Experimental studies on the formation of glomerular epithelial cell coat and basement membrane

Résumé Les études faites au microscope électronique sur les reins de rats marqués in vivo à l'argent et colorés in vitro au rouge de ruthenium ont montré qu'une partie de la membrane de base glomérulaire rénale est constituée par les cellules épithéliale viscérales. Cette partie est sécrétée de la même manière et en même temps que la couche cellulaire recouvrant les cellules viscérales et sa coloration est semblable.     

Simultaneous isolation of rabbit glomerular and tubular basement membrane]

A method allowing simultaneous isolation of Rabbit alomerular and tubular basement membranes has been perfected. Rabbit tubular basement membrane has also been obtained by tryptic digestion of the renal cortex. Electron microscopic observation and biochemical analysis show that the contamination of the membrane preparations by cellular components is negligible.     

Variation of thickness of glomerular basement membrane in various experimental circumstances

Zusammenfassung Mehrere Faktoren wurden untersucht, die verantwortlich sind für die Dickenvariabilität der Glomerulisbasalmembran der Rattenniere unter verschiedenen, nicht pathologischen Bedingungen. Durchschnittsdicke und Frequenzverbreitungskurve der Basalmembran ändern sich in Abhängigkeit vom Nierenzustand.     

Evidence of urinary glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antigens excretion in 3 rodents (rat, mouse, and guinea-pig) (author's transl)]

Immunodiffusion technique, with rabbits antibodies against rat glomerular basement membrane (GBM), permits to evidence the presence of GBM antigens into normal urines of 3 rodents (rat, mouse, and guinea-pig). These results confirm the earlier works in human and rabbit urines and show the antigenic communauty existing between the 3 rodents GBM, since we can evidence antigens of 3 different mammals with the same antibody. The origin and the nature of this patterns and the signification of this presence into mammalian urines are discussed.     

Time and theophylline influence on the quantitative variations of the glomerular basement membrane ferritin pathway (author's transl)

A fine quantitative evaluation of ferritin aggregates in rat GBM permits to counts 5.08 +/- 1.51 and 18.30 +/- 3.21 g/cm2, respectively 30 and 60 min after ferritin injection; likewise, 30 min after ferritin administration, 5.08 +/- 1.51 and 17.11 +/- 3.9 g/cm2, respectively in normal and theophylline-treated animals.     

Tubular and glomerular nephropathy induced in rabbits by injection of a heterologous antitubular basement membrane serum]

A nephropathy affecting both tubules and glomeruli has been induced in Rabbits by the injection of an heterologous immune serum directed against Rabbit tubular basement membrane. It differs from experimental antiglomerular basement membrane nephropathy by the fixation of antibodies and C3 on tubular basement membrane and by the occurrence of glucosuria.     

Age-dependent changes of rat liver plasma membrane composition

Summary The chemical composition of liver plasma membrane was studied in Wistar rats aged between 3 and 24 months. Results obtained indicate a significant age-dependent positive correlation of both the protein:phospholipid and cholesterol:phospholipid ratios, whereas the protein:cholesterol ratio seems to remain unaffected. Phospholipid analysis of liver plasma membrane reveals that only the phosphatidylcholine content has a significant negative correlation with age; all other phospholipid species remain basically unchanged.Supported by a grant of the Italian National Research Council, Project Preventive and Rehabilitative Medicine, Subproject Mechanisms of Aging.

Zusammenfassung Der Einfluss von Coffein auf Kontraktion und Membranpotential des Atriums der Ratte ergibt: Verkürzung der Dauer des Aktionspotentials und Beschleunigung der Geschwindigkeit von Repolarisation und Depolarisation. Ein möglicher Zusammenhang dieser Änderungen mit der erhöhten Kontraktilität wird diskutiert.

Observations on the species-nonspecificity of the human renal and placental basement membrane antigens

Zusammenfassung Kaninchenantisera, mit Antikörpern gegen Basalmembranantigene menschlicher Niere und Plazenta, wurden, bei Anwendung der Coonsschen fluoreszierenden Antikörpermethode zur Bestimmung von heterogenen Antigenen in vier anderen Spezies, angewandt. Es wurde nachgewiesen, dass die glomerulären und tubulären Basalmembrane der Meerschweinchen- und Mausniere ein oder mehrere Antigene enthalten, welche mit Antihumannierenserum und Antihumanplazentaserum eine Kreuzreaktion zeigen.

Riassunto Gli Autori hanno dimostrato mediante immunofluorescenza la positività immunologica della parete tubulare del testicolo umano, in un caso di azoospermia. Questo reperto si presta ad interessanti considerazioni riguardo al ruolo svolto dalla membrana basale della parete tubulare nelle malattie autoimmunologiche del testicolo.

Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, dass die gelösten Eiweisskörper bei Abwesenheit von Regulierungssubstanzen ein netzförmiges Gel bilden. Dieses enthält Fibrillen ohne periodische Struktur und nadelartige «Tactoïde» mit typischer Periodizität.     

Pressure acclimation of the eel and liver membrane composition

Homeoviscous adaptation of membrane fluidity is known to exist in fish living at great depths. Is this adaptation also present in fish living near the surface but experimentally acclimated to high pressure? The composition of mitochondria-rich fractions extracted from the livers of eels acclimated for 15 days at 101 ATA was determined. The results show that pressure induced a significant increase (+100%) of total phospholipids (PL) and cholesterol without a change in their ratio. The increase of PL content was accompanied by a decrease in phosphatidylcholine in favour of phosphatidyl ethanolamine which, due to its preference for the H₁₁ form, is able to compensate for the loss in fluidity induced by pressure.     

Effect of dicumarol on rat liver slice glycoprotein synthesis

Résumé Dans les tranches de foie, le dicumarol et la warfarine empêchent la glycosamine¹⁴C de s'incorporer aux glycoprotéines. Cette inhibition dépend de la dose employée. La glucosamine-¹⁴C a été incorporée par des glycoprotéines et des glycolipides et elle se produisit au cours d'expériences d'une durée de 21/2 h. L'inhibition par le Dicumarol de l'incorporation de la glucosamine par les glycoprotéines et les glycolipides dans des tranches de foie n'a pas pu être expliquée par un effet de l'anticoagulant sur le métabolisme de la glucosamine en composés solubles dans les acides et adsorbés par le charbon de bois.     

Effects of inflammatory mediators on the glomerular localization of intravenously administered ferritins

Summary Effects of inflammatory mediators such as serotonin, histamine, and bradykinin upon glomerular localization of i.v. administered ferritins have been investigated. These mediators appear to enhance accumulation of the i.v. injected ferritins in the glomerular capillary walls of rats.
