Immunohistochemical demonstration of corticotrophic cells concentrated in the rostral zone of the pars intermedia of the mouse hypophysis

Résumé La nature corticotrope des cellules constituant la partie rostrale de la pars intermedia de l'hypophyse de souris est établie par la microscopie électronique et la cytoimmunofluorescence. Cette zone réagit positivement avec les anticorps anti-ACTH et négativement avec les anticorps anti-MSH.     

Effect of interrupting retino-hypothalamic connections on the melanophore response inXenopus laevis

Résumé On a estimé possible que les axones rétinohypothalamiques décrits chez certains amphibiens jouent un rôle dans le contrôle neuro-endocrinien de la pars intermedia de l'hypophyse. Mais si on sectionne chez desXenopus cette voie supposée, ces animaux peuvent néanmoins modifier la couleur de leur peau lorsqu'on les place sur les terrains différents. Il n'est donc pas vraisemblable que ces connections fassent partie d'un arc réflexe contrôlant la sécrétion de l'hormone mélanotrophique.     

Immunohistochemical individualization of adenohypophyseal thyrotropic cells in the monkey Macaca irus, using a human anti-beta-TSH antibody

Using the indirect immunofluorescence technique and an antiserum against the specific beta subunit of human TSH, selective immunocytochemical staining was localized in a cell population of the pars distalis of the monkey Macaca irus. These thyrotropic cells, which were positive to aldehyde fuchsin, Alcian blue, and PAS, were localized on the one hand in the ventro-medial zone of the pars distalis, especially alongside the large vessels of this region, and on the other in the zona tuberalis, i. e. at the bottom of the pars tuberalis. Some cells, sparsely distributed, were seen in the posterior part of the lateral lobes of the pars distalis, in the vicinity of the pars intermedia. No thyrotropic cells were encountered in pars tuberalis. Pars intermedia and posterior lobe contained no cells immunoreactive to beta-hTSH. In females, the thyrotropic cells were more numerous and larger than in males. Generally the thyrotropic cells were round or oval in shape, sometimes they were polygonal.

The lead-haematoxylin positive cells (PbH+) of the rostral pars distalis react with antibodies anti-1-24 ACTH and anti-17-39 ACTH; the pars intermedia (PI) is composed of two cell categories, but only one is revealed with cyto-immunological techniques and contains ACTH and alpha-MSH in several Salmonid species.     

Age-and sex-related development of ACTH in the pars distalis and neurointermedia of rat pituitary]

The content of ACTH of the pars distalis and neurointermedia of the pituitary of adult Rats is higher in the male than in the female. This differenciation of content, according to sex, appears at puberty at the site of pars distalis; it only appears around the 60th day of life at the site of the pars intermedia. The androgens seem to be responsible for the higher percentages observed in the males.     

Cytoimmunological study of the corticotrophic and corticomelanotrophic cells in the adenohypophysis of Boops salpa L. (marine teleost) in different experimental conditions (variation of salinity and of background color)]

The cytoimmunological study of the adenohypophysis of Boops salpa (marine Teleost), in different experimental conditions confirmed that the MacConaill's hematoxyline-positive cells contain: 1. ACTH (Corticotrophic Hormone) in the pars distalis, 2. MSH (Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone) and ACTH in the pars intermedia.     

Localization of a new neuroleptic in the pituitary gland of the rat

summary The¹⁴C-labelled, substituted benzamide neuroleptic Tiapride has been found to accumulate transiently in the pituitary gland of the rat following a single dose, and a prolonged retention of the drug was observed in the pars intermedia.     

Relationship between the pars intermedia and the pars nervosa in the hypophysis of an antarctic seal

Resumen La pars intermedia de la hipófisis de la foca de Weddell (Leptonychotes weddelli) presenta trabéculas que irrumpen en la Pars nervosa. En estas trabéculas epiteliales se encuentran grumos y fibras de materialGömöri positivo. Este material no fué hallado en ninguna otra región de la adenohipófisis.

Immunocytochemistry of pituitary corticotroph cells in terrestrial turtle (Testudo mauritanica)]

The immunocytochemical and histochemical characters of the corticotroph cells of the Turtle adenohypophysis have been studied. These cells are localised in the rostral part of the gland and are revealed by Is anti ACTH (1-24) and (17-39). They are also colored with lead hematoxyline and PAS-Orange G. The corticotroph nature of these cells is confirmed by the study of their modifications after treatment with amphenone and ACTH. The Is anti ACTH also reveal most of the cells of the pars intermedia; while the Is anti beta-MSH reveals only these cells and some scatter cells of the pars distalis.     

Antidiuretic hormone involvement in the release of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone by hyperosmotic stimuli

In the normal Wistar rat, the plasma alpha-MSH level was raised by hypertonic saline injection (as compared with control rats injected with isotonic saline). No such rise in alpha-MSH followed hypertonic saline administration in the Brattleboro (hereditary diabetes insipidus) animal (compared to isotonic saline injected controls). It is suggested that, in the rat, endogenous antidiuretic hormone is involved in the secretory response of the pars intermedia to osmotic stimuli.     

Luteinizing hormone content of the pars tuberalis of the hypophysis of neonatally androgenized female rats

Summary The immunoreactive LH content of the pars tuberalis of neonatally androgenized female rats was studied and found to be significantly lower than that of control females at oestrus or of control males. It is concluded that the rat pars tuberalis does secrete LH and that this secretory activity is diminished by neonatal androgenization in a manner that differs from that reported for the LH secretion in the pars distalis.This investigation received financial support from Direccion de Investigacion, grants RMS-80-13 and S-80-26, Universidad Austral de Chile.     

In vitro biosynthesis of beta-lipotropin in brain tissue]

We have recently developed methods to identify biosynthetized beta-endorphin and beta-lipotropin (beta-LPH) following incubation of Rat pars intermedia with radioactive amino acids. We used the same approach for rat brain tissue. In the striatum we found a peptide similar to beta-LPH while its identification in hypothalamus was less positive. This is the first demonstration of such biosynthesis and it could well be an important step in determining the biosynthetic patterns of cerebral endorphins and enkephalins.

Nucleolar changes in spinal ganglion neurons during the course of axon regeneration

Résumé L'écrasement du nerf sciatique du rat modifie de plusieurs manières les nucléoles des neurones ganglionnaires rachidiens correspondants. Tandis que le volume de la pars amorpha augmente considérablement, le filament nucléolaire ou nucleolonema s'allonge, sa disposition est plus lâche, et sa coloration devient moins évidente. Ce processus atteint son maximum 15 jours après le résection du nerf et il est négligeable 60 jours plus tard. Les changements du nucleolonema et de la pars amorpha pourraient être en rapport avec la synthèse cytoplasmatique.

Variations in the Golgi complex of mouse somatotrops at different times in a 24-hour period

Resumen El aparato de Golgi de las células somatotropas de la pars distalis de la hipofisis del ratón, presenta importantes diferencias ultraestructurales en distintos momentos de un período de 24 horas. Es pequeño a mediodia y marcadamente hipertrófico a mediodía y 6 de la tarde.

Résumé Nous avons étudié l'effet d'une l'illumination continue ou d'une obscurité de 7 jours sur le système hypothalamique neurosécréteur (HNS) du lézard des jardinsCalotes versicolor. L'illumination a stimulé le HNS par activation de la synthèse, du transport et de la libération de la neurohormone(s) tandis que l'obscurité a fait diminuer la quantité libérée de neurohormone de la pars nervosa.     

Variations in the Golgi complex of mouse prolactin cells at different times in a circadian period

Resumen El aparato de Golgi de las células a prolactin de la pars distalis de la hipofisis del ratón, presenta un desarrollo variable en distintos momentos de un período circadiano. Está muy desarrollado y contiene numerosos gránulos en formación en animales sacrificados al mediodía, mientras que está muy poco desarrollado en los animales sacrificados a la medianoche.

Histochemistry of the cytoplasmic droplet in the mammalian spermatozoon

Résumé Chez le bouc, le mouton et le buffle, la gouttelette cytoplasmique du spermatozoïde précoce contient des inclusions cytoplasmiques de différents genres: (1) des bâtonnets et granules sudanophiles constitués pars des phospholipides et des protéides, (2) un ou deux corps sudanophobes constitués par de l'acide ribonucléique et des protéides, et (3) des granules mitochondriés constitués par des lipoprotéides.     

The adenohypophysial hormone content of the rat pars tuberalis

Summary The pars tuberalis of the hypophysis was shown to contain LH, which increases after castration, TSH and a very low amount of PRL. Biparitate nature of the pituitary gland inAcridotheres tristis,linneaus

Résumé Les oiseaux femelles possèdent une glande pituitaire plus grande que celle des mâles. La glande est couverte entièrement par les couvertures meningées. Deux types d'aciophiles, un basophile violet et PAS positif, et puis une cellule chromophobe ont été observés. Les lobes céphaliques et la caudale sont separés par un toron de tissu connectif, d'un caractère inconnu jusqu'ici dans la biparitate de la glande pituitaire des oiseaux. Les secretions colloidales de caractère basique sont nombreux dans la pars glangularis et dans la zona tuberalis.
