Mucosal vasculature after truncal vagotomy

Zusammenfassung Der Einfluss der trunkulären Vagotomie wurde an der gastrischen Mukosa von Hunden elektronenmikroskopisch untersucht. Dabei kommt es zu einer sehr deutlichen Verengung der Kapillaren mit Abweichungen der Endothelzelle von der Normalstruktur. Der ischämische Effekt der Vagotomie setzt sofort ein und ist nach 4 Wochen fast vollständig aufgehoben.     

Growth hormone release after hepatectomy

Resumen El plasma de ratones hepatectomizados, recogido a la medianoche del segundo día de la regeneración, estimula, al igual que la hormona de crecimiento pura, la síntesis de ADN de los hepatocitos y células litorales del hígado del ratón adulto intacto. Este efecto no se observa con el plasma de ratones intactos sacrificados a medianoche ni con solución fisiológica. Se sugiere que el factor estimulante del plasma de ratones hepatectomizados en hormona de crecimiento.

Neuroglobin,seven years after

Neuroglobin is expressed in vertebrates brain and belongs to a branch of the globin family that diverged early in evolution. Sequence conservation suggests a relevant role in the nervous system, with tight structural restraints. Experiments in vivo and in vitro showed increased hypoxic stress damage upon repressing neuroglobin biosynthesis and improved recovery following overexpression. Neuroglobin shows internal heme hexacoordination, which controls oxygen affinity and kinetics. Neuroglobin concentration, oxygen affinity and enhanced autooxidation question a role in oxygen delivery; thus it was proposed that the neuroprotective effect might be due to radical scavenging or activation of protection mechanisms. Neuroglobin's structure shows a peculiar internal cavity of very large size. Binding of heme ligands is associated to a conformational change involving the heme that "slides" into the pre-existing cavity and makes the sixth coordination position available. These features may pave the way to an understanding of neuroprotection by neuroglobin.     

Nephrocalcinosis in rats after forced weaning

Zusammenfassung Nach dem Abstillen wurde bei Rattenmüttern eine ziemlich schnell sich entwickelnde Nephrocalcinosis festgestellt, die hauptsächlich den Cortex corticis betraf. Bei der biochemischen Analyse der Nieren (Calcium, Phosphor und Zitronensäure) wurde eine gute Korrelation der biochemischen und morphologischen Veränderungen gefunden. Der Zitronensäuregehalt war aber auch in den intakten Nieren erhöht.

Summary Male rats were run downhill for 90 minutes (nonexhaustive). Following the exercise, muscle protein degradation was increased, as determined by urinary 3-methylhistidine. However, minimal changes were observed in the relative percentage of the minor myofibrillar proteins and in the protease calcium activated factor in the long head of the triceps brachii muscle (eccentrically exercised) following the exercise bout.

Microsomal phospholipid biosynthesis after phenobarbital administration

Résumé Après administration de phénobarbital chez le rat le renouvellement des phospholipides microsomiaux étudiés par double marquage¹⁴C-³²P n'est pas augmenté alors que celui des phospholipides plasmatiques est ralenti. L'hypertrophie des membranes endoplasmiques n'est pas le résultat d'une augmentation de leur biosynthèse et semble être la conséquence d'un ralentissement du catabolisme.

Enhancement of serum FSH levels after pinealectomy

Summary The effect of pinealectomy on the circadian periodicity in serum gonadotropins was investigated in adult male rats. Pinealectomy resulted in an elevation of the serum FSH concentration 7 days after the operation. A 4-fold increase in serum FSH over 24 h with no concommitant increase in serum LH following pinealectomy suggests that the control of FSH secretion could be mediated via the pineal gland.     

Hydrolysis of DHEA sulphate after oral application

Zusammenfassung Nach oraler Gabe von 4-¹⁴C-DHEA und Na-7-³H-DHEA-sulfat liessen sich mittels einer Duodenalsonde 91 ml Duodenalsaft innerhalb von 45 min gewinnen, aus denen man u.a.³H-markierte, freie 17-Ketosteroide isolierte. Anhand der Ausbeute an 4-¹⁴C-DHEA konnte eine zumindest 10% betragende Hydrolyse verabreichten DHEA-sulfats nachgewiesen werden.
