Interferon in France: trial condemned

Professor Georges Mathé, a prominent French cancer researcher, has questioned the competence of the physicians involved in preliminary trials of interferon in cancer treatment. Mathé also criticized the design of the trials, which have resulted in the deaths of four out of eleven patients, and asked for the resignation of the members of the scientific council set up to monitor the experiments. IPP (Institut Pasteur Production), which produces the interferon, is performing toxicity trials with a purified derivative that could be the subject of new clinical trials.

Interferon-neutralizing antibodies in a patient treated with human fibroblast interferon

During recent years clinical trials have shown that human leukocyte interferon (HuIFN-alpha) may be useful in the treatment of cancer, but very little has been done concerning the possible use of human fibroblast interferon (HuIFN-beta). Treuner et al. recently reported the successful treatment of a nasopharyngeal carcinoma with HuIFN-beta: in the course of IFN-therapy a HuIFN-beta neutralizing activity appeared in the serum of this patient. We report here that such activity is due to IgG antibodies--this study is the first to present evidence for antigenicity of IFN in a homologous system.     

改革背景下我国图书馆理事会制度研究

根据2011年3月23日中共中央印发的《中共中央国务院关于分类推进事业单位改革的指导意见》（中发[2011]5号）精神，我国事业单位改革势在必行。公共图书馆属于公益一类事业单位，目前已经具备了建立理事会制度的条件。以事业单位改革为背景，以公共图书馆为典型，对我国建立图书馆理事会制度进行了探讨。

南京国民政府监察权力运作低效，导致无法遏止国民政府官员腐败、腐败又加速了国民政府的崩溃，监察权力运作失控的原因主要有：传统的人治体制对监察权力运作的挑战；国民政府训政体制抑制了监察院的独立性；监察体制自身弊端，即弹劾权与惩戒权分离，使监察院权威性资源丧失。     

Induction and kinetics of natural killer cells in humans following interferon therapy

Natural killer (NK) cells are non-B, non-T lymphocytes that effect spontaneous cytolysis of both virus-infected and neoplastically transformed target cells. These NK lymphocytes have been detected in several species including man. Interferon is a primary regulator of natural killer activity. Because NK cells have been implicated in the regulation of tumour cell expression and can be induced by interferon in murine models, we have studied patients receiving large doses of interferon to determine (1) whether interferon could induce NK lymphocytes in the peripheral blood of man, and (2) whether there are characteristic kinetics for the appearance, disappearance and reactivation of NK lymphocytes following interferon therapy. We report here the activation of human NK cells by the systemic inoculation of human subjects with interferon. Five patients received interferon as therapy for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. All showed a marked increase in NK cell activity 12--24 h after inoculation. Peak NK activity occurred 18 h after introducing interferon, and thereafter declined rapidly but remained above pre-interferon levels. Induced NK activity occurred with reintroduction of interferon but at lower levels of activity and with different kinetics.

自1949年建国以来,我国体育事业从1984年洛杉矶奥运会的第一块金牌,到2008年北京奥运会的金牌榜奖牌榜的双重第一,我国的运动健儿取得了举世瞩目的成就。党中央、国务院根据国家形势和经济发展状况,在历年的国家政府工作报告中不仅充分肯定了上年体育事业取得的成绩,还对体育事业未来的发展指明了方向、制定了任务。经过整理,从1954年至2013年间,＂体育＂字样在历年国务院政府工作报告中共出现195次（1961年-1977年缺失）。在历年政府工作报告中,每一年关于＂体育＂表述的内容、位置、频率等均有所不同,但有一定的规律性,表现出明显的时代特性。

Glucocorticoid hormones inhibit DNA synthesis and enhance interferon production in human lymphoid cell line

Although buffy coat leukocytes have been the prime source of human interferon, cells of the Burkitt lymphoma line Namalwa are increasingly used for the large scale production of interferon. On induction with Sendai virus or Newcastle disease virus, Namalwa cells produce a substantial quantity of interferon which contains predominantly the leukocyte antigenic species and minor amounts of fibroblast-type interferon. We have recently demonstrated that inducers of erythropoietic differentiation in Friend cells are able to enhance interferon synthesis in Namalwa cells when added to cultures larger than or equal to 24 h before interferon induction by Sendai virus. The most potent compounds, n-butyrate, stimulated interferon production about 30-fold and has also been independelty described by others. All active compounds inhibited DNA synthesis in Namalwa cells and the extent of inhibition apparently paralleled the stimulatory potency of the respective compound. Induction of differentiation of Friend cells can be antagonised by various steroid hormones, which by themselves have no measurable effects on these cells. In contrast, we report here that glucocorticoid hormones inhibit DNA synthesis in Namalwa cells and augment Sendai virus-induced interferon synthesis.

A monoclonal antibody for large-scale purification of human leukocyte interferon

A clone of hybrid myelomas (NK2), secreting a mouse monoclonal antibody to human leukocyte interferon, has been isolated. The antibody neutralizes the antiviral activity of the interferon and, when covalently attached to a solid support and used as an immunoadsorbent, allows interferon purification of up to 5,000-fold in a single step.     

Interferon amplifies complement activation by Burkitt's lymphoma cells

Interferon was originally described as an antiviral agent produced shortly after onset of infection with most viruses. However, in addition to inducing an antiviral state, interferon inhibits cell division, increases the expression of cell-surface antigens, boosts the cytotoxic activity of natural killer (NK) cells and modulates several immune functions of lymphocytes and macrophages. Moreover, a special class of interferon (immune interferon or IFN-gamma) is produced by T cells following stimulation with antigen or interaction with mitogens. The different methods by which interferon is induced and its multiple effects suggest that it may be part of a first-line defence system controlling the spread of virus infections and the proliferation of modified 'self' cells that have been affected by virus infection or neoplastic transformation. The ability of certain human lymphoma cells to activate the alternative pathway of complement is well established. Here we show that monoclonal antibody-purified interferon can amplify the ability of certain tumour cells to activate complement via the alternative pathway. This demonstration may reflect an additional, as yet unknown, role of interferon in inducing non-specific anti-tumour immunity.     

Production of immune interferon by murine T-cell clones from long-term cultures

Production of leukocyte interferon (IFN-alpha) and fibroblast interferon (IFN-beta) can be induced by a variety of agents but immune interferon, IFN-gamma, is only obtained when lymphoid cells are stimulated by specific antigens, allo-antigens or T-cell mitogens. Moreover, in bulk cultures, only small quantities of IFN-gamma are produced. The type of cell producing IFN-gamma has not been unambiguously defined and so we set out to determine whether a pure T-cell population could produce it, exploiting the knowledge that T cells can be maintained indefinitely in tissue culture by the addition of T-cell growth factors. Although not all T cells can found long-term cultures of this kind, cultures of antigen-specific helper, suppressor and killer T cells have been obtained in this way. We now describe the production of substantial amounts of INF-gamma when some (but not all) murine T-cell clones derived from such cultures are stimulated by either concanavalin A (Con A) or phytohaemagglutinin (PHA).     

从城市房屋征收角度看公益拆迁的法律规制之嬗变——对《国有土地上房屋征收与补偿条例》的思考

2007年10月1日出台的《物权法》明确了拆迁应予补偿及补偿原则,这有利于被拆迁人权益的保护。但是,《物权法》在保护被拆迁人利益方面尚存在诸多不足。为了更好的保护被拆迁人的利益,2011年1月21日,国务院正式公布了《国有土地上房屋征收与补偿条例》,此条例对城市房屋征收进行了规范,明确了基于公共利益方得实施搬迁。     

聚焦超声治疗宫颈持续高危型HPV感染

 研究了聚焦超声用于治疗宫颈持续高危型HPV感染的有效性和安全性。通过入组跟踪研究方式,将宫颈高危性HPV感染患者90例随机分为3组（每组30例）,分别采用聚焦超声、干扰素治疗及假辐照,分别于治疗后3个月、6个月检测各组的缓解率、转阴率及无效率。结果显示：治疗后3个月,聚焦超声治疗组转阴率为53.3%,干扰素治疗组转阴率48.3%。假辐照组转阴率为31.0%（P＜0.05）。治疗后6个月,聚焦超声治疗组转阴率为86.2%,干扰素治疗组转阴率79.3%,假辐照组转阴率53.6%。与假辐照组对比,聚焦超声及干扰素均能显著降低宫颈高危型HPV感染患者的HPV滴度（P＜0.05）,聚焦超声与干扰素组疗效之间无显著差异（P＞0.05）。由此得出结论：聚焦超声能安全有效地控制宫颈高危型HPV的持续感染。
