Low i.v. doses of cadmium chloride (15 micrograms Cd) given to pullets resulted in a significant reduction in urine flow (UF), glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and effective renal plasma flow (ERPF). However, in hens treated with the heavy metal chelate FeNa EDTA prior to cadmium treatment no oliguria or reduction in GFR or ERPF was observed. It is suggested that the renal changes following the i.v. administration of cadmium to diuretic hens and alleviated in hens primed with the heavy metal chelate may result from changes in glomerular hemodynamics.  相似文献

The inhibitory effects of pargyline and quipazine on chicken growth hormone secretion were overcome by passive immunoneutralization of endogenous somatostatin (SRIF)-14 or SRIF-28(1-14)-like immunoreactivity. Administration of the specific antisera to control birds pretreated with 0.9% NaCl elevated the basal plasma GH concentrations. These results suggest that peptides with SRIF-14 or SRIF-28(1-14)-like immunoreactivity tonically inhibit GH secretion and are at least partially responsible for the inhibitory effects of pargyline and quipazine on GH release in immature domestic fowl.  相似文献

Summary Air and blood capillaries of the lung of the domestic fowl constitute the functional gas exchange units. They anastomose profusely and interlace with each other in 3 dimensions. Summary The administration of monosodium glutamate (MSG) at a dose of 4 g/kg in 5-day-old fowl or 5 daily injections of MSG (total dose 20 g/kg) in 1- to 5-day-old fowl did not affect body growth in either male or female domestic fowl. Neither MSG treatment schedule affected either testis weight or the circulating concentration of luteinizing hormone (LH). A small, but significant decrease in the plasma concentration of growth hormone (GH) was observed in female chicks which had received daily MSG injections.Acknowledgments. Mitosis is the most potentially dangerous event in the life of a cell, during which the cell genetic identity is transmitted to daughters; errors at this stage may yield aneuploid cells that can initiate a genetically unstable clone. The small GTPase Ran is the central element of a conserved signaling network that has a prominent role in mitotic regulation. Pioneering studies with amphibian oocytes indicated that Ran, in the GTP-bound form, activates factors that regulate spindle assembly and dynamics. An increasing body of data indicate higher specificity and complexity in mitotic control operated by Ran in somatic cells. Newly identified target factors of Ran operate with different specificity, and it is emerging that mitotic progression requires the precise positioning of Ran network components and effectors at specific sites of the mitotic apparatus according to a highly regulated schedule in space and time. In this review we summarize our current understanding of Ran control of mitosis and highlight the specificity of mechanisms operating in mammalian somatic cells. M. Ciciarello, R.
