Comparison of inhibitory effects of royal jelly acid and myrmicacin on germination ofCamellia sinensis pollens

Summary Royal jelly acid (10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid) secreted by honeybees and ant-origin myrmicacin (3-hydroxy-decanoic acid) inhibited germination ofCamellia sinensis pollens, and the latter was stronger in the inhibition. Their inhibiting activities were stronger at lower pH, and their inhibitions were reversible.     

Testosterone in human saliva

Summary Testosterone has been detected in whole human saliva. Levels averaged (±SE) 295±36 and 195±25 pg/ml in adult males and females, respectively, and usually were undetectable in children. In adult males, the excretion of testosterone in saliva appeared to follow a circadian rhythm.Acknowledgments. Testosterone metabolism by mouse placenta in vitro

Zusammenfassung 4-C¹⁴-Testosteron wurde durch Mäuseplazenta in vitro zu Steroiden umgesetzt: 3-Hydroxy-5-androstan-3, 17-dion, 3-Hydroxy-5-androstan-3, 17-dion, 4-Androsten-3, 17-dion und 5-Androstan-3, 17-dion. Eine Umsetzung von Testosteron zu Östrogenen wurde nicht nachgewiesen.     

Testosterone induced alterations in histamine metabolism in mice

Zusammenfassung Eine neuer Befund von hormonaler Beeinflussung des Histaminmetabolismus wird beschrieben und ein bisher nicht erkannter Metabolit wird chromatographisch nachgewiessen. Under dem Einfluss von Testosteron wird der Metabolit in grosser Menge in Urin der Maus ausgeschieden, während zugleich freies Histamin fast verschwindet, was dafür spricht, dass es sich um einen Histaminmetaboliten handelt, dessen chemische Struktur noch nicht festgestellt ist und von verschiedenen bekannten Histaminmetaboliten abgegrenzt werden kannte.

Testosterone and eye-brain asymmetry for copulation in chickens

Summary Asymmetry of eye function has been demonstrated in the young chicken. Precocious copulation following intramuscular treatment with testosterone can be elicited by presentation of an appropriate stimulus to the left eye, but not to the right eye.     

Testosterone and methyltestosterone from hyodesoxycholic acid

Zusammenfassung Der Hauptbestandteil der Gallenflüssigkeit des Schweines, Hyodesoxycholsäure, wurde in die männlichen Geschlechtshormone Testosteron und Methyltestosteron überführt. Es wird eine modifizierte Oppenauer-Oxydation beschrieben, bei der Aluminiumoxyd an Stelle des gebräuchlichen Alkoxyd-Katalysators verwendet wird.     

Testosterone derivatives are neuroprotective agents in experimental diabetic neuropathy

In this study we have assessed the effect of testosterone (T), dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and 5αandrostan-3α, 17β-diol (3α-diol) therapies on diabetic neuropathy. Diabetes was induced in adult male rats by the injection of streptozotocin and resulted in decreased T and increased 3α-diol levels in plasma and in decreased levels of pregnenolone and DHT in the sciatic nerve. Moreover, a reduced expression of the enzyme converting Tinto DHT (i.e., the 5α-reductase) also occurs at the level of sciatic nerve, suggesting that the decrease of DHT levels could be due to an impairment of this enzyme. Chronic treatment for 1 month with DHT or 3α-diol increased tail nerve conduction velocity and partially counteracted the increase of thermal threshold induced by diabetes. Treatment with DHT increased tibial Na⁺,K⁺-ATPase activity and the expression of myelin protein P0 in the sciatic nerve.DHT, 3α-diol and T reversed the reduction of intra-epidermal nerve fiber density induced by diabetes. These observations indicate that T metabolites can reverse behavioral, neurophysiological, morphological and biochemical alterations induced by peripheral diabetic neuropathy. I. Roglio, R. Résumé Presque toute la testosterone a été métabolisée dans les incubations avec les homogenates du placenta humain à terme que le cofactor NADPH y ait été ajouté ou non. Mais, les échantillons humains d'une grossesse moins de 24 semaines et aussi les homogenates placentaires du rat à terme et prématuré étaient tous moins actifs dans ce respect.

Testosterone changes the electric organ discharge and external morphology of the mormyrid fish, Gnathonemus petersii (Mormyriformes)

Effects of silastic and pellet methyltestosterone implants on the waveform of the electric organ discharge of the weakly electric African mormyrid, Gnathonemus petersii, were investigated. Within seven days of implantation, the duration of the discharge increased dramatically while the associated peak power frequency of the Fourier spectrum decreased in all treated fish. By day 35, hormone-treated fish exhibited up to five-fold increases in EOD duration, as well as multiple discharges and variations in the shape of the positive phase of the discharge. Testosterone treatment also changed body morphology, making immature and adult female fish resemble adult males.
