Microdetermination of magnesium and calcium in animal tissue

Zusammenfassung Eine Methode zur Bestimmung von 10–40 µg Mg und 5–15 µg Ca in etwa 150 mg Tiergeweben wird beschrieben. Nach Trennung auf Dowex 50-X8 wird Mg mit Komplexon III und Ca mit Na-naphthalohydroxamat bestimmt.     

Enzymic oxidation of aminoketones in mammalian blood plasma

Zusammenfassung Rinderserum oxydiert Aminoaceton rasch und-Aminolävulinsäure langsam, Reaktionen, die wahrscheinlich von der Sperminoxydase katalysiert werden. Aminoketone werden jedoch nicht im Plasma aller Tierarten oxydiert, welche Spermin oxydieren. Plasma von Tierarten, in denen Benzylaminoxydase vorkommt, oxydieren in der Regel ebenfalls Aminoaceton. Eine Ausnahme: Die Benzylaminoxydase des Schweines greift die beiden Aminoketone nicht merklich an.     

Effects of X-irradiation on ribonucleases in blood plasma

Zusammenfassung Unter Bestrahlung wurde die RNAse-Aktivität im Blut untersucht. Es zeigte sich, dass Bestrahlung des Kopfes allein zu einer starken Erhöhung der alkalischen RNAse im Serum führt.     

Down's syndrome: changes in protein fractions of blood plasma

Summary A statistically significant decrease of prealbumin and statistically significant increases of alpha₂-macroglobulin and IgA were found in blood plasma of patients with Down's syndrome using quantitative crossed immunoelectrophoresis.We are indebted to Prof. T.C. Renin releasing activity of a blood plasma fraction

Résumé L'activité de la rénine de coupes de reins de rats et celle de la rénine libérée par elles pendant une incubation de 2 heures ont été mesurées. Les coupes témoins ont libéré 22% de leur contenu original. Après adjonction d'albumine sérique, la quantité de rénine libérée était de 49%.     

Suppression of mitogen- and antigen-induced lymphocyte proliferation by lanthanides

Lanthanide ions (Ln3+) inhibited the proliferative response of human lymphocytes to various polyclonal mitogens and the 'purified protein derivative' (PPD) of the tuberculin antigen. Of the four Ln3+ ions tested lanthanum (La3+) was the strongest inhibitor; erbium (Er3+) and lutetium (Lu3+) were only weakly active, while samarium (Sm3+) had intermediate potency. At a concentration of 1 mM, La3+ almost completely inhibited the uptake of [3H]-thymidine by lymphocytes exposed to mitogenic agents. Trypan blue exclusion tests confirmed that the La3+ ions were not toxic. These findings may bear upon the reported anti-inflammatory properties of the lanthanides.     

The interaction of protamine with human blood plasma proteins

Zusammenfassung Es wurden Interaktionen von Protamin mit vorher in Agar-Gel elektrophoretisch getrennten plasmatischen Eiweisskörpern untersucht. Neben der schon früher bekannten Interaktion mit Fibrinogen wurden auch solche mit beiden Klassen der plasmatischen Lipoproteine gefunden.     

The effect of ACTH on cholinesterase activity in plasma,whole blood,and blood cells of rats

Résumé On a déterminé chez des rats l'activité cholinestérasique dans le plasma, sang total et cellules sanguines avant et après l'administration d'ACTH. On a constaté une augmentation hautement significative:P: 0,001 après l'administration de cette hormone.     

The relation between the bicarbonate concentration in blood plasma and in brain tissue

Zusammenfassung Die Frage des passiven Transportes von HCO ₃ ^– - und H⁺-Ionen zwischen Blutplasma und Gehirngewebe wurde untersucht. Die Blutkonzentration dieser Ionen wurde durch intraperitoneale Injektionen variiert und der Gesamt-CO₂-Gehalt des Gehirngewebes nach 1–12 h bestimmt. Es ergab sich keine signifikante Änderung im Gesamt-CO₂-Gehalt des Gewebes, obwohl der Standardbikarbonatgehalt des Blutes mit 10–13 mE/l verändert wurde.     

Erythrocyte catechol-0-methyltransferase and plasma dopamine-beta-hydroxylase in human umbilical cord blood

Plasma dopamine-beta-hydroxylase enzymatic activity and immunoreactive protein levels in human umbilical cord blood are only about 2% as great as values in the blood of older subjects. Erythrocyte catechol-0-methyltransferase activity levels in umbilical cord blood are very similar to those in the blood of adult subjects.
