Hungarian Prime Minister Gives Speech on ＂Tradition and Progress＂

Visiting Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany gave a speech on ＂Tradition and Progress＂ at Tsinghua on September 9, 2005. Prior to the speech, Tsinghua President Gu Binglin met with Prime Minister Gyurcsany and gave a brief outline of the university＇s history, faculty, and students. Finland＇s Deputy Prime Minister Delivers Speech

Finland＇s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Jyrki Katainen visited Tsinghua and delivered a speech entitled ＂The Future Challenges of the European Union＂ on January 17, 2008. The Chinese Society of Micro-Nanotechnology (CSMNT) was founded at Tsinghua University on April 5, 2005. Professor Jun Murai Appointed Guest Professor of Tsinghua

Professor Jun Murai, distinguished IT expert in Japan and Vice President of Keio University, was appointed Tsinghua Guest Professor on December 10, 2007. Tsinghua Deputy Vice President He Jiankun attended the conferral ceremony and presented the honorary appointment book to Professor Jun Murai. 2008 Graduate Student Spring Commencement Ceremony

Tsinghua University＇s 2008 Spring Graduate Commencement Ceremony was held in Tsinghua＇s Auditorium on the morning of January 21st, 2008. More than 1000 graduate students received degrees. Among them, 356 were awarded doctorates and 1185 master＇s degrees. President of Tsinghua and Chairman of the Degree Conferral Com- mittee Gu Binglin, Chen Xi, Chairman of the University Council, as well as other officers of Tsinghua University attended the ceremony and awarded diplomas to the students. President Gu delivered a speech at the ceremony. On behalf of the University, he extended warmest congratulations to the seated graduates and commended them for their hard work and contributions to the development of the academic atmosphere at Tsinghua.     

CEO of Australian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee Visits Tsinghua

Mr. John Mullarvey, Chief Executive Officer of Australian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee (AVCC), visitedTsinghua on August 24. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin met and had a friendly talk with Mr. Mullarvey. During their talks, President Gu and Mr. Mullarvey exchanged ideas on students, fund raising, and so on. A collaborative agreement was recently signed between Tsinghua and the Boeing Company.
