition with the interest rate differential in the long run, with some alternative exchange rate models. The analysis is applied to the Norwegian exchange rate. The long‐run equilibrium relationship is embedded in a parsimonious representation for the exchange rate. The structural exchange rate representation is stable over the sample and outperforms a random walk in an out‐of‐sample forecasting exercise at one to four horizons. Ignoring the interest rate differential in the long run, however, the structural model no longer outperforms a random walk. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley _ Sons, Ltd.

The roles of phosphorus deficiency and low food intake in the preservation of renal function in uraemic rats

Summary While a diet deficient in phosphorus has a protective effect against kidney deterioration in uraemic rats, this effect, in fact, is more closely related to the reduction of food intake than tho the phosphorus load itself, even though the latter influenced the pattern of the renal lesions.Acknowledgment. Riassunto L'autore ha studiato i composti fosforici della retina interessati nella glicolisi, mediante una tecnica combinata chimica e cromatografica. Tale tecnica ovvia agli inconvenienti legati alle classiche tecniche diLe Page edHanes eHisherwood. I risultati ottenuti confermano l'esistenza nella retina di un attivo metabolismo glicidico che segue la via normale senza pertanto escludere una possibile via collaterale.      

The dynamic effect of macroeconomic news on the euro/US dollar exchange rate

This study investigates the impact of 70 US and EU macroeconomic news announcements on euro/dollar returns and volatility from November 2004 to April 2014. We use regime smooth transition regression to endogenously define recession and expansion. Our sample period includes the US mortgage crisis and EU sovereign debt crisis. Most news is unstable as its effect varies between these economic states. There are asymmetrical effects between recession and expansion states for both US and EU news, with most US news having a larger impact and nearly double the number of significant EU announcements. Volatility increases for over 85% of news coefficients, with more than half still being significantly different between states.
