Functions of nuclear bodies as revealed by ultrastructural autoradiography and cytochemistry

Summary The simple nuclear body containing a few RNA particles appears through the nuclear pores in the cytoplasm, originating from the nucleolus. The complex nuclear body consisting mainly of RNA components is highly active in the incorporation of RNA precursors. Accordingly, the appearance of nuclear bodies may be related either to transport to the cytoplasm of nucleolar components or to the enhancement of rRNA synthesis.

Tissue- and stage-specific RNA patterns in Drosophila as revealed by gradient formamide gel electrophoresis

The in vitro labeled RNAs in the accessory glands from male adults, and in the salivary glands and fat body from developing larvae of Drosophila melanogaster were separated on linear gradient acrylamide gels in formamide. The patterns appear to be tissue- and stage-specific, and several lines of evidence indicate that the visualized radioactive bands include both hnRNA and messages.

Ultrastructure of the salivary gland chromosome as revealed by electron microscopy

Zusammenfassung An ultradünnen Schnittpr?paraten von Speicheldrüsenchromosomen (Drosophila melanogaster) und an entsprechenden Quetschpr?paraten (Drosophila virilis) wurde elektronenmikroskopisch festgestellt: Die Chromomeren und Chromonemata bestehen aus Filamenten mit Schraubenwindungen vom ?paran?mischen? Typus. Es ist wahrscheinlich, dass die Windungen der beiden Filamente in der entgegengesetzten Richtung ranken.

Properties and functional differentiation of interneurons in the ventral horn of the cat's lumbar cord as revealed by intracellular recording

Zusammenfassung Mit intrazellulären Elektroden wurden an der Katze die Funktionen der Zwischenneuronen im Vorderhorn des 7. Lumbalsegments des Rückenmarks untersucht und ihre elektrischen Eigenschaften kurz erwähnt. Auf Grund ihrer Reaktion auf adäquate afferente Reizung konnten die einzelnen Neuronen klassifiziert werden; sowohl Erregungs- wie Hemmungsprozesse — wie sie als Frequenzänderungen der Aktionspotentiale zum Ausdruck kommen — wurden demonstriert. Einige bei chemischen Milieuveränderungen bewirkte Effekte wurden auch studiert.     

Frequency and distribution of tubulo-filamentous nuclear inclusions in the celiac ganglion of the cat as revealed by serial sections.

On sections at random of a cat celiac ganglion we counted 68 sections of nuclear inclusions (NI) for 320 sections of neuronal nuclei, i.e. an "apparent' frequency of 0.20. As revealed by serial sections the "actual' frequency is higher since the 5 nuclei entirely explored exhibit 19 NI. Such a study shows that each nucleus may contain at least 3 and up to 5 different tubulo-filamentous NI.
