The effect of toxin II isolated from sea anemones (Anemonia sulcata) on the isolated guinea pig ileum]

When the guinea-pig isolated ileum is treated with the Toxin II from Anemonia sulcata, it releases not only acetylcholine but also serotonin. These transmitters are both involved in the spasmogenic action of the toxin.

Zusammenfassung An der glatten Darmmuskulatur (Taenia coli) des Meerschweinchens konnten nach völligem Entzug von Kalzium (und Magnesium) aus der Nährlösung über lange Zeit Spikes gemessen werden. Diese kalziumfreien Spikes werden, im Gegensatz zu den Spikes unter normalen Bedingungen, durch Tetrodotoxin 10^–5 blockiert, und sie werden wie die normalen Spikes mit 100fach niedrigerer Schwelle durch Manganionen blockiert. Es wird angenommen, daß Na-Ionen die für diese Spikes verantwortlichen Ladungsträger sind.

Summary From sting extracts ofApis dorsata andA. florea, a substance was isolated which is active in alarm behaviour of both of these species but not ofA. mellifera andA. cerana. The active substance was identified as 2-decen-1-yl-acetate.     

Polymeric collagen isolated from squid (Loligo peallii) connective tissue

Résumé On a isolé du collagène naturel et polymère du tissu du manteau du calmarLoligo peallii par la méthode de Nishihara, les fibres présentant au microscope électronique une périodicité de 680 Å. Le collagène a une composition typique d'amino acides et contient l'hydrate de carbone dans une proportion restreinte; principalement sous forme de glucose et de galactose.     

Effects of benzo(a)pyrene on isolated rat liver mitochondria

Riassunto Viene trattato mitocondri isolati di fegato di ratto con una soluzione acquosa di benzo(a)pyrene. I mitocondri cosi trattati appaiono rigonfi, hanno matrici chiare e notevole aumento degli spazi mannitolo-impermeabili. Queste modificazioni sono verosimilmente dovute all'azione del benzo(a)pyrene sulle molecole fosfolipidiche delle membrane motocondriali.

Prostaglandin A2 (PGA2) increases the coronary vascular resistance in the guinea-pig isolated heart preparation

Summary Prostaglandin A₂ (PGA₂) in concentrations of 1.5·10^–8 to 3·10^–6 M was found to produce concentration-dependent increase in the coronary vascular resistance of the guinea-pig isolated heart without alterations in myocardial contractile force and oxygen consumption.Supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.     

Powerful hepatoprotective and hepatotoxic plant oligostilbenes,isolated from the Oriental medicinal plantVitis coignetiae (Vitaceae)

The methanol extract of the Oriental medicinal plantVitis coignetiae (Vitaceae) showed hepatoprotective activity in the in vitro assay method using primary cultured rat hepatocytes. Activity-guided fractionation of the extract afforded -viniferin as an active principle. The protective effect of -viniferin against mice carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatic injury in mice was shown by serum enzyme assay as well as by pathological examination. In addition to -viniferin, plant oligostilbenes, ampelopsins A, C, F and the mixture of vitisin A andcis-vitisin A were also present in the extract. Among them, ampelopsin C and the mixture of vitisin A andcis-vitisin A were found to be powerful hepatotoxins.     

Effects of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and potassium chloride on the resting potential of the isolated frog nerve

Zusammenfassung Da DMSO da Ruhepotential depolarisiert, verglichen wir seine Wirkung mit der von Kaliumchlorid. Infolge verschieden schneller Depolarisationen und einer jahreszeitlich abhängigen Ruhepotentialänderung durch Kaliumchlorid schliessen wir auf unterschiedliche Wirkungsmechanismen beider Substanzen. DMSO hat ausser einer Kurzzeitwirkung einen länger persistierenden reversiblen Effekt auf die Nervenmembran, der durch nachfolgende kurzwirksame Kaliumchloriddepolarisationen nachgewiesen werden kann.

The effect of quinidinebis-(7-theophylline acetate) on the isolated papillary muscle of the rabbit heart

Zusammenfassung Untersuchungen über die Aktion des Chinidinbis-(7-theophyllin acetat) auf den isolierten Pappilarmuskel beweisen, dass die Substanz die Verlängerung der Repolarisation, der Refraktärphase, als auch der Kontraktionsdauer bewirkt. Amplitude des Ruhe- und Aktionspotentials, Verlauf der Depolarization und die Kontraktionskraft bleiben praktisch unbeeinflusst.     

Effect of prostaglandin E2 (PgE2) on the biosynthesis and metabolism of noradrenaline (NA) in the isolated and perfused rabbit heart]

In isolated perfused rabbit heart, Pg E2 at concentrations ranging from 1.10(-8) to 1.10(-4) M has shown no significant action either on the biosynthesis or on the metabolism of NA. But it inhibited NA uptake, nevertheless this action was weak.
